Wow, less than a day away and no pre-match thread yet. That shows just how much folks are thinking about this match, huh?

How many starters will we see?

How hot will it be?

How many people will show up for this match?

We'll definitely be missing Gallardo, Peralta, and probably Quaranta among the regular starters, if he were to want to go with starters.

I think these are the droids (http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=720131) you are looking for.

Yeah, I guess. The title isn't right, but the content definitely is.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

United played themselves out of any real significance with this game. Even though I have tickets, I think I'll go see Batman rather than watch the reserves go through the motions.

I believe this will be one of the lowest attendance Saturday night games for DC in years perhaps ever.....

Well, I like going to reserve matches. Plus, it's my team, and my team could be playing like shit, or playing their reserves, or playing a silly opponent, and I'd go support them.

Well said Bootsy AND also why would the reserves just go through the motions!! This may be one of their few opportunities to get on the field in something other than a resrve match. Isn't that what they're working toward? Cause it sure ain't that sizzlin' paycheck!
But if I were to bet money those reservists, for the most part, won't start. It's not what should happen but I think it's what will happen.

I don't quite understand the apathy.

I have a chance to go watch a live, professional soccer game and drink some beer.

Uh, people would have killed for this opportunity 15 years ago.

Gotta keep it in perspective, people.

All QFT!

It's still United playing. Be it the stars or the reserves. They have the same badge in that shirt

It's a good chance to get some experience for the reserves and for the fans to get to know them. Looking at DC's personnel we should be able to field a team that can afford some rest to the starters for the MLS match on Tuesday.

-----------------------Jim Thorpe

Jeremy Barlow--Chad Ashton---Dane Murphy--Mike Zaher

------------Pat Carroll--------Francisco Tobar

--Quavas Kirk-----------------------Craig Thompson

--------------Tony Limarzi--------Ryan Cordeiro

Jim Thorpe was once voted best athlete of the early 20th century so he should be able to handle anything Houston throws at us. Ashton can use his physique and experience to man up on any Houston forwards and get the ball to wily vet Tobar who, like many pudgy Latinos I play pickup with, probably has some good skill on the ball. Limarzi's enthusiasm should be worth a couple extra players and will motivate the team to its highest energy level ever.

Edited to add: I'm not sure Pat Carroll is fully fit. If he can't give 100% we can probably use Talon, as several posters called for him (or her?) to play in another thread.

I know and hear what a lot of folks would like to see, in skipping this and refocusing on USOC and MLS, but given our defense's form, I'd rather have them at least for a half trotted out to improve on their form, especially given we're gonna face them again Tuesday.
Is it 4 subs for Superliga?
I can see some quality in reserves starting in most roles, but .. who's the engine on offense .. Rod? If we go that route again, I'd say this is his last chance to prove he's worth a start for us. Ever. I've got no problem relegating him to sub or even super-sub potential. But if he can't come up with an improved performance in this situation- (which screams for it btw)
than let's call the spade a spade and move on.
A tall order to be sure, but let's hope Tommy earns some rep, and our reserves toast the defending champs 2-nil.
C'mon already defense!!
Vamos United.

I'd swap Tobar and Limarzi

My guess is that Soehn will field a mixed line-up
------------------Wells-------------------
Namoff-----Carroll-------Martinez----Burch
------------------Simms------------------
Thompson------------------------Cordeiro
------------------Fred(one half)-----------
-----------Doe-----------Emilio(one half)--

Burch and Martinez might be switched.
Fred and Emilio(and possibly Martinez)will see one half.

I was wondering the same damn thing. No one has bothered to change that "bench all starters for saturday" thread's name to what it should be, and the trolls have been running rampant around here for a at least a couple weeks now.

I wasn't going to go, but my niece is visiting from California and wants to go to the game. So 3 of us will be there -- joining the other handsfuls of fans in an "intimate" setting.

I expect to see Dyachenko on the field, perhaps paired at forward with Doe. I Emilio and Jaime would be second half subs, if needed. Move Fred inside, and let Cordeiro and Thompson play wing. Move Martinez into the middle with McTavish, with Burch on the left and Zaher/Carroll on the right, to give Namoff a break. I wish we had a logical backup for Simms, who deserves a break, but with Stratford out I don't know who is now #2. Perhaps P. Carroll?

Moving Rod to the front line isn't an outlandish idea. He has played there before, has a thunderous shot, and will benefit from having his mind unburdend from the pressures of being an A-Mid. Actually, I wouldn't mind our formation morphing into something like a 4-5-1, with Doe up top, and Fred and Rod free to make runs into the box. Or, if things are going well, keep Rod up front with Doe and let McT move into midfield in a 3-5-2.

Reserve matches are free, this is not. I've supported United through many tough games where they have played poorly, but when the games become almost literally meaningless that's where I draw the line.

At another level the team (and FO) needs to be held accountable to a higher standard. This is after all Professional Football where support is earned. If some of the players won't show the necessary passion and effort why should I?
