Yeah, Lanig doesn't cut it as creator. He's better on a wing but not in a central commanding position. And Simak hasn't made it big yet. Basturk is injured, and I'm skeptical about the chances of him suddenly becoming good after 15 months of mediocrity.

It's a shame because all we'd need is one really good attacking midfielder and our midfield would look good again. But Heldt and co. have failed ever since Hleb left to get a killer one.

how many games has Lanig played? He looked pretty young as well.

Lanig has played in most of our games. On the wings he's been solid, in a central position he hasn't been good.

Anyway, killer match coming up this weekend at home to a VERY on form Bremen. That's a key match that can allow us to move up places and gain points on a direct compeititor in the Bundesliga if we win, or can cause us to sink further behind in the standings and confirm my suspicion that while we don't have a bad team, we don't have a great one either, and that this side is not up for competing against the best in the league. So a lot at stake here, and we need a result. Only problem is, getting a result will be VERY tough. After their poor start to the season, Bremen have really picked things up and have looked great in recent matches. Yesterday, the drew away to Inter in the Champions League. I definitely considers us the outsiders going into this, and we'll just have to see what we can pull off.

Buuuuuuuuuuut, before that, today we have to cement our place in the Uefa Cup group stages as the return leg at home to Cherno More Varna is played. We played badly in the first leg but still won 2-1, and against this poor team, we really shouldn't have any trouble taking this home today. If we were to mess this up it would be a total embarrassment, but I don't see that happening. I'm hoping the boys will return to form today, put in a good performance and notch up a 3 or 4 goal win in order to allow them to regain confidence and hopefully forget about the Dortmund game.

Team news:

Some injuries to worry about. Unfortunately Boulahrouz picked up a newer injury in the weekend game against BVB and has to miss a couple of weeks, and Delpierre has a fever which could cause him to miss this game. If this is the case, there'd be a dilemma over who to put next to Tasci in central defence. Veh tipped Osorio or Mandjeck, neither of whom are natural centrebacks.

Simak now has a small injury too and Basturk is still injured so that'll create an issue over who to start as creator. Pardo is also still out but i'm assuming Khedira can take his role. But again, seems like we're being very unlucky with injuries just like last season.

Interesting news is that 18 year old hot prospect midfielder Sebastian Rudy is tipped to make his first appearance ever in VfB's starting 11, making him the latest of our youth players to move up. I wish him the best if he does start, and hope he has a convincing performance. :)

congrats on that. I really liked this kid at the u17 wc. You could teach some clubs a thing or two about good youth development...

I guess the recent posts are why there are a bunch of fan rumors linking VfB with Marko Marin??

And BTW, isn't just about everything being discussed what they pay Basturk 3M per season for?? ;)

Marin is nothing more than a rumor now, and not ever a very concrete rumor for the moment....








....however i'd love it if he'd sign :D

Would fit perfectly: young, dynamic, talented, good passing skills, good dribbling skills. Has potential to become even much better than he is now, and we know VfB can do well with youngsters. Would be a dream signing for me, but it's seriously only a rumor unfortunately.
