Mpenza- not a big fan.

I'm not a big fan either. I think he was quite good when he played for Schalke, but that was a long time ago.

By the way, the FC homepage confirms that Petit will be in Cologne on Wednesday for his medical check-up. :)

 it looks like Petit will come for free, we only have to pay 3 Mio`s if we sell
hi (according to the portuguese press)

according to the german press he will cost 500 000- 1 Mio which is still pretty cheap

However his salary will be around 1.5 Mio which is alot for the fc

still thats a great deal

Meier really did a pretty good job this season

Wow. That is a great deal. Good job Meier.

Now, get me another forward, someone young with potential who won't mind being on the bench to learn a bit.

Press conference announced for 1 pm CET, I hope they will present our new star then.

I'm utterly pleased with this transfer, but I think we should at least try to get another good player for our offence. Someone who might play striker when Ishiaku or Novakovic are injured and OM the rest of the time.

Daum looks mighty happy. Mighty happy!

Meier looks rather pleased as well. :D

The Reebok guys have also reason to be jubilant. The production of thousands of red jerseys with no. 12 on the back will save many jobs.

Duisburg - Köln 1:1.
According to BILD, Daum suggested after the match that signing another striker might be necessary. Well, that's obviously true, the only question is: Do we have enough cash to spend?

What do you guys think, are we good enough to stay in the Bundesliga?
IMO our defenders and defensive midfielders are really strong, but I'm not convinced that we've got enough average or even above-average players up front.

We need another striker. Young and willing to fight for playing time.

I would also like to see another striker, as I mentioned in my earlier posts I am not really convinced that Ishias is the right one for the FC.
And I am sure that some cash is still left for transfers.

I think we do have the potential to stay in the bundesliga, but we have a very difficult start and it depends on how the team can stand the pressure if it doesn't work out well for us.

I surely hope that I am wrong, but I doubt that everyone is ready for the seasons start. My worst case scenario looks like this: We will win the Cup match, Scherz and Nova will be part of the first 11 and both will score their goals (5-1)

With just one striker we will lose against Wolfsburg 2-0.

Because Ishias is still not ready for the Frankfurt match we will play with only one striker and tie the match 0-0

Another tie in Karlsruhe, because we act too defensive.

Ishias first match will be against Bayern, but after a good beginnig we lose this one as well (2-4).

After only 2 points after 4 matches the press will critizise players like Nova, Petit, Geromel, etc. We all know from the past how this can end for the team...

As I said I surely hope that this scenario is wrong

@ Köllealaaf: With our recent history of failure in the cup, I'm prepared for the worst regarding our season opener in Niederauerbach. Wolfsburg is also kind of a "bogey team" for us, but let's hope they'll have difficulties getting their act together with so many new players. What's really important is winning our first match at home, especially against a potential rival in the relegation battle.

@ Panic: I'd rather sign another experienced player to be honest - someone who could help us from day one with his goals or assists. In the department of talented and hungry strikers, we've already got Chihi who will hopefully have his breakthrough this season.

It seems that Claus Horstmann (CFO) spoke out against another transfer. After the signing of Petit, the club could not afford to take a higher (financial) risk. (Source: Bild.de (http://www.bild.de/BILD/sport/fussball/bundesliga/vereine/koeln/2008/08/03/koeln-stoppt-daum/stuermer-transfer-abgelehnt.html))
That means we can stop dreaming about another striker I guess.

I'm prepared as well, but Niederauerbach is playing in the 5th division, I think they can be compared to Siegburg in my opinion. I have the feeling that Scherz will become our matchwinner :D

It seems that we really won't get another striker. Really bad, the promotion last season was due to our superb strikers. Helmes left and we did not get any replacement for him... All we got is an injured second-class-compared-to-helmes-striker (sorry, that's my opinion).
That's why I think that Scherz will play against Niederauerbach and we will play with only one Striker in the Bundesliga (unless Ischias is not injured anymore).

The offence will be our weak spot this season.

How far in advance is GolTV's match selection given for their Bundesliga coverage?

At the season opening ceremony yesterday at Müngersdorf, Michael Meier hinted at new transfer activities in case of Ishiaku and Sanou remaing injured for too long. It seems that signing a new striker isn't out of the question after all.
