I thought the 20s were supposed to tour Europe sometime this month.
Anyone know if this is still on and, if so, when do they leave and, of course, any word on the players that are being called in?

The U-20's leave for Spain on Monday, August 19th. They return on August 30th. They are playing in a tournament that includes teams from Spain, Brazil, and Portugal. I think EJ is going but I am working on finding out the list of players.

Bethlehem, thanks for the info.
Regarding EJ, and for that matter, Jordan Stone, the Burn have 3 games in 5 days beginning Sept. 1 in Denver and I read on 3rd Degree where Jeffries said he planned on using he entire roster during that time because he didn't want players having to play all 3 games.
With that in mind, will the 2 Burn players not go on this trip to make sure they are rested and healthy for this crucial stretch of games for Dallas?
Thanks again for the info.

It is my understanding that EJ and Stone will be going to Spain and return prior to the three games in September. I believe the logic is that neither would see much action between Aug. 19-30 and both can use some game time.
On another note, I think David Johnson will be on the squad in Spain also. I am still working on finding out a more complete list though the usual suspects will be going -- Cronin, Clark, Marshall, Cochrane, Mapp, etc. I do not know if Convey or Barclay are going.

No Whitbred or Simek, but Palomares resurfaces.
Both Ed and David Johnson are there, too.
A surprising number of MLS players are there, IMO.

Some of these college coaches have to love this -- they're going to be missing their biggest players right at the season starts.
Indiana will be without Ambersley & Grabavoy for preseason games with Kentucky & Virginia and games that count against Rutgers and possibly even Clemson (on 31st).
Michigan will be without Cameron in two preseason games (Akron & Notre Dame).
Furman will be without Clark and Simo for their preseason game against Coastal Carolina and for a game that not only counts, but is a conference game vs. The Citadel.
Maryland will be without Lancos against Ohio State (preseason) and regular season game against Rhode Island.
They'll also be missing at the end of the season too -- the WC Qualifying falls right in the middle of the conference tournaments for most of these teams Nov 13-17.

They have Ricardo Clark listed as 5-10, 140. Is he really only 140 pounds?

I think this is Capano's first call-in to the 20's after being on the U18's this year??

Harvey, Magee, Marshall and Willams are all listed with local club teams versus MLS, NCAA or foreign clubs? Perhaps that is dated or they are still looking at options?
Does anyone have an update on their plans for the fall?

Harvey is going to UCLA, Marshall to Stanford and Williams to North Carolina. Magee is allegedly on trial with some clubs in Holland but I've heard nothing official.

I e-mailed USSoccer.com regarding any news on Magee and they responded by saying that he has been on trial with several European clubs, which is already known, but hasn't yet signed with anyone.

I found the official site for the upcoming U-20 tournament in Spain. You can click next to the Spanish flag and then USA flag to see our roster. COTIF's roster includes Zak Whitbread and Franklin Simek in addition to the players listed in the USSF release. They also list Mike Magee's club as Ajax.
Whitbread was subbed in to play alongside Jamie Carragher for the Liverpool Reserves in their opener against Bolton on Monday. The Pool Reserves next game is the 29th against Bradford City. So, Zak should be available to play in all three group games (fingers crossed that he shows up in Spain).
In other news, Van Gaal convinced Brazil (our opening opponent) to not select Thiago Motta for their U-20 team.

Good news.

Very Interesting.
In an earlier thread I totally spaced about Magee and left him off a prospective 18-man roster in favor of Mike Ambersley. With all respect to Indiana, if Magee is playing for Ajax's developmental system, do you think Dutch-born Thomas Rongen is gonna pass him up for a kid from IU?

That an 18-year old is playing for the reserves is a very good sign of the kid's ability and progress. And, I'm sure Rongen is thrilled to get a look at him in some games and for him to be able to play with his U20 teammates for the first time (besides Grabavoy, who was on the U23 tour of England when Whitbred made his US debut).
Nice find, davide.

IMO, it's a very good sign that Whitbread is (tentatively) joining the US at the U-20 level. It shows that he isn't arrogant about his game. Back when Owen Hargreaves was 18, he refused to even train with Canada's U-20's. (As a result, he was disinvited from Canada's senior team camp, and the rest is history.)
