Good to hear but not that surprising really: I expect the same from every sports medium in Vancouver and Canad, really.

And as soon as I thought of all that, I realized just HOW different Canada is from the US. I never realized just HOW good we have it in Canada as sports fans. I always see the MLS fans get frustrated with the derision with which so much of the American sports media treats soccer: Jim Rome, etc.

I mean, I grew up with Graham Leggat Soccer Saturdays, getting up at 6:30am PST every Saturday so I could watch Yeboah pot another wundergoal, and hear Leggat mispronounce all the Dutch and Portuguese clob team names. I grew up watching the 86ers and then Whitecaps. I never had to subscribe to a satellite package or hop on the internet to get great soccer coverage.

True, not every Canadian likes soccer, but they don't hold it in derision. I am glad to think of the type of reception an MLS club will receieve Vancouver (and Montreal too, once Vancouver ets theirs first!)

Imagine bveing a SOunders fan, getting a team, then having to wade through the ambivalence of their local and national media. Good for them about the deal with KING though. I'd have guessed the KOMO would gun for the rights (KOMO being an ABC affiliate and all...)

I still remember the theme song and that Scottish accent waking me up when my dad would crank the volume at that hour. 24hr. soccer cable isn't so bad now though :D. Plus, the Euro and World Cup announcers always give Canada an extra special hello when they say hello to all the English language broadcast receivers internationally, because I think we supported the games through thick and thin.

King used to cover Sonics games, and I'm not sure if they still carry Mariners games, I think they do. I think they might just have a trained sports coverage team compared to KOMO who might not have so much money invested in equipment and personnelle to provide great coverage of a game (You'd be surprised, I've seen Ecuadorean and El Salvador league games with better coverage, angles and presentation consistently compared to what I saw from CBC and the Canadian Cup).

Finally, that's what I enjoy about Canada. We just don't watch each other's sports if we don't like it. I can't make comments or opinions on basketball, ice hockey, NFL football simply because I don't have a lot of experience of knowing what makes a game fun or exciting, hell people watch golf, theres just that jock-talk market out there that needs to take shots and sports it doesn't grasp because they wouldn't have half a brain to imagine how to conceive some of the systems soccer has (had to make a dig at American radio, I'm sorry).
