As something of an aside... I was looking through the 1860 online shop and noticed the CDs of song and chants... I was wondering if anyone (perhaps here in the States) would have copies of these I could test drive...?
PM me. I have a few of the discs, though Eddie will swear I do not as I have not sent him (for the second time) the disc I owe him. (Note to self, go to post office at lunch and send Eddie his CD):p

If you go to this page (http://www.tsv1860.de/de/aktuell/loewenradio/) you can hear 1860's audio clips. At the bottom are samples of some of the songs/chants. In my FIFA game for PC I hav loaded the 1860 chants into the sound file so that while the game is going on the 1860 chants play. Very cool!!!

Speaking of which, Kicker has their projected lineup up on their site.

Tschauner
Thorandt, Ghvinianidze, Berhalter, T. Hoffmann
Beda
Ledgerwood, Bierofka
D. Schwarz
Lauth, Kucukovic

Only Schroth and Göktan (out sick with a virus) are listed as unavailable.

I'd like to see 2 from Benny to start off the season right. :D

I'd like to see two from 1860 period. They don't have to be from the prodigal son in my book......

If the f#cking overrated (in the past) SOB doesn't score a goal this season and 1860 has a great season, that's good enough for me.

Amen. You know me, I don't care if Berhalter or Kusuckovic score. I will take back all bad things I ever said about Kusuckovic if he scores several. I laid off of Gregg all last season after riding him pretty hard the year before. Will do the same if Kusuckovic does the same.

What I love about Keith is that he is so SHY about his opinions.:D

I agree. Don't think anyone cares who scores the goals. Honestly I like Benny and hope he has a successful return. It would be WAY too much pressure to put on the guy to THE answer to our goal scoring. Anyone who has seen 1860 play knows that scoring is only half the problem. If the ball ain't being moved up the guys paid to score, can't. I know Keith shares this position.

I have a six of Thurn und Taxis in the fridge just waiting to open for Sunday. FioS connection and large monitor all set to see the stream!!!!

Here is what the 1860 site says. Some interesting changes to Kurz's "normal" line-up:

Hoffmann in for slightly injured Benny Schwarz.
Berhalter in for Thorandt on the inside. Reason? Thorandt is on the right.
Thorandt in for Johnson. Not sure why this is. He must have seen something in the last 2-3 weeks OR simply for this game that he wants to address.
Gebhardt for Goektan. Latter is injured.
The performance of the defense and Gebhardt are KEY. The wings need to shut down the flanks, the center needs to mark and avoid the gaffes that have cost us in the past. Gebhardt MUST step up and show that he can play.

Same here. Besides, Ku-SUCK-ovic is a good way to remember how to actually spell his name too. Just drop the "s".

Dude, there's usually a method to my madness! LOL!!

LOL!! ;) Just don't like things being all about certain players. Especially Mr. Overrated (I mean Lauth if anyone still has any doubts). If 1860 is going to move forward this season, it will be as a TEAM, not because of one guy.

Besides, even with Mr. Overrated's return, in my mind, Daniel Bierofka is still the best player on this TEAM.

The U23s beat Mannheim 4-1. A strong showing for the Loewen. They were actually up 4-0 in the 89th when Mannheim scored...and that was on a PK. Goal scorers below.

Well 1-2 was the final. Too many lost passes and poor marking. Frankly, the referee disallowed a goal which gave 1860 the lead only to allow a very similar goal for SCF later in the match. Lauth played well. Defense was suspect. Lack of ideas from Schwarz. Bierofka has to be man of the match. Detailed synopsis later.

Well, a 2-1 loss was the predicted outcome by many except me, so... It was good to see Benny Lauth get on the board with a goal. Here's to hoping they can get 3 points against Mainz this weekend.

Tschauner (3): Oh lord....clearly Kicker likes him. Bobbled 3 shots, punched one he shoutl have caught and had that clown-fest shwoing on the edge of the 18 where he very nearly "in bounds passed" the ball to teh SCF player who then, like a moron, shot on goal right in front of him allowing him to make up for his boner.

Hoffmann (3): Generous. A better team would have sliced him apart on the right wing defense.

Ghvinianidze (4): Would have given him a 3 myself. He was solid. He was left to look worse than normal due to the OG and the fact Bender did not come back to cover the middle a few times making the central D look bad.

Beda (3): Good game I thought for a newcomer. Unlucky to have the second goal called back. Proper call I think BUT if you call back his goal you HAVE TO call back the SCF second goal where the striker pushes Mate into the ball that goes in off of him.

Johnson (4): Not his best game. Abused on the left wing. Better on the right.

L. Bender (3): Did not get back enough. Generous ranking.

Ledgerwood (4): Harsh I think. Defensively he was a birght spot for midfield. Lacked the ideas forward. Seems pensive going up.

D. Schwarz (3): VERY generous. He simply was not there. I had to actually LOOK to see if he was on the pitch. I swear it was 40 mins before the announcer called his name.

Bierofka (3.5): MOTM for my money. That does not mean much given everyone was pretty average to below. Team effort I would have to give a 4.

Kucukovic (4): Good lord! Except for the one time he actually chested a ball down in the box and had a decent attempt on goal, he was like a fish out of water. Beter than last year, but still very off for a striker.

Lauth (3): Honestly, and I am not one for gratuitous platitudes, I think he was good. True on the ball he was average. But off the ball if you watch the game he REALLY, REALLY hustled. He ran after every pass in their half trying to pressure the defender and not give them time to set forward. Had some wonderful touches with other players on the side to get the ball out of trouble. Was in SPACES where a more creative team SHOULD HAVE played the ball. The goal was a thing of beauty: hail mary chip which he took first time, cross body to the corner.

Biggest issues why we lost:

Lost too many 50/50 balls
Scores of failed passes which were intercepted
Lack of creativity in central mid
Central defense was not bolstered by defending mid
Played off the attackers WAY too far in defensive third
Wings, after the first 18 minutes, were getting schooled and abused
Failure to finish close in (Kusuckovic) and to challenge well from distance (everyone).
Referee: consistent for 99% of the match, but inconsistent with the two calls related to goals. In fact, the first goal scored by SCF was actually a foul which should have been whisteld on their attacker on Beda for charging. He fell as a result, Beda was trying to help him up thinking the whistle had gone, ball still in play falls to another srtiker who pops it in. The fallen player was just enough in the way as to be a distraction to Tschauner. Should not have counted for a few good reasons.
That said, did 1860 deserve to win? No! Did SCF? Not really, though they did play better and more inspired. They do not look like an Aufsteigs candidate to me. They looked marginally better than 1860. Thuerker was good and should do well for them once he settles in.

Great analysis.

I wonder if when Göktan comes back from his cold would he fit in at #10 and get the ball to Benny in those spaces? Or would he be better utilized replacing Kucukovic at striker??

2-1 loss on the road isn't a big surprise, but let's see what the guys can do back at home.

I know I'd rather keep Ku-SUCK-ovic at striker and put Göktan behind him and Lauth.

I make fun of Ku-SUCK-ovic, but I actually think he will come good and do better than diSalvo.

And that midfield needs more of an offensive threat than just Bierofka.

The match against Mainz won't be easy. They will be hot to make up points after blowing that 3 goal lead to Kaiserslautern at home this past weekend......
