Ok, so after everything has settled a little bit and after I have seen the whole game, here are my thoughts:

1) We were the better team throughout the game.

Yeah I agree, we were much better throughout.

2) We didn't capitalize enough from that dominance, by not creating a lot of big chances and by giving away some of them (I'm looking at you Cacau).

Yeah, I don't think this is much of an issue since it'll obviously always be hard to create many big chances against Bayern. But Cacau was really shit, well he's been shit all season. Twice he had a horrific first touch on a good throughball where he could have scored and then after Gomez set him up he couldn't even hit the target at point-blank range. Very bad season by him so far. And he shouldn't play against Liege.

3) Bayern played dirty! One should think that those tactics would be beneath a team like theirs. Van Bommel easily deserved two yellow cards for all the shit he pulled, Lucio should have gotten a straight red card after his check against Marica and I think his foul that caused the injury on Marica was also on purpose and hence red-worthy...it was at least a yellow though but he got nothing for it

Yeah I said this too right after the game - Bayern were really, really dirty. Literally i'd be ashamed if my team played like them. It was really bad. Lucio, Van Bommel, Demichelis, Toni, Oddo, all very, very dirty.

And then Oddo...I can't believe how Klinsi can say with a straight face that this wasn't even a card?
It doesn't fcuking matter if Oddo saw Träsch or not. It was clearly dangerous play and if you do something like that you have to make fcuking sure that you don't endanger anyone. Oddo could have beheaded Träsch with that move...if this isn't red I don't know what is. I would have expected sh*t like this from Hoeness, but not Klisni...he has really sunken...

I think wha's probably the case is that they don't want Oddo to get a long suspension. If they're open about the red card they have no leverage but if they deny that it was a red, they could (if they moan enough...) convince the authorities to maybe make the ban shorter by a couple of games. It's pretty ************, but i'm guessing that's their plan. And it for the most part works - Oddo should be banned for like 5 games for that challenge, instead I think he'll probably end up getting like 2 instead.

4) And don't give me that bullsh*t about Rensing being fouled on the second goal. We all know that he's sh*t off the line and it showed again. Even Beckenbauer admitted this and he's clearly not in the Stuttgart camp. Stuttgart would have a lot more reason to bitch about the ref, not only because he was quite lax on Bayern's dirty play (did I mention Toni's antics?) but also because of two other scenes: First there was a scene where two Bayern players used their hand in the penalty area (I think it was Toni and Demichelis) with at least one of them doing it on purpose (Demi?) which the ref didn't see. Secondly there was the Borowski goal where Klose was offside. Now to be fair, personally, I think that goal should stand because I don't think that Klose irritated Lehmann, but I'm just pointing out that this decision could have gone both ways and at least all the commentaries agreed that it shouldn't have counted (Sportschau, Sportstudio as well as the press) as opposed to Khedira's second goal which everybody agrees rightfully counted.
Anyway, in spite of all this, you don't hear Stuttgart bitch about the ref, only Bayern. They were fcuking lucky to come out with a point and they should for once accept that.

Totally agree with this section - they complain the whole ********ing time when in reality they were simply very lucky. It's annoying as hell. But that's Bayern for you, and it isn't gonna change.

Anyway, what was really encouraging was the way we played. Finally our players seem to have found their belief in themselves again. There was a lot of fast, one-touch play going on on our side. I really think that with this newly found self confidence, we can climb up the table a little further during the second half. The last couple of games under Babbel really left me being a lot more optimistic. Now let's beat Liege to make this a nice Christmas for our players...:D

Yeah, we played very good. Gotta give major kudos to Babbel, he's totally changed the side around. It's annoying in a way because if they played all season like they've played in the 4 games since he took over, they'd probably be in a Champions League spot now, right up there with the leaders. It's a real shame.

But regardless whether we make it to the next UEFA Cup round or not, we will still have to agree that Babbel's woken this team up big time.

And if they play like this, i'm confident we will make it through. Liege, judging by their results, are clearly very tough. But if we play like yesterday we will win.

The sad part is that as Gooner pointed out, the moaning and bitching tactics seem to work. The mainstream media only talk about our second goal and if Rensing was fouled and about the red card and if it was justified. Even though they mostly agree with the ref, it means that nobody talks about anything else that would indeed be worth talking about, like Khedira for example.

Quite good marks for Hitzi, and I would tend to agree. We need him playing well if we are going to make a move up the table after the break, so hopefully that performance is just a sign of things to come.

Oddo got three matches, which is what I thought he would get. First offense.

It's one of the reasons I f#cking hate them.....

I wouldn't be so sure of that, but it can't hurt......

So....

As a VfB supporter in America who doesn't really care for the Premiere League, and thinks that the Calcio is a black eye for all of International Football, what the hell am I supposed to do for the next 6 weeks?

Christmas and New Years Holidays will occupy some of my time, but what the heck am I supposed to watch on Saturday Mornings?

Any tips from fans more used to the winter break?

Well, first you can watch us take on Standard Liege at 7.45 on Thursday :)

After that, your guess is as good as mine. Winter break sucks and is unprofessionally long by 21st Century standards, no wonder they're shortening it next year. But yeah, it's a crap time.

Watch downhill on tv and go skiing in the Rocky Mountains.
Winter and summer breaks are great. I would notice no other sport without them.

FIFA or Pro Evo/Winning 11. Whichever you prefer.

I like wintersports, especially downhill skiing. Also great, but harder to catch on TV (at least in Germany) is Boardercross.

Apart from that, my #2 sport to watch is Rugby, unfortunately it's impossible to follow that in Germany...no coverage whatsoever.

And then, I also enjoy Handball, but I'm not really closely following it. I guess I should because it's really fun to watch...

Well, another alternative activity for the winter break would be speculating on who will be our coach to start next season, because the DFB has confirmed the widely held suspicion that Babbel will not get a waived to continue coaching without the full set of badges.

Well that sucks...but there must be a way around that...just get some low profile youth coach who has the badges, promote Babbel to the position of groundkeeper but let him pull the strings...

Well, we'll really have to wait until the end of the season to know how much it sucks.

How much longer does he need to go to get the full badges?

Hire a guy with badges, Babbel as Asst.

I remember when Klopp had to do it in Mainz they found some way around it.

So I don't think it should be a problem, just make Widmayer the 'official' coach while Babbel gets his and continues to make the decisions and lead the trainings.

Anyway, summer's a long way away so let's not worry about that just yet. Babbel's been in charge 4 games so far, let's take it easy. :)

Yup, and I hope it'll continue!

We can make it 5 on Thursday. :)

That's maybe our most important match of the season so far, if we win that all is good with me. :)

how did you get into rugby?

I lived in New Zealand for a while and got infected with the Rugby virus. I also went to Sydney for the 2003 Rugby World Cup. I didn't get any tickets, but it was still awesome (except for the fact that the All Blacks lost miserably in the semi final against Australia, after crushing them with a record victory just weeks before).
