Seems a piece of glass in his right foot that kept him out a few weeks ago was not entirely removed and caused an infection. He was operated on yesterday and the material was removed. My guess is he is out for two weeks. Lovely.

I have to say right now the gut is telling me a really bad start through September, Kurz gets sacked and we pick up the pieces in October and struggle to make mid table. Spring brings a few new key players through winter transfer (1 offensive, 1 defensive) and we barely make the top 5.
On another note, nice interview with Berhalter. The boy is picking up points with me....he has shown he is a true professional, not a bitchy whiner like some players. Mastrocomplainy on the USMNT could take a few lessons from Gregg.

From the training video (http://www.eyep.tv/2.-bundesliga/tsv-1860-munchen/tsv-1860-intensive-vorbereitung-fur-ahlen.html) online looks like Kurz is practicing with YET ANOTHER defensive line up. Seems to have Johnson - Beda - Thorandt - Hoffman practicing together. The next line-up appears to be B. Schwarz - Berhalter - Ghvinianidze - Baumgartlinger. Interesting!!!

Not a bad draw for '60, although their form really needs to be polished.

I expect to crash out of the Cup. They need to focus on Klassenhalt...staying up.

Interesting Kicker article (http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/2bundesliga/startseite/artikel/222679/) on Kurz's situation. Essentially says that he has the worst record of any recent 1860 manager since relegation. They mention that Reuter still thinks he is the right man for the job and needs time. The press is speculating that his system for the backline is inconsistent and the reason for the losses. Kurz replies that the failures have nothing to do with the system and everything to do with poor play.
For my money I agree with Kurz, but the system INCLUDES who you pick in the back and where you play them, not just that a flat back 4 is right or wrong.
Totally missing from the picture is the FACT that 1860 plays three of its first four games against favorites for promotion this year: Freiburg, Mainz and Duisburg.
My guess is that if Kurz does not have 7 points or more in the bag after the game against Ingolstadt he is toast. Right guy or wrong guy, sometimes teams need a boot up the ass from a fresh face. I hope they can pull it off....I really like Kurz.

A coach is only as good as the players he has to work with.
People need to face facts. 1860 just ain't that f#ckin' talented.
And when you aren't that talented, you can only compete by out-working your opponents.
1860 isn't doing that. And right now, that is their only hope....

watching today's game you're dead on. this team sucks. this is the worst team in years. this is relegation battle from the start. lauth is a shadow of his past. bierofka is the only player of BL2 level. defence is very poor mainly to Kurz holding on to GB. BL3 here we go!:(:(

Which goes to getting players we can afford. I would have built up the defense a bit more. Beda and Throrandt just suck. Man-marking is a lost art but they seem not to have even HEARD of it.

Well, they don't suck either, but they are not playing anywhere NEAR their potential. Its like half of them don't know what to do while the other half are too scared to make a mistake. They are not playing as a team right now.
And when you aren't that talented, you can only compete by out-working your opponents.
Agree. I am a big supporter of Kurz, BUT....he keeps changing the personnel and the line-up. Third game, third line-up change, same result. As much as I like him this is one area where I think he IS at fault.

Dude.....down a man, just equalized, have 5 minutes to kill and you DON'T mark man-to-man in the defensive third? Kurz AND team need to focus on that and nothing else. The entire defensive line was at fault for the first goal. They watched #4 waltz in. For my money leave DiSalvo on the bench and give the Schaeffler kid a whack at it, but LEAVE THE REST OF THE KINE UP ALONE. Sink or swim with one crew, but let them gel.

this is the worst team in years.
Same team as the hinrunde last season with a few minor changes. When you look at the three 1-2 losses you have to blame the defense and defensive midfield for not marking. EVery damn goal goes back to poor positioning, poor marking and poor decisions. They were not scored through immense creativity by the opponent, rather by pure, utter stupidity from the defense...and, in a few instances, very ppor play from the keeper.
Beda is useless. I see now why FCK let him go. Lauth, while not his "old self" is not that bad. Central defense just blows. The wings are not much better.
Just watched the second goal from yesterday: Less than 2 mins left and 1860 has only THREE men back defending on the counter while Ahlen has FIVE men attacking. Bender, Bierofka, Shaeffler and Baumgartlinger were NO WHERE to be seen. That's crap defending, crap tactics and crap play. If Kurz and company cannot do better, perhaps they deserve to play in the 3.BL.

