Me neither. He is average at best. But, he is usually CONSISTENTLY average, which is more than you can say about a lot of players.

Yep. Including a lot of players who've suited up for Sechzig...... ;)

Yeah, I agree. But it is a HELLUVA large amount of money to spend on a retirement program for Alte Loewen. I cannot think of another team right now that has spent SOOOO much on players who have not set foot on the pitch for them as 1860. If Reuter & Co. have a soft spot, this is it.

How much of that do you think might be fan appeasement???

Remember the battles we had here last season over Tyce and Czerny? Well, not you and I, but "Lionhead" (where is he anyhow?) and both of us.

At least in my opinion, it was always about what the fans wanted against what was more practical.

I wonder how much of those signings was Reuter and Ziffzer trying to use nostalgia to put more asses in the seats??

But....how much does something like this effect who CURRENT players feel about the club and willingness to stay (or come back)? That is the sort of intangible that no one knows.

Well, when I think of the better players who have left, I don't think it had much to do with it at all.

I think they saw better sporting opportunities and more money at other clubs.

I don't think they were wrong either.

Damn....bad news!! Bierofka (http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/2bundesliga/startseite/artikel/384097/) is out for the rest of the round. He has had back problems for a while. I think it was after that rough challenge back in week #2 where he was up-ended on his back from a header challenge. The article says he is out for the "the rest of the year", which I can only assume means 2008, not the 08/09 season. English version here (http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kicker.de%2Fnews%2Ffussball%2F2bundesliga%2Fstartseite%2Fartikel%2F384097%2F&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&sl=de&tl=en). In case anyone is counting, now officially ALL of our big money or experienced signings (Schroth, Goektan, Bierofka, Hofmann and Schwarz) are all injured. Lovely.:o

So, who gets the captain's arm band? My money is on Berhalter. Especially given that the only other "experienced" players on the pitch are Beda (too new) and Lauth (not leader material IMHO).

So, what do our midfielder options look like:

S. Bender - Beda - L. Bender - Gebhart

Other players include Ledgerwood, Baumgartlinger, but I would not put it past Kurz to move someone like Torben Hofmann or even Thorandt into midfield to add some experience in there. Beda just is not impressing. I think Holebas might also be used there on the wing.

Well, we are going to see just how good the youngsters are. And if ANYONE ever doubted just how good a coach Kurz is they should look at the state of our team right now. I would doubt ANY coach could do better under such conditions.

Wow. I don't agree on your Kurz assessment of doubting anyone can do better, but all I can say is "Wow......"

Ok, well clearly I don't mean "anyone". I mean "anyone 1860 can afford".:D Clearly guys like Hitzfeld, Ragnick, and others could likely get more out of this team. But 1860 cannot afford guys like this.

To be honest, I am interested to see how this plays out. If....big if....the "kids" can perform and get results, 1860 might be able to get them to re-sign with the club with the promise that they are the heirs-apparent. Kurz is a good motivator and I am sure he is telling these kids that this is their chance to really shine. I hope the pressure is not too much for them.

On the plus side, not to be cruel, but Reisinger injured himself and is out for the 1860-Fuerth match. As an ex-Loewe and given the way he was tossed out by Schachner (being told he was old and baggage), he is unusually motivated whenever he plays 1860.

I plan on grabbin a few Weissbier and sitting down Sunday glued to the PC to watch this match!!!!

I don't even mean those guys. Look at what Thorsten Fink is doing up in Ingolstadt. He doesn't have a team that's much better than a decimated 1860 squad, but Fink does a great job tactically in putting his team in a position to win points by out-fighting more talented teams.

I'm sorry man, if that 1860 team fought harder, they'd be doing even better than they are.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that Kurz is a bad coach. I just don't think he's as good as you're making him out to be.

Not yet anyhow. He is improving.

As a coach, he's still on the same level as some of his young players.

Fink has the advantage of having coached under Trappatoni at Salzburg too.

Well, the flip side of that is if the kids do carry the club, there are so many of them out of contract after this season, bigger and richer clubs will be looking to sign them for next season as early as January.

Here is the stated line-up for Sunday. As suspected, Berhalter, Beda and Lauth are the only people who were actually alive when Wang Chung's "Everybody Have Fun Tonight" was at #1.

Fuerth is not going to hold back. They are going to attack hard and often. This should be a good match. If Die Jungs (the boys) can hold together and show well, even a point against this team is a good thing. But I think this young team feels they can take max points, provided they play smart.

Just for giggles, here is the injured list: 4 Hoffmann (Muskelfaserriss), 7 Bierofka (Bandscheiben-OP), 8 D. Schwarz (OP am Außenmeninskus), 10 Göktan (Aufbautraining nach Fuß-OP), 21 Schroth (Aufbautraining nach Knie-OP), 24 Kucukovic (Trainingsrückstand nach OP), 29 Krauss (3. TW).

