maybe the discount was already applied, like a coupon ;)
Adidas owns Reebok.
Which makes it even less likely they'll help buy Podolski in my opinion.

When Poldi makes his move to Cologne, 10,000 shirts will be sold - maybe more.
Then when Poldi is on the national team, a few more thousand shirts gets sold. So they kick in some cash as they know they will make money on the deal.

Dude, people up there have been special ordering "Poldi" shirts since last year. I wouldn't be surprised if they have sold a more than a thousand already.
And Poldi is already on the national team. His fans in Koln didn't stop buying his Germany stuff just because he went to Bayern.
I really think you are overestimating how much the Adidas Group can make on this deal.
There might be money to be made, but enough to cover partial finance of that transfer?
I don't know about that.
And there is still the conflict. The Adidas group also owns a percentage of FC Bayern Muenchen......

If Poldi doesn't play for Bayern - would he still be on the national team? Maybe, but much less likely.
Adidas/Reebok (one company) -I'd ball park they make about €12-17 on each jersey, and the cost of goods sold goes down with the bulk orders.
I fully expect FC to unveil a new shirt next season to fully capitalize on the Poldi transfer.

Loew is just talking shit. He's reacting to pressure from the media. Poldi hasn't been playing at Bayern all this time and he was still called to the team.
When Lehmann was benched at Arsenal, did Loew drop him???
When the money is on the line, who would you rather have on the pitch, Lukas Podolski or Stefan Kiessling??

Dude, you really don't get the frugalness of the German consumer do you?? I'm not saying they won't make money with Podolski shirts, but just not as much as you seem to think.
Do you really think all of the people who already have some type of "Poldi" shirt, even older ones, are all going to run out and buy new ones just because they are out there??
If you think that, you really don't get the frugalness of the German consumer.....

okay we'll just have to see how it goes. I do remember Meier mentioning some support from Reebok on a potential deal.

Wasn't he discussing "possibilities??"
I never saw anything about a commitment from Reebok on helping to finance a Poldi deal. I researched that when BVB was still being thrown about as a possible alternative, but I could have missed something.
Depending on how much more they need, it could be a good investment for the reasons you noted.
However, unless "Reebok" (There's nothing at the adidas corporate website (http://www.adidas-group.com/en/overview/history/default.asp) that shows Reebok as anything more than a subordinate brand) is operating with autonomy under the "Adidas" banner much like Audi independently operates under VW, I really don't see that happening again, because of the group's stake in Bayern.

It might have been "possibilities", but I don't think he would bring it up unless
a) He had already to them and they expressed interest and wanted a bit of publicity
b) He had spoken to them and they were lukewarm, so he put the carrot out there in public eye to let them get caught up in the hysteria.
c) He hadn't spoken to them and he put the carrot out there in the public eye to let them get caught up in the hysteria.
;)
No point in arguing the point, neither of us know anything of the inner workings of this deal.

That is true, but let me say this. You've seen what Meier has gotten into in the past. I still have heartache because of some of it. ;)
You never know with Meier. He loves to say things to get the fans' hopes up. He did it with us all the time......

Yeah, but hopefully he's learned his lessons. Plus I think Rumenigge's comments mean the deal is close enough to get our hopes up.

Am I the only one a little worried about signing Podolski at this point and not only because of the large amount of money involved. I'm a little unclear on whether they are trying to buy him for the ruckrunde or for next season, but how will the team tactics change if its for this season? On the left wing for Ehret or up front with Nova? Will he track back if on the wing? Or if he plays up front will the reduced midfield leave the defense more exposed? Or what about his huge publicity upsetting the team chemistry?
As mitigators: Maybe the introduction of Boateng bolsters our midfield quality and of course I have confidence in Daum being able to cope with the changes in tactics and team dynamics.
Of course I am excited at the possibility of a more potent offense complimenting our up to now strong defense, but I was just wondering about everyone elses opinion.

I think Daum knows what he is doing. If we get Poldi, I suspect its for now.

Next season man. It's for next season. Bayern isn't letting him go before then.

Guys, I certainly hope your club will never have the "audacity" to ask Lukas Podolski to "earn" anything after he returns to your club.
Yahoo World Soccer: Klinsmann Saddened By Podolski's Lack Of Fight (http://sports.yahoo.com/sow/news;_ylt=Ag0_3JaUpBEnZnOB.59zCc0XwLYF?slug=reu-germanyklinsmannpodolski&prov=reuters&type=lgns)
I guess I have to apologize to Lars Ricken. While Ricken was in my opinion, too much of a chickenshit to leave Dortmund (a "homebody" like Poldi), he at least fought for his playing time while he was there.
In my opinion, Poldi is just a big punk who wants everything handed to him just as it was before he went to Bayern and even on the national team afterwards.
Koln is the one place where his feet will be kissed as long as he decides to play there.
Good luck to you both........
I hope for you guys' sake, returning to Koln also helps him find his testicles. Because right now, I don't think he has any.

Below is an "adjusted" post to the Bayern transfer thread that lays out a "supposed payment plan" for you guys to pay for Podolski.
If it is true, in my opinion, it would be a good plan for both clubs.
Here it is:
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Sport1.de article on a possible Podolski transfer payment plan set-up (http://www.sport1.de/de/fussball/fussball_bundesliga/artikel_53984.html)
This is how the Poldi deal is supposed to be set up:
- Koeln pays 7.5 million right away
- 2 friendly matches that guarantee Bayern 1 million revenue each (if its less, Koeln pay the difference)
- Bayern receives the fee the NT pays Koeln for the first 15 NT matches he gets called up for, 40.000 euros each, 15 x 40.000 = 600.000
So Bayern end up getting 10.1 million for him

So Köln are basically selling their own grandmother to finance the Poldi transfer. That's a lot of pressure on Poldi to perform right from the start.

Pretty much. I really don't think it will be the plan posted, but I think they will work something out with Bayern to pay them the 7 or 7.5M immediately and some kind of payment plan for th rest.
I just hope this deal doesn't destroy everything else it took 1. FC Koln this long to restore. :o
I've never been a "Koln fan", but it is great to have this club and its fans back in the 1st Bundesliga.
Because of their fans, I wish Koln and Mainz could always be in the 1st Bundesliga.

€7.5 million cash doesn't sound too bad.
Two friendlies - 50,000 x 20 euro = €1 million. The average ticket price might be high, but it gives them a way to pay the fee down without digging €2 million deeper into their own pockets now.
National team = at least it isn't immediate cash now.
All in all, this would be a pretty good deal as Keith said. I don't think its selling the grandma, maybe an uncle through marriage.

Yes, but as I posted in the Bayern forum, it is all speculation. Neither side has confirmed such a deal and it doesn't look like one Bayern would do.
