Ok,i'll start it this year, always the eternal optimist,i believe we'll finnish in the top six,but then i think that every year, any lower and curbs will be looking for a new job,i think we have the players to push on but the injuries always seem to bite us in the deaf and dum, anyway, cant wait to start the season and to slagging all the team as the season progresses(you know we will) COME ON YOU IRONS!!

Finnish is such an awkward language to learn too!
I'm going for 12th.

I have mostly a English and Scottish heritage. Don't think I have any Finnish ancestry.
Still, I hope for a top 8 finish but expect a 12-14 finish.

Used to go out with a Finn. Not only was she beautiful, but spoke seven languages. She is now professor of linguistics at university. I also knew a very strange chap (again Finnish) who was cursed with the name of Yoohah! Last time I predicted the sort of finish we could expect this season we got relegated, so I'm keeping my trap shut this time.

Consider yourselves well and truly pedanted.
I am torn on predicting our season ahead. On the one hand we look improved with players back and the team starting to gel together.
On the other hand we seem to have little in the way of creativity up front and I can see our attack suffering from this in a similar way to how we did last season. AC needs to infuse an attacking strategy to make best use of the players we have.
Also other teams below us have strengthened their squads significantly. Sunderland have signed about three Spurs players plus Diouf from Bolton. Fulham will probably finalise Andy Johnson's move for £11m and are also looking to sign Gomez for £15m (funny how the press don't give them any stick for this BTW). Spurs are losing alot of players but also signing quite a few. The newly promoted sides have signed a few proven EPL players.
Teams that finished above us, however, are having slightly less success. Blackburn have lost Hughes, Friedel and probably Bentley. I think they will suffer a bit. Everton have lost their CEO and also claim that they need another 5-6 players due to competing in the UEFA Cup next season. Man City have signed a few big players and have more to come but a new manager's first season is always an uncertain one, as we found out.
Villa look like they will be losing Barry but have signed Friedel and Sidwell, so not much movement from them. Pompey have signed Crouch but lost Muntari. These two clubs have made a similar number of transfers to us.
So with clubs below us strengthening and clubs above us seemingly not needing to I could be pessimistic about the coming season. But I think we can easily put three clubs below us so relegation shouldn't be a worry.
I predict we will finish in the third quarter of the table, or maybe even the dizzy heights of 10th again!!

That's it then. 10th it is. Probably wont need to watch any games this season now. Should have more time for travel/golf/the wife. At least she will be fed up as well!

I think our aspiration should be a european slot, and I think we are well able to achieve that.
Look at Pompey last season. We can do that. We are of that standard.
We need a run of fortune with injuries. A decent start to the season so that come Christmas we are top half. From then on in anything can happen.
I fancy us having to beat Man Ure toward the end of the season for a UEFA slot, The Lord Ferg complaining that we only try hard against them, scrapping out a hard earned victory sealled by an ubergoal of West Ham standards by young Freddie Sears who has a break through season and instantly raises the attention of Real/AC/Bayern/Portsmouth, which coincidently hands the title to *insert name here.
I think we should aim for Europe and we can get there.
6/7th spot.

I think beneath the complaints SAF has a secret admiration for West Ham.

i'm still too young and naive to settle for middle third. i'm saying CL spot...and by CL spot i mean somewhere in the meaty part of the bell curve.

After not being deducted points for obvious breaking of the rules with the whole Tevez affair I'm hoping what you deserve.

Kippers, do us all a favour and don't start all this off again. Not unless you have seriously done your homework on this matter and can prove, with the backing of the PL rulebook and any precedents set by the PL, that a points deduction was the correct punishment. So far everyone, including Sheff Utd, have failed to do this.
I agree with the latter part of your comments though. After the disgraceful way our clubs good name was needlessly and shamelessly dragged through the mud I hope we get what we deserve too. A top four finish!!

I'd like to ask just one question.
Is there a team in the league which, on our day, we cannot beat?
Recent seasons have seen us do the double over Man Ure, the double over teh Arse.
When we are at the game, I don't think there is any team we cannot turn over. So with a run of fortune and some inspiring management, who is to say we cannot gain a European spot?
(I know, I know, it is the same symptoms of mindless optimism leading to a crescendo of dashed hopes and failled dreams later in the season, but them's the rules people, that is what we do. And we are better than any other team in the league at it. Is there any team in the league which displays mindless optimism with more style and panache than us? Is there?)

Apparently we are the only team to do both of these in one season throughout the history of the Premiership.

Spurms. No scratch that...I forgot about the style and panache part. :p

Not only does this remind me of my emotional approach to every season, it strangely reminds me of a song. How did it go? dum de dumde dumde dumde something something in the air. They fly so high nearly reach the sky....
Can anyone remember how the rest goes?