Article on Baumgartlinger (http://www.transfermarkt.at/de/news/23761/14102008_18_00/news/anzeigen.html) and how he is not happy with his position at 1860. Was expecting a bit more playing time. That is tough when you are competing against the likes of the Benders, Gebhart and Ledgerwood...not to mention Goektan, Bierofka and others. To be honest, while he has done well for the Austrian national teams, he has not been all that impressive in club play. His contract is up next summer. My guess is he is gone unless he get more consistent play. He wants to start for sure.

Do you maybe have a livestream link for the game?

Unfortunately I didn't manage to make the trip to Munich once again (like last season).

A fantastic effort from 1860. The second half was a complete turnaround from the first. Sechzig pressed forward, played generally well at the back, and their youth really showed out.

The youth is no more evident than at the end, which the Loewen danced around before the fans. They seemed like a bunch of children, playing. I cannot help but enjoy seeing that.

There is still work to be done, but for today... Well done.

I do, but unfortunately it is the paid streem I get from LoewenTV. I have not see a free link that works. I am staying away from reading anything until the link is made live. It usually goes live 15 mins after the end of the game. :D Then I relax, grab a Weissbier and watch in the comfort of my easy chair. Ah, the Internet....it brings porn and soccer to me without leaving my house. If only they could find a way to deliver virtual bier and drive my kids to school.:o

Congrats on finally winning against Fürth at Allianz-Arena. ;)

Fürth wasted lots of chances to score the 2:0 after the interval ... and got punished for that (everybody knows that they can't hold a 1:0 lead with their shaky defence).

What a comeback from Lauth!

I disagree. I think the first half was fairly even. They played well, just a few steps off the final finishing. The goal was yet ANOTHER gift from Markus Thorandt. He just gets sucked too far on the wing and leaves the middle open. Lars did not cover for him, nor did Beda, and Berhalter was left to mark two guys. Credit to Fuerth, they exploited this just fine.

Great to see. This team set another record for the youngest team ever for 1860. Lovely to see Ledgerwood in and he played well. Takyi's tackle was just wrong. He was late and it was the third or fourth time in a 10 min period. But you are right, they celebrated like kids. Well, they are. There was a cool quote from Gregg Berhalter about how he and the "older" players are playing better because they have to keep up with the young guys. they just have sooo much energy.

There is still work to be done, but for today... Well done.
True, but this was an unexpected 3 points against a very tough team. I would have taken a point, but 3 is more than expected. I think Fuerth was just unlucky and too slow for a goo 10 mins there where they lost it. Other than that I thought a relatively even match.

Lauth's first goal was very, very cheeky. He looked Schaeffler into the middle and the Fuerth keeper overcommitted, then Lauth cooly second-touched it into the net. Next goal from him was similar but he simply blasted it in.

Enjoyed the match, but to be sure I felt like chucking it in after the Fuerth goal thinking, "oh, great....another 1860 debakel". Pleasantly surprised.

Now off to teach Cub Scouts how not to burn down their tents.;)

Yeah, Had Schruck (sp?) connected on that cross in the second half to make it 1-2 I think it would have swung the other way. Honestly thought it was much closer than 3-1. Fuerth just lost it for a 10 min period where 1860 punished them. That does not happen often for this team.

DiSalvo really should have made it 4-1 toward the end.;) But when he is 1v1 few keepers quake in their boots.:D

Takyi had a serious of dubious challenges yesterday and his last one on Bender seriously put the kid in pain. It sounds like the anterior ligaments that connect the ankle to the leg. He will be out past the winter break. Good thing he is young. Had this in college in '82 during the off season and it took 6 weeks or more to get back to training, another 4 weeks for match strength. Watch for Baumgartlinger to get his wish for more playing time.
The Rasen Girl voting continues with possibly the most depressing collection (http://www.tsv1860.de/de/loewenfans/rasenhasen/votings/2008//04_fuerth.php) of girls thus far.
The II's drew 2:2 at home against 'haching. Just like last year, with the pros being decimated by injuries the IIs are sending their players to the pro bench and taking a hit in their league.

Ugh. The injury bug sure is biting us this season. Lars is the better of the twins, correct? Hopefully Baumgartlinger is as good on the field as his mouth would lead us to believe...

Also, in the Rasen Girl thing, Marleen's actually kinda cute, but they'd probably lock me away for saying so. :D

Sucks about Lars Bender. I guess this will give his brother and Nik Ledgerwood their chances to shine.

I was very happy to see Benny Lauth finally get off the schneid.

Hopefully, this will restore his confidence and he'll start banging them in.

Not really. Sven is already in the starting line-up since Biero is out. Now with Lars out I think you see either Ledgerwood or Baumgartlinger in there. But, they are two totally different players. Baumgartlinger is an offensive player with little clue on defense. Nicky is a bit of both worlds, a hard challenger and a bit more conservative. My bet is Nicky gets the nod at first.

Clearly that is the Viagra he needed. And they were good goals too.
