First order of business is to establish the draft order.

Request all Small Rocks managers send me a PM with a 4-digit number from 0000 to 9999. I will send an email to all the Small Rocks Managers today with my 4-digit number attached. Don't look at my number until you have sent in your number.

As soon as I have everyone's numbers, I'll post them here and we'll use the next evening's PA Pick-4 Lottery number to determine the draft order. Imaging the 8 numbers on a circle. The cut off date will be to use Tuesday's 7 PM PA lottery number. If I haven't received a number from someone by then, I'll go find what their number was last year and use it. The draft order is determined by the closeness to the PA Pick 4 lottery number. For example, let's say manager A picked 1000 and manager B picked 9500 and the PA Lottery number is 0100. Manager B whose pick was 600 from the lottery number would draft before Manager A whose pick was 900 from the lottery number.

Second order of business is already completed. All managers are registered in the Small Rocks 2008_9 League.

Third order of business: Determine manager's time zones for the draft. Again, when I post the draft order, I'll add the time zone information from last year's records. Please correct the information if I have it wrong.

Fourth order of business: Share your phone number or IM account information with at least one other manager so you can be alerted when it's your turn to draft. The process also includes sending a BigSoccer Private Message to the next person to draft when you make your draft selection.

Fifth order of business: Depending on your availability of the draft, arrange for a manager who will be available during your prolonged absences from the draft, to make your proxy selections. Remember, proxy selections have to be specific and not leave discretion to the proxy manager.

Sixth order of business: Pick when our Go Slow phase of the draft will start and post your draft availability constraints. Remember, the key to the draft is communications. Always post when you will be gone for a while and provide your next few picks to your proxy manager to keep the draft moving while you are away.

Some draft availability constraints: Please post your time zone for the draft.

Hal, manager of Aviators, BigSoccer nickname, Hal, is available evenings and weekends, but has limited access from work. Jay can call me on my cell during the day to tell me it's my turn and what's happened since my last pick. If I don't have computer access, I can have Jay be my proxy manager and post my next selection. Time Zone: EDT (GMT +5)

Jay, manager of Yellowcake Phantoms, aka DoctorJones24, may have limited internet access from 3-7 August. EDT

Andrew, manager of Windsor Wanderers, aka subbuteo, says he is not available Aug 10

Andre, manager of FC Springfield, aka ibreak4coffee, has no draft constraints, except a silly music concert he's attending on August 8. (Priorities!!)

Michel, manager of 1800-UK.com, aka 1800-WorldCup.com, will be travelling from 1-13 August, but should have internet access at night, European time, Michael is home on July 31. Central European Time Zone (GMT -1?)

Eric, manager of Rat Face Villains FC, aka furby, says the first week of August works best for him for the draft.

Craig, manager of Vegas Virgins, aka Vegas2u, has no draft constraints other than, like me, his job. MST (GMT +7)

Paul, manager of In Off The Post, aka Clan, has yet to express any draft constraints, but he has threatened two (unnamed) managers to avoid drafting Deco or else dire consequences will follow.

Like the bit about Deco :)

Still can't believe that Chelsea actually stumped for that ***** after all the histrionics he pulled against the club when playing for Barca.

Anyway...

My number will be sent in a sec.

Bigsoccer is blocked at work, unless I'm on the road it's impossible to get on, plus having two teenage kids in the house makes home access tough during the Summer :)

I'll be relying on proxy I suppose and lots of chores for the young uns :D

Silly music concert? Ha! Its more than music Hal, its Radiohead.:)

In fact, I'll be gone the afternoon and evenings of August 8 and 9, but will have my blackberry with me. Since it will be too loud to talk, emailing me will be best but texting also. I'll pass the relevant info along.

I am hooked at the hip to npowell@goldennugget.com; at work, at home, wherever. Not sure I can work BigSoccer from this thing, but it sure works as an alarm.

Normally not away from my desk for more than an hour, and will declare absences.

Can do proxies.

If we could get a schedule that allowed for a couple picks from Michel on the 31st it would help.

"Craig, manager of Vegas Virgins, aka Vegas2u, has no draft constraints other than, like me, his job. MST (GMT +7)"

I am Pacific Standard Time. So it must be GMT +8.

You know, I am okay with the "Mama Jones Double Blind Draw" method for draft order selection as well. Has worked effectively in the past.

Golden Nugget?

Can you pull any strings and get me back the 300 bucks I lost at your fine establishment three years ago? The cards were really out to get me that night...

Is it just me or is the cupboard a bit bare this year? Whoever drafts first wont have it easy, between the uncertainty around Ronaldo and Adebayor and the fact that Chelsea have four world class midfielders who wont all get the chance to rack up points...

I really believe drafting early this year will be something of a disadvantage.

It will be easier not to have to worry about injuries or transfers. Hal, can I get the number 5 position, please!

So long as Lampard stays, the other three can figth for whatever scraps Scolari tosses towards them...:)

I have received everyone's 4-digit draft number, except Michel, who is travelling. So I asked my wife to provide me a random 4 digit number as a proxy selection for Michel.

The following are the Draft Pick Numbers and the % likelihood of getting the first pick:

Draft 4-Digit Number Team Name Big Soccer Nickname FPL Manager Name

1111 Vegas Virgins Vegas2u Craig Powell
1229 Windsor Wanderers subbuteo Andrew Giffen
2369 Yellowcake Phantoms DoctorJones24 Jay Jones
4444 1800-UK.com 1800-WorldCup.com Jimmy Greaves
6001 Rat Face Villains FC furby Eric Sholes
6868 Aviators Hal Sir Grandpa Hal
7768 FC Springfield ibreak4coffee Coach Wiggum
7845 In Off The Post Clan Clan Blue

We will use tonight's 7 PM EDT PA Big 4 Lottery to determine our draft order.

The following are the ranges and % likelihood of each team getting the first pick:

If the Big 4 PA Lottery number is between 9478 and 1170, a 16.9 % chance, then Vegas Virgins would draft first and the rest of the order determined by who is the next closest to the Lottery Number

9478-1170 Vegas Virgins 16.9 %
1171-1799 Windsor Wanderers 6.3 %
1799-3406 Yellowcake Phantoms 16.1 %
3407-5222 1800-UK.com 18.2 %
5223-6434 Rat Face Villains FC 12.1 %
6435-7319 Aviators 8.8 %
7319-7807 FC Springfield 4.9 %
7808-9477 In Off The Post 16.7 %

Next order of business is to set the time to start this year's draft. Some have suggested to start on the 31st when Michel is home. Others have suggested waiting until around the 5th so that we'll have more information on who's been traded. Please correct or add missing time zone information for the draft.

With our managers all experienced in the draft and the use of proxies, I submit that we can start a Go Slow phase on the 5th and still complete our draft days before the season opens on the 16th and still have time for post-draft, pre-season squad adjustments. It's been our experience in recent years that we never have to enter the Go Fast phase.

I'm open to preferences when we start. Remember, once we start, the database gets locked down.

Is that amazing. I get the 5th spot. I keep wasting these good call on things like draft numbers. Never on an 11 "on the hop" at the Craps table.

I am okay with the starting the 5th as well.

But I can hardly wait to see Clan pick Ronaldo!

Yuck...the soap is already on it's way to the golden nugget :)

Lampard will be the first pick...if he stays at Chels that is...

I think we should all just score tickets to the Radiohead concert with Andre and then do our live draft in the parking lot pre-concert over many beverages.

I'd vote to start on either the 8th or 9th.

Okay with the 8th or 9th as well. Interestingly I have more trouble controlling my time on weekends than during the week. Shows who the boss is!
