Hi,

I am going on holiday to Scotland in august and would love to go and see a match live in the Scottish Premier League. The fixtures available are:

Sat 16/08/2008 Hibernian v. Falkirk (15:00)
Sat 16/08/2008 Inverness CT v. Hamilton Accies (15:00)
Sat 16/08/2008 Motherwell v. Aberdeen (15:00)
Sat 16/08/2008 Rangers v. Hearts (15:00)
Sat 16/08/2008 St Mirren v. Kilmarnock (15:00)
Sun 17/08/2008 Dundee Utd v. Celtic (14:00)

What games would be realistic to watch (get tickets), which would you recommend and where do I buy tickets for the match?

/Martin

can't see you having a problem with most of those matches.

the Rangers - Hearts one might be a problem. you'd need to book a ticket online as soon as possible once they're released. ditto for the Utd - Celtic match. both matches you'd only get tickets for the home support and would need to be in as early as possible for them.

as for the other ones you should be able to get a ticket without too many problems.

best way to get a hold of a ticket is go to the home clubs official website and find the ticket options from there. although you could pay at the gate for Motherwell, St Mirren and Inverness CT match i reckon.

I imagine you're either going to be staying in Glasgow or Edinburgh, so if I were you I'd take in

Glasgow: St. Mirren v. Killie or Motherwell v Aberdeen. You'll get tickets for the home or away ends without a problem. St. Mirren v. Kilmarnock is pretty much a local derby, though Motherwell v. Aberdeen may be a better spectacle.

Paisley is a shorter train journey however than Motherwell, and the ground is in the historic and beautiful town centre with a few good bars around it. Motherwell on the other hand is a dismal place to visit, and is best avoided by everyone.

Edinburgh: Hibs v. Falkirk, as above you'll get into this without a problem and Easter Rd is a nice ground with a good atmosphere. Plus both teams are reasonably competent at passing the ball about.

Personally I'd avoid the other three as, for the Rangers and Dundee Utd. games you might have trouble getting in, and Inverness as it is in the back of beyond.

I've been to matches in Scotland, including the national team. Tickets are usually rather easy to acquire (other than Celtic & Rangers) and the crowds are an absolute joy. I was once offered a ticket on the train by the guys I was chatting with, unfortunately I had already puchased a ticket earlier that week.

The Scots are good people, easy to make friends at matches there!

You can get celtic end tickets from tannadice, i buy them every season, granted its only a cuple of hundred tickets but if your in early you can snap one up

I went to a Kilmarnock-Inverness CT match in March 2007. It turned out to be fantastic: 3-2 Kilmarnock win, a very lively crowd (the attendance was only 7,600), and the best part was that adults paid £10 for seats and children paid £5.

There may not be too many reduced prices for the second match of the season, but you could always check with the clubs.

Either look on the respective club's websites for tickets or try ticketmaster.

IMO Motherwell v Aberdeen looks like the most attractive fixture. 2 teams which will be looking to be in the top 6, a good away support and a rejuvenated home support. Hibs v Falkirk would be the alternative if your on the east side of the country.

Hi,

Thank you for all of your replys and great advice - I have managed to get tickets for both the Rangers-Hearts game and Dundee-Celtic, so I am looking forward to a great football weekend. And I am planning to see Queen of the South against danish side FC Nordsjælland in the UEFA Cup, but i recon that I can buy tickets at the stadium for that game.

he's going to watch the current, and next seasons, champions first away game of the season.

a splendid choice and it clearly shows he has a good footballing brain.

not sure about the other choice though. maybe he wants a bit of light hearted comedy as well.
