Henry misses a great chance on 23mins as he tries to be too clever.
Utd are playing some decent stuff at times and are closing down a lot quicker than Hibs.
quite worrying for Hibee's fans i'd reckon.

24mins
Dundee Utd 1-0 Barcelona
a great ball puts Feeney away down the left. he checks back onto his right foot and crosses to the far post for the onrushing Bauben to put a header down, low past Valdes.

Dundee Utd 1-1 Barcelona
Darren Dods makes a mess of trying to clear a tame cross from the right and it falls to Henry who finishes at the second attempt after Zaluska saved his first effort.

Utd are still playing well.
Bauben has been particularly impressive.

Henry misses another great chance after a breakaway from a Utd corner at the other end.

Dundee Utd 1-2 Barcelona
Messi came on at HT and has scored in the 54th minute.
a bit lucky with the ball breaking back to him from a tackle on Eto'o but he took it well and finished with aplomb.
Utd still playing good football though.

McGovern denies Eto'o. saving bravely at the strikers feet, after putting Franz Wilkiebauer under pressure with a poor throw out.

Dundee Utd 1-3 Barcelona 60mins
Whoops.
the curse of the Dundee Utd backpass continues. new boy Shala, just on as a sub plays it back woefully short and Eto'o says thank you as he steals in, takes it to the side of McGovern and tucks it away.
pity, as Utd have been playing well until that slip.

Dundee Utd 1-4 Barcelona 75mins
Messi's second after a wonderful 1-2 with Eto'o.
Barca have dominated the second half since the arrival of Messi and Eto'o.

FT.
Dundee Utd 1-5 Barcelona
Messi scored again in the 78th min to complete his hat-trick. Eto'o was involved again. him and Messi seemed to have an almost telepathic understanding. Utd gave it a better shot than Hibs, particularly in the first half but the second half they were just overrun.

I was at the match yesterday, we started well against the big boys of Barca. Closing down quickly and putting pressure on the ball.
However when Messi came on in the second half it was a completely different story. The boy is a genius and the football Barca played was beautiful to watch. Shame about the scoreline but it was a good occasion.

Uh oh is that from my AS Roma? I'm all excited to follow Dundee United this year, but I am a Romanista forever - do these two teams have some history?

aye.
Roma were raging, shocked and gutted to have lost the first leg of the european cup final in '84 by 2-0.
they suggested that the Utd players had been enhancing their performance levels unnaturally.
when the second leg was played in Rome both Mclean(Utd's manager at the time) and some players were spat on. Roma won the game 3-0 and it was heavily rumoured that the ref was bribed. don't think it was proven though.
here's Mclean and Ass man at the time, Walter Smith, getting abuse -

Damn, well since I was 3 at the time, I think I can call it water under the bridge. Thanks for the info - I'm just going to have to go ahead and cheer both teams in their respective leagues.
