We can not move on from SuperLiga fast enough for my taste. Based on tonight the team felt the same way :D

Exactly why I got this thread started. :D

-- I'm assuming we'll see Jaime on Tuesday.
-- Hopefully Gallardo and Peralta are resting comfortably.
-- As mentioned in Goff's blog, Tino's targeting the red bulls match on 8/10 to come back. Hopefully his hammy heals up before then.

I just hope the boys got enough rest tonight. I question starting Fred, Emilio, Namoff, and Simms. I understand the drive to be competitive because you want to make Houston work hard tonight but all four didn't need to start.

Farewell Superliga.

Get well soon Gonzo and Marcello.

Hopefully the Orange Slight Pressure will be resting some o' their valuable starters ahead of their mighty Super Liga Semi Final, when ever that is....

Plus they've got that game on Thursday against that 3rd tier team from London that we have somehow managed to weasel our way out of...

We need to get 2 quick early goals. Question is start a probably bored Thorpe to get the stupid liga out of wells to focus on making the playoffs and trying to get a shoutout. I hope Martinez plays and Jaime does too, it makes a world of difference when hes in, even if he moves like a granpa.

DC United needs the win.

---------------------Wells--------------------
--Namoff----McTavish-----Martinez----Burch--
---------------Simms-------Vide--------------
---------------Moreno------Fred--------------
-------------------Moreno--------------------
--------------Doe---------Emilio--------------

I liked what I saw of Kirk, Carroll and Cordeiro in the last game, and they should be subbing in for tired players at the end (I thought they showed better than Thompson).

I think Burch needs to stop taking the freekicks.

An option in the back at the end of the game could be :

---Carroll----Namoff----McTavish-----Martinez--

With Kirk and Cordeiro getting some minutes for either Fred or Moreno. Rod played much better than he has lately and could give some resting minutes to Simms (as well as having some fresh legs for a tired hard endless worker at the end of the game).

DC United needs the 3 points and neds to go out and get them.

If we are allowed to play with 12 on Tuesday and a second Moreno, i like our chances. :-)

At least Houston will be without Holden.

I was just going to comment on the two Moreno's. It would be fun to have one old Jaime and one "bleach" Jaime. Or better yet... a team full of Jaime's???

I wonder what Houston is doing with their extra time in DC. Tourist stuff? Extra training sessions?

We need a win on Tuesday - that will go a long way towards washing the Superliga stink off...

I hope they eat some tainted food and lay out in the sun too long and run two-a-day practices in the afternoon. DC neeeds any advantage it can get for Tuesday's game. At least DC has a new player they can add on Tuesday (Jose Vide ?). It makes me uneasy thinking DC will be starting two Red Bull rejects (Vide and Doe). But because they gave up on Moreno and Quaranta, maybe being an ex-Red Bull means you actually do have talent -- they only keep the bad ones. But I digress . . .

DC needs to put the best 11 on the field on Tuesday and that means Moreno must play. Houston was able to rest players because of the lead they built and only played Ching for part of the game so Houston will have a depth advantage. DC has to come into the game with more focus and commitment on defense. DC has an 11 day break after that game for players to rest up. If they play on Tuesday like they did no Saturday, if I were Soehn I'd have them back at practice on Wednesday morning. But honestly, the break in games couldn't come at a better time for DCU. Maybe they can use that 11 day break to find some talent to fill the roster opening.

I'm very excited to have a game that actually matters coming up. However, I don't see all that different of a line-up from the one that was embarrassed last night taking the field. Hopefully they too realize how much more important Tuesday's game is.

Not sure my eyes can take the double dose of bright orange twice in one week though :)

actually looks like Holden & Ianni are being allowed to arrive late to the pre-Olympic Camp

from houston's website (http://houston.mlsnet.com/news/team_news.jsp?ymd=20080717&content_id=173694&vkey=news_hou&fext=.jsp&team=t200)
"Capping a three-game week with the Dynamo, the two players are scheduled to join the Olympic squad in Stanford, California on July 23, one day after the Dynamo's MLS league contest at D.C. United. The majority of the future Olympians, including 11 MLS products, should arrive at the Stanford University campus on July 20."

Priorities for this match as I see them-
1. Get the three points.
2. No soft goals- Ever!
3. Rely less on defensive positions for offense-let 'em conserve energy and concentrate on defense for a change.
4. Don't compromise our width up top. Get at the flanks, serve or get corners.

It's a home match, so I expect a win. That's the DC United way, just in case Superliga had anyone forgetting.

I expect eventually the team's defense to round into form, and hopefully acheive a shut-out before season's end, but right now, I'd settle for a well-marked match and no soft goals. But please- don't let that keep the team from surprising us all and give the Creamsicles a donut on their way outta town.

I think if we rely on Jaime like we expect, this match might be the one to go from 4-4-2 to 3-5-2, at least early on. Folks calling for early scores are right, with 2 d-mids behind Jaime I'd be a lot more confident in our chances of keeping the ball high, getting our wings consistent on their flanks. All of this of course depends on how good a 2nd dmid we have on the roster.
I think either Vide, Martinez or Burch could fill those shoes, and not leave us too thin at the back line.
So we'd have

--------------------Wells---------------------
Namoff-------------McTavish-----Mrtnz/Brch/Carroll
------------Simms----------Vide/Mrtnz/Brch--
Fred----------------Jaime-------Cordeiro/Brch/Mines
-------------Emilio----------Doe----------------

bench: Carroll, Zaher,Thompson(mines),Kirk, Dyachenko

Emilio keeps his rep scoring either a brace, or one and assist to Doe.
Jaime adds one in style and in the run of play.
3-1.
Vamos United.
