Really? He makes less than 80k a year? Is that MLS just trying to get a transfer fee? No wonder the other clubs have stalled their interest. I would take him on trial but not sure I would sign him unless he produced. When is his contract up? Perhaps we could get him then?
BTW, I sent a not to 1860's scouting team on him. Doubt they will listen but.....
MLS doesn't care about the salary, only the fee. Dallas might sell him in the winter break, depending on how it goes. He wants max salary, and deservedly so.
MLS has an option on him for two more years.

Given how crappy the team has played I wonder if the club will sell him since he is the ONLY bright spot on that dismal team.
MLS has an option on him for two more years.
He won't wait. His stock is high and he needs to go overseas now, if ever. Since he dad is English he does not need a work permit does he? At any rate, I doubt 1860 would pay that much for an "unproven" entity. The stigma of not having played significantly overseas is still a big obstacle to overcome in many minds. We know he would be good at 1860, but Reuter would need to see it.
On another note, I continue to be amazed at the callings for Reuter Raus as a result of the Goektan issue. Its not like he was doing lines with the man. Shiite, fans sometimes really piss me off.

The option is MLS', they will surely accept. His agent is Lyle Yorks, who basically drops all his boys at Fulham.

Like I said, he was clean for 18 months prior and then popped positive recently. Depression from the injury and the "exhaustion" syndrome?
Okay, the grassy knoll conspiracy theorist in me says this:
(Note, the following is PURE conjection and paranoia on my part...ABSOLUTELY no truth in the following words AT ALL...)
Goektan picks up an injury this summer and perhaps slips into a depression, starts using coke.
He pops up positive for cocaine during a screening for his injury.
To cover the drug use 1860 diagnoses him with "exhaustion syndrome" and makes him to to therapy to get ride of the drug use.
Goektan attends sessions since early August but 1860 management gets reports that no progress is being made OR he pops positive again.
1860 mgmt sits down with Goektan to discuss how to make positive steps towards recovery and he denies there is a problem or something like that.
This forces 1860 to say that help was denied and he is fired.
Anyway, just my hypothetical as to why someone would be so stupid. The truth is always FAR more entertaining though.;)
Shit, I can go with everything you said.......

Well, he is a McBride-style striker.....I can see why.

I think he's got more versatility than B'Mac, but I'm pretty sure he's been rated in England already.

You might have been kidding, but that's my pain. I've become intolerant of fans who won't simply apply common sense to the game.
But that's partially my problem too. I love it so much, so I take it too seriously at times. :o

Well, I have felt the full range of emotions. I have gone from shocked, to dissappointed, to angry, to pissed. Why?
First, seems the fans (at least some fans) are trying to put this on Reuter! Basically they are saying that Reuter could have done more to keep Goektan, that "people are human" and mistakes get made and that is no reason to fire a guy. Holy Crap!!!! Reuter OFFERED to help and keep him under contract as long as he sought help WITH the club and not on his own. It's in his contract!!!! And yet, knowing all of this, Goektan said no!!!??? How the F is this Reuter's fault?
Second, if you watch the interviews on www.eyep-tv.de (http://www.eyep-tv.de) it seems the media is putting this back on the club as well. "How can this happen?" "Why not give him another chance?" "Why get rid of him?" It seems that the German press and some of the 1860 fans have taken a page out of Bill Clinton's Guide To Avoiding Personal Responsibility and are putting this back on ANYONE else other the Berkant Goektan. Unbelievable. INCONCEIVABLE!!!

That may not be very far from the truth. Even before this week I thought the "chronic exhaustion syndrome" was a bit fishy...
Well since it looks like we're stuck on any new players until January, is there any sleeper kid in the II-team that we haven't called up yet who can even remotely do a passable job in the midfield?
And for the idiots calling for Reuter's ouster, this is professional football with it's stringent anti-doping regulations. If it were my cousin Mike playing amateur soccer with a coke problem, I could see letting things go as they are, but Reuter needs to follow strict guidelines or 1860's license is in danger.

A few thoughts:
The "locals" as saying that 1860 scouts are looking at Christian Tieffert (http://www.fussballdaten.de/spieler/tiffertchristian/) or Thomas Broich (http://www.fussballdaten.de/spieler/broichthomas/), the latter having his own website (http://www.thomas-broich.de/). I am always weary about guys who have their own website who do not play for Bayern or another big club (see: Benny Lauth (http://www.benny-lauth.de/)). Tiffert is under contract until 2010, Broich is up in June. Tiffert has seen ZERO action this season, while Broich has seen 4 games at Koeln. Not sure what either would bring to 1860 other than "experience".
Honestly, as pure midfielders I am not sure we need a young kid in their, but rather someone more experienced. Gebhart has the top spot in the diamond down for now. My guess is Beda will secure the bottom role in the diamond until he f's up royally or gets injured. Sven has one wing down leaving the other open. I think Bamugartlinger or Ledgerwood will be vyying for that.
Who fills the bench you may ask? Here are my thoughts: Burkhard comes up as he has speed and can play both defense and offense. If Thorandt does not play defense, he would be my choice for a midfielder with experience. Holebas? I was hot on him for a while but he has done nothing lately of interest. From the U23s Marz (http://www.tsv1860.de/de/teams/spieler/2008/jonas-marz.php), Leist (http://www.tsv1860.de/de/teams/spieler/2008/julian-leist.php), Schick (http://www.tsv1860.de/de/teams/spieler/2008/michael-schick.php) and Knauer (http://www.tsv1860.de/de/teams/spieler/2008/maximilian-knauer.php) have been give call-ups in tests. Marz and Leist most consistently. Lastly, there are VERY few players on the U23 team that have contracts beyond 2009. Anyone would be interested in stepping into a role either on the first team or second.
True, but examples have been pointed out of other pro figures in Germany who have popped positive and still held on to their careers. I do not know the specific cases they cite, but my guess is these guys either 1) got help through their club or 2) did not have a clause in their contract stating that club help is required if you come up positive for drug use as a term of employment. I think Reuter was more than fair. Hell, the more I read on teh German boards the more I wonder exactly how sane the average 1860 fan who posts on loewenforum.de really is.

I like Broich, but I think his level may be BII and not the I. He would be great for you guys and he's from Bavaria.

And you guys are spot on about the drug thing! LOL!!

I believe his contract is up in June (http://www.transfermarkt.de/de/spieler/1762/thomasbroich/profil.html), so he can go then on a free. Does 1860 wait and court him then or do they negotiate a small fee for a winter transfer? I think much depends on table position and injury recoveries between now and Sylvester.

Keith sent me a PM that the Bavaraian State prosecutor will be looking into Berki's coke use to see if any laws were broken. The DFB has already ruled that since Goektan did not play in any games this season that no points or fines would be imposed on the club. Kurz has flat out said that "As long as I am coach, his return is not an issue", meaning Berki has played his last for 1860 under Kurz. Kurz is quoted saying: "The facts are a incomprehensible. After such actions such a player no longer viable on the pitch. He has taken out trust and trampled it, he has left the team and the club in the rain, and can no longer return. He must now get a grip on his life, because it is more valuable than any activity in sports. It is a life or death decision for him. And, therefore, I wish him all the best! The Göktan era at 1860 is now closed."

If feasible, go for the winter transfer.....

Again, I feel for the guy and the club, but as a Sechzig fan, I'm putting him behind me. For the club, life goes on and new challenges simply must be overcome.

Nothing a few Captain Morgans and Coke (the beverage, not the powder) won't cure.