Mine, not Kicker's....
Tschauner: (3,5) Was only really challenged a few times and saved when needed to. Not his fault as he was left helpless point-blank on the two goals.
Hoffmann: (6) Outside the 16m box he was fine. Inside the 16m box he was a catastrophe. His fault on the first gaol as he totally did not mark his man.
Thorandt: (6) Head up his ass for 90 mins. At fault for the second goal.
Beda: (6) Head up Thorandt's ass for most of the game.
Johnson: (4,5) Good overlaps but pensive going too far forward as he did last year. He needs to move up more as he has the speed to get back.
Ledgerwood: (4,5) Had a decent game but went out injured in the second half.
Bierofka: (3) The only one on the pitch who gave a damn today besides Tschauner and Ledgerwood.
D. Schwarz: (5) Subbed out early and thank God. Something is wrong with him this season. Just not the same guy.
Holebas: (5) Not bad but not good. Really should have been back more to help cover.
Lauth: (4) Did not have much to work with but was dangerous with the few opportunities given. Hard to rate a striker when the ball is not up there much.
Di Salvo: (4) Not bad but expect a bit more from him.
S. Bender: (5) Was generally much better than in past game but his horrid back pass is what caused Beda to foul and get sent off for last man foul. though, truth be told, had the defense been playing their positions that foul would not have been necessary.
Baumgartlinger: Came on too late to rate but was disappointing in his ability to cover in the back for the last few minutes. At his age he should be running like a Labrador puppy for 90 mins and not break a sweat. He failed to cover back.
Schäffler: As with Lauth it is hard to rate a striker when there is not offense. However, his first touch was a beautiful pivot and shoot in the box which could have gone in. I would start this kick over Kusuckovic ANY day.

Which is why I laughed when some thought 1860 were getting some great player Beda. I mean, come on, FCK let him go.
He doesn't normally suck the way he did yesterday, but he's no great player and I don't think he should keep Gregg on the bench.
Gregg does bring fire to the team.
Well, they don't suck either, but they are not playing anywhere NEAR their potential. Its like half of them don't know what to do while the other half are too scared to make a mistake. They are not playing as a team right now.
You are right. And I think the reason for that is just what you say below.....

Exactly. And while I defended Kurz and I still do, you are right. The lineup shuffles are his fault.
And Garry, I don't think "our boy" Ku-SUCK-ovic was doing that badly. I would have kept him out there with Lauth.
I'm sorry, but I just don't rate diSalvo. I'd rather hope Ku-SUCK-ovic finally comes through rather than trot diSalvo's sorry ass out there.
Today's "Bild" headline was something like "1860 Loses Again And Kurz Is Still Trainer!"
Well, yes, he is. Who are they going to get who they can afford who is better???

He has been marginally better than diSalvo.

Honestly, would rather see Schaeffler get a chance. HE's young, hungry and shows signs of having a pulse; things lacking in both DiSalvo and Kusuckovic.

I thought KuSuckovic was showing a bit of a pulse. Not just because of the goal, he was actually where he needed to be more often.
Perhaps he can learn from Lauth, but he can't from the bench.
Please tell me more about this Schaeffler if you have time.

Good young kid. Acutally remind be of Benny when he came up. Good nose for goal, fast, strong in the air, good dribbler, nice shot. Will likely get poached for a second division club. Really hope no one over hypes him like was done to Milchraum and Adler. He is as good, if not better, than they were at his age. I think we have him under contact until '10 or '11. Hates Dortmund and anything north of Muenchenerfreiheit, so not likely to transfer anywhere soon.:D

Will likely get poached for a second division club. Well, wouldn't that be the 1860 "A" team?? ;)
I'll try to start keeping an eye out for this kid.
But as far as getting "poached", you said the same about Fabian Johnson and he hasn't been "poached" either...... :o

Beda got a three match suspension for his red card against Ahlen.
According to "kicker" the photo below is of the foul that earned the red card.
http://mediadb.kicker.de/news/1000/1020/1100/4000/artikel/596496/beda_rot-1220355211_zoom89_crop_600x450_600x450+29+0.jpg
Beda will miss home matches against MSV Duisburg (1860's next match) and FC Ingolstadt 04 and an away match at St. Pauli.
No free trip to the Reeperbahn. I'd be pissed off if I were him! LOL! :D
