Kurz has picked his number #1 keeper (http://www.tsv1860.de/de/aktuell/news/2008/news_2008-08-04_tschauner.php) for the upcoming season. Surprise, surprise its Tschauner. I certainly hope his bonehead days are over. He really needs to step up his game to fill Hofmann's shoes. Not that Michi was an Oliver Kahn, but he was always pretty consistent.

Noooooooo!

No big surprise, as I'm not sure Michi can take the weekly grind anymore. Should be interesting, though.

I'm digging the 4-1-2-1-2, it should lead to more offense. I'd prefer the old 3-5-2 myself, but Lorant isn't coming back anytime soon. :p

Good to see Mate G. healthy and back on the field. How's Eberlein doing in camp so far?

Dunno. He seems squarely in the U23s for now, but we shall see.

Daniel Bierofka was made captain of 1860. I think this is a GREAT move. Cannot think of anyone else beside Berhalter who could pull it off. The fact he is an old Loewe makes his presence even more felt. German article here (http://www.tsv1860.de/de/aktuell/news/2008/news_2008-08-07_kapitaen.php).

Good move by 1860. There really was no other option worth considering.

Is it just me, or is there a feeling in the air that die Löwen can make a run to promotion this term?

Yeah there was. It's just that Bierofka is probably the best choice.

They CAN, but they would need a perfect season. I don't see it happening, but this is football.

Anything can happen......

It is just that they started out so strong last term, only to slide terribly in the second half. Here's to hoping!

That is a usual occurrence. LoewenBoy called it well before it happened.

His finger is clearly on the pulse of the side. I am working on that.

Now, if only TSV 1861 Straubing can make a push to do anything. LOL

Here are your Budweiser Keys to Victory:

Health: 1860 needs to stay healthy in key positions. Central defense is a light area. Beda and Ghvinianidze need to stay fit and play well. There are many options at outside defense, so the key is a healthy central defense. Playmakers Bierofka, Goektan and Danny Schwarz must be healthy and on form. Without them 1860 has few options for attack.
Goals: Simply put the strikers must score. Lauth, DiSalvo, Holebas, and Kusuckovic MUST score. If each players has 4-5 goals by January the team will be in good shape. I am reminded of a quote: "A good friend of mine used to say, 'This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you kick the ball, you head the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains.' Think about that for a while."

Keeper: Tschauner needs to step up. If he can avoid the silly goofs he has made in the past 1860 can stay competitive. Good news is we have Hofmann as a back-up.

Club: The politics of the club HAS TO end. The silly end-fighting that happens EVERY DAMN YEAR within the fan groups that are very, very divided needs to end for the good of the club. Reuter should be elected emperor and give free reign to do whatever the hell he wants. He is building a VERY solid club.

Minus 20 Karma Points for your careless mention of Budweiser... Shame on you.

Loewenbraeu, perhaps? Augustiner?

Honestly, those are a lot of "if's", but then again, the same can be said for just about any side in any country. It CAN happen. Things just have to fall into place.

I am still considering paying in to watch the 1860 matches. I would like to do it, but I just don't know..

Maybe he was talking about the real Budweiser, from you know, Budweis in the Czech Republic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budweis). ;)

Absolutely. The best "Bud" there is.

Well, most originals are better than the knockoffs.

Well, most originals are better than the knockoffs.
Agreed:

Sean Connery better than Roger Moore
Grass better than turf
Wood better than metal
German beer better than American beer
First Star Wars trilogy better then the second trilogy
Any first movie that had a sequel
Galloping Gourmet better than Iron Chef
Greek literature better than Roman literature
1860 better than Bayern :D
And that's my short list of originals that are better than their knock-offs.

Not sure if it will be on LoewenTV but am hoping it will. Below is the projected line-up. Basically, if you do not see a player listed they are either on rest or rehabing an injury. Most notably missing is Goektan listed as rehabing with Schroth. Must have picked something up. Thorandt and Benny Schwarz are sitting out for the reds the picked up in the highway robber match against Bayern in the 1/4 Finals last spring. Honestly, this line-up is trong enough to walk over TSG Neustrelitz....but in Cup matches you just never, ever know. My tipp: 1860 4-1 TSG Neustrelitz.

1860: 12 Tschauner - 4 Hoffmann, 19 Ghvinianidze, 6 Beda, 33 Johnson - 25 Ledgerwood - 26 Baumgartlinger, 7 Bierofka - 8 D. Schwarz - 9 Di Salvo, 11 Lauth.

Ersatz: 1 Hofmann (Tor) - 5 Berhalter, 14 Holebas, 20 Burkhard, 24 Kucukovic, 27 Schäffler, 28 Eberlein.

P.S.

Bibiana Steinhaus will referee the match. Best female referee Germany has.
Press videos here (http://www.eyep.tv/2.-liga--rl/tsv-1860-munchen/). 1860-FCK highligh footage there too.

I'm going to argue that The Dark Knight trumps Batman Begins. Have you seen it? It's freakin' phenomenal, one of the best movies I've ever seen. Not that BB was bad. I'd also argue that Empire Strikes Back is better than Star Wars. ;)

Yeah, I move that you strike what I quoted from your list, I can think of a lot of exceptions. And not all American beer is bad. The mainstream, heavily marketed crap is for the most part. But smaller/micro breweries make some fine stuff.

There was another Batman movie after Michael Keaton's?;)

I'd also argue that Empire Strikes Back is better than Star Wars.
Hence why I went with trilogies.

And not all American beer is bad.
Agreed. But since we are talking originals versus knockoffs, I would have to classify American beer en masse as knockoffs. Why? The major breweries do not follow the Rheinheitsgebot. Anyone who uses adjuncts (except the Belgians) make shiite beer.

The mainstream, heavily marketed crap is for the most part.
Cannot think of one that I would use to baste dogs crap with. They are all spit.

But smaller/micro breweries make some fine stuff.
I do not classify them as american breweries. Yes I know, that's quibbling, but they are more likely to follow German or Belgian brewing practices and, for my skewed purposes, are not classified as "american". See how situational ethics can help you win arguments?

Actually, one of the best Bavarian Weissbiers I have ever had came from Texas... Live Oak, to be precise. My goodness how I miss Bavaria.

I need to get over there soon. I am just not sure when (perhaps March, perhaps later). I want to visit the 1860 facility while I am there.
