Blackpool today announced the signing of 20 year old Liverpool winger Adam Hammill on a six month loan deal.

Hammill who has just signed a new three year contract at Liverpool spent six months on loan at Southampton last season, and in 2006-07 spent the season on loan at Scottish club Dunfermline Athletic.

Hammill has played for England at Under-19 level and although his loan spell at the seaside is only sx months, it is something of a coup for us to get Hammill as he is widely regarded as being one of the best up and coming players in England and Rafa Benitez is said to have stated that Hammill will be a Liverpool regular in soon.

Hammill is described as being a flamboyant and creative midfielder. (Wes who??? :p) Last weekend he scored two goals for a Liverpool team ina pre-season friendly against local non-league club Southport FC. Both goals are on YouTube and whilst his first goal is superb, his second goal is sensational.

First goal (even though it says 2 it is the first goal!)

Second goal - wow "plays as though the ball is tied to his boot laces at times"

A rather special goal for Dunfermline against Celtic

"I'm not sure whether he's playing much, but how has Adam Hammill looked thus far? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!"

So in reply -

In the pre-season friendly against St Mirren he showed why Blackpool signed him. The first game of the season at home to Bristol City, he gave it all, even getting the crowd going when he came over to the North West corner to take a corner and applauding the fans when they were applauding him down the far end of the West Stand. He was gutted when Bristol City stole an undeserved winner in the last minute. He also that game, and since to be honest, makes great effort to come and applaud the fans after the game especially to the Kop where the main singers and drummers are situated.

Since that first game he has been hit and miss really. He certainly puts in effort, but has drifted out of games a bit at times. Last week at Southampton was probably his worst game so far, and he came off injured in the second half (think it was just cramp though hopefully). However, he was getting a lot of stick off Saints fans and maybe was trying to hard given he played for them last season. He seems at times to try too hard and rush. Some of his crosses, clearly rushed have been awful. Me though I'd take that as he is great to watch play.

He does the unexpected though, he is not scared to run at players and take them on and is string. He is still very young though really and clearly has a lot to learn, and we as a club in my opinon have a player who has great potential to do very well in the game at Liverpool. So if we can keep hold of him until the end of the season, then it will be great for the club. Especially as now we have three exciting, technically gifted skilful midifielders at the club competing for place in Hammill, David Vaughan (who has lacked match fitness and so far just played as a sub but who will surely start soon) as well as Andy Gow signed initially on loan from Rangers, but with a deal already in place to sign him if it works out.

So early season report so far for Hammill - exciting to watch, clearly still learning, has made a few mistakes, but should do well! :D

Sounds great so far. I only really got to see highlights of the reserve matches so I usually only saw the good/upside of Hammill, but he certainly looks good with his footwork and willingness to run at defenders. Good to hear he is a class act as well by applauding the supporters and giving his all every game.

Thanks for the report and good luck to you lot this season. Cheers!
