Anybody want to discuss transfers instead of long term financial policies and the fate of Arsenal in 2023? :D

Sounds good to me. Great Thread Title BTW.

I would like to rant erm, make a statement about this whole Ronaldo transfer to Real Madrid, thingy....

I'm getting sick of it. When the TH14 summer transfer happened, it was swift (relatively compared to this Ronaldogate), it was over and we moved-on (well some of us). And TH14 is so much more awesome than Ronaldo.

Has the speculation of him being the "world's best footballer" gone to his head? First his sister says he's staying, and then his brother says he's going, and the gardener says Madrid is Ronnie's dream club, etc...i know that Portuguese is hard to learn, but is something getting lost in translation?

To quote Steve Langford - "who gives a sh*t, who gives a f**k..."

Rant Over. Thanks

I'm so honored to have made the first page...

And to answer a question from the final thread from Drew...

No, put him in any position and I think Song is garbage.

the prancin pony's move to Real reminds me more of the every summer Vieira stuff than Henry...

Anybody want to make a list of the great Dmids we will not be buying this summer ? I'd make the list of unknown teenage CB that Wenger will buy and convert to Dmids but the cable guy is parked out front and is sure to arrive mid post. ;)

I quite like Ronaldogate, Utd deserves to get their knickers in a twist over one of their stars every once in awhile. It gets even better today when Tevez has said he should be allowed to leave if he wants (similar to Barry to pool)

Veloso heads that list!

as long as we keep this thread to transfer stuff, not "board talk" which i think should be in off topic since its plaguing the entire arsenal forum, then i am fine with it.

Anywho, outside the world of Danny Fiszman and PHW, Chelsea have confirmed their continued pursuit of Robinho. I think he might do well there, which is kinda scary. If they keep Drogba and run their 4-3-3, they would have a very versatile attack.

here's the link, for those of you who dont follow soccernet religiously

Our focus at the beginning of the season was to keep the squad together and add a few players. Lets say two?

We have already broken even in terms of outfield players in to outfield players out. They may not fill a position needed, as Vela does not replace Flamini directly. They do fill the numbers though and once we do sign a DM (you're crazy if you think we won't,) Vela can be seen as one of those players added for depth. Then if we make one more signing for depth we achieved our goal of adding one or two players for depth.

Of course, I'm just an optimist. I'm sure plenty of people will then moan that Vela, Nasri, and new DM signing will need an extended amount of time to adapt to England.

Oh, and Almunia is shite!

everyone was complaining about depth, but as you pointed out, when we get that new DM Wenger promised us, we'll actually be better off than when we ended the season in terms of depth. i'm not worried, as long as this "new" team gets a month of good practice with each other, then the chemistry will get better.

I truly believe we will get one quality CM in.

Somewhat transfer related, but to me injuries will make or break this team. If the trio of RVP, Eduardo, and Rosicky can contribute in some form, we will do well. If the three of them live in the treatment room for the majority of the season, we will be top 4 but not challenge IMO.

^ agree 100% with your post. I, unlike most, think we have all the tools necessary to win the title. it just depends on injuries and consistency. A good start in August/September doesnt hurt either.

depends on injuries and consistency.

It is important to remember that these are attributes of the players you have, not abstract and random elements.

Waaaaay to early to say that. Hleb has just been signed by one of the biggest clubs in the World, at first glance to step into Ronaldinho's position! Consistancy and goals were an issue with Hleb, but to be fair we kept changing his position and the formation around him. Players who can go past defenders at this level are extremely rare. Hleb could do that, we wouldn't have made the CL final without him, Nasri has done nothing yet!
he is not replacing Dinho, and if he is, Barca will suffer...

Nasri is a better player than Hleb...

I think your talkin sh1te! Over the last 2 or 3 seasons Hleb has been one of our most outstanding players. The fact that some people are full of piss and vinegar, because of the way he left, doesn't change the facts!
simply not true... especially when your previous post said he was inconsistent

i wouldnt argue about consistency, but injuries can be random.

That's ironic - usually those defending our policies say its all about the long term, which 2023 would be a part of I think - as certainly its not the short term.

I think if we discuss the transfer situation we now it only enhances the case those who question the club's current policies.

As to your post at the nend of the last thread - if you wish to bring up my posts three years ago - fair enough - provided you provide some actual context to what I actually said then and why as well as how what has happened reflects on it., please.

Yes they can... But for people like Rosicky and RVP, it is quite predictable.

yeah i i know, i guess i was talkin more along the lines of Eduardo, who could have helped us out during the Big 4 games in the end of the season. Sagna too i guess.
