The vast majority of Sunday newspapers today are reoprting that Chelsea have agreed a £3mil pound deal for Freddie Adu.
I was wondering what people thought of this?
Do you think he will fit in the team like Ronaldo has done at ManU?
Or will he struggle in the Chelsea side?

Maybe they're interested in him..
But have they signed him??? I doubt it.

Chelsea are set to beat Manchester United to the signature of 14-year-old American wonderkid Freddy Adu for a £3m fee, according to reports.
The highly-rated teenager, who has been part of the USA Under-17 set-up since he was 13, was rumoured to be set to move to Old Trafford.

But the club apparently pulled out of a deal on Wednesday, allowing Chelsea to move in.

The big-spending London club, who have already spent over £100m since Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich took control in July, will reportedly pay Adu's family £3m over four years.

How much is this in $$$$$$$$$$$?

I still think that MLS will find a way to not only
have Freddie play here for at least 2 years BUT
they will find a way to actually sign him so they
can reap the benefits further down the line.

My sources where the national newspapers The Daily Star, The People and i believe the other one was The Observor. I looked on their websites but couldnt find any refernece to the story on there. It was the main headline in the sports sections of The Daily Star and The People.

Is that correct? im sure Chelsea wouldnt be waisting their time with a stupid mistake- there must be a loop-hole or they have found another way around it.

Didn't he already sign for Newcastle? "Just waiting for the signature." was what I heard. Then I hear he's a lock for Man U. Now it's a done deal with Chelsea. It's not just BS posters who like to start rumors.

1. as a general rule, when the family of the player moves to the country in which the new club is located for reasons that are not linked to football

Makes me sad that the BBC reports this with out the opposing side.

I really don't want Adu to go. I'd like to see him play a few times here in Denver. I don't understand why he wouldn't want to develop on his home soil before going over the pond.

To be honest the whole "home soil" thing might not be that important to him. He lived in Africa till he was 8. Thats more time there than in the US.

If this is true, then all I can say is 'too bad.'

He won't play professionally until he is 18 (in the EPL) unless Chelsea can find a way around the FIFA rules.

He lessens his chances of playing for the US MNT in WC 06.

Chelsea will not rip in the benifits since when his contract will run out in three years, they will have to bid for him among other major teams.

The level of competition of Chelsea Youth Team is way below par compare to a MLS team.

And how is he ever going to get a Work Permit?
It would be an outrage for Spurs fan because Convey got turned down, yet Adu possibly (Chelsea) and Howard (Man U) got in?
And yet Convey got a lot more Caps than Howard and Adu has ZERO. Quite a mystery if that happen. If he is signed with Chelsea the earliest that you will see him in a EPL match will be sometimes in 2007 when he turns 17. (Unless FSW or PPV broadcast EPL Youth Game).

Where did you get the notion that Adu has to wait till he is 18 to get a start. If he is as good as a lot of you claim on here, I don't see why he couldn't get a start at 17 or younger, as did mr. Owen and mr. Rooney.
