I don't know why you're lowering expectations, but I will say if they go in there thinking the way you are, they're already beaten.
I meantion the other guys because it shows lack of depth if injuries result. and when you cannot win at home against Ingolstadt it is hard to see them winning on the road against FSV who are strong at home.
1-1 or 0-0 is my guess.

Not to spoil the result for anyone who has not watched the match yet... But wow, just WOW...

You can look at the result and say that. I watched the match. They are improving, yes, but the competition wasn't very good either.
I was surprised by that.

I watched a good bit of the match, thanks to Premiere, and I was impressed with the effort overall. Johnson was very important, scoring the first and setting up the second.
Sure, a ways to go, but a good win against a team that Sechzig was supposed to defeat.

I was wrong but that game favored us big time. One Tschauner "patzer" more, or the missed PK mugging by Berhalter or the other near misses in the mid-first half and that is a totally different ball game. I don't think the team played any different than they did in our earlier losses. Its just the ball (and calls) bounced almost totally our way.

The goals were good, but what was fun to see was this team -- the youngest team that 1860 has EVER fielded -- took it to FSV from the first whistle. The first 20 mins was solid 1860 on attack. The last 15-20 mins was mostly FSV on attack. After the restart, 1860 could have made it 4-0 or more BUT there were two missed PK calls (one on Berhalter and one on Bender) which could have changed the whole face of the game.

They were not great but they were not totally sucky. They were VERY unlucky on the first and third goal. They just fell apart after the first goal and the young kids smelled blood. Hell, with the exception of Berhalter, Beda and Lauth, the rest of the players on the pitch were ALL under 21!!!!

Hell....ANY win is a good win. An auswartsieg is particularly tasty.
Well, off to celebrate 16 years of imprisonment...er, ah....wedded bliss.

Tschauner (3): I actually would ahve gone with a 4. Yes, he had a clean sheet but he made at least 2 bad distribution decisions which almost came back to haunt him. Other teams would have made him pay. He was lucky.
Johnson (2,5): Yes, and MoM honors from my perspective. He was all over the place this weekend.
Ghvinianidze (2,5): Very good game. He was solid in defense, but more so in helping to cover the wings and defensive midfield. More games like this I would like to see.
Berhalter (2,5): I don 't think he lost a challenge. I would say that he was defensive MoM and arguably the overall MoM for me. Gregg kept 1860 in this one all the way.,
B. Schwarz (3,5): Average game from him. Not his best but not bad. Solid.
Beda (3,5): I actually think this is unfair a bit. Yes, he was not great but he was solid and had not obvious boners. He shut down the middle giving Lars the room he needed to work.
S. Bender (4): He was solid but nothing outstanding. I would have said 3.
Gebhart (3): He was a bit lazy after teh 70th, but he was instrumental to making this game go our way.
L. Bender (3): I would have given him a 2,5 as this was by far his best game yet.
Schäffler (5): Agree, he was no where. Made too many bad passes to Lauth. Clearly they are working their style out.
Lauth (5): I think this is too tough. The ball did not get to him often which was more a function of poor passing than his poor positioning.
One important thing to note are the subs Kurz brought on. He did not go defensive up 3-0 away, rather he put in DiSalvo, Holebas and Kusuckovic to keep the pressure on. While many might think this a serious blunder the fresh offensive legs, when you have such young legs in back of you, was a good thing.
Also of note was that this was the first time the Benders went a full 90 rather then half that. Overall everyone held up well.

If there was ever a bad time for an international break, it might be now. Another match in 2.BL could be just what Die Löwen need to start gaining some points in the table!

Actually, I think this is perfect. A few of the players picked up dings they need to heal. Kurz has spoken with Hrubesch about some fot he call ups and he has agreed to not call up many of the "usual" guys from 1860 as they are now considered "stammspieler" for 1860. Jungwirth (U20), Baumgartlinger (U21-Austria) and Ghiviadniaze (full Georgian international) are being called up. The Benders, Gebhart, Schaeffler and Benny Schwarz have all been give "passes" this round, although they were wanted. Shows the connections 1860 has with these coaches and the give/take they enjoy.

In fact, here is Lars' response to the importance of the last international break...
...I think, important for all of us, was the last international match break. We had two weeks time so the coach was able to work with us alot on fine-tuning. And we were able to massively improve and adhere to the basic virtues that we now show. It is because a jolt went through the team. That we have a strong commitment to the trainer, that is truly clear.

Sure, I can see that side too.
I have to say, and I know it was only Frankfurt - a side they had to defeat - but I took a lot of positives from it. I am not saying a run to promotion is immediately going to happen, but it is a little bit of positivity when 1860 desparately needed it in many ways.

As an aside, I really want one of those 1860 shirts with the Hacker-Pschorr logo on it. I know, I know. It is impossible to get them since they are not the main club's shirt. Just putting it out there...

Actually, they will do that for any club who asks.......
1860 doesn't have any "special" relationship with the DFB coaching staffs.

Not a great draw for 1860 in the German Cup, having to travel to Hamburg. But there is a long time between now and then.

What are you suggesting? That HSV might suffer some kind of tragic medical epidemic by then?? :D

They are due for a rut. We plan to send them Zorc on holiday during the Xmas break so as to start an epidemic of mediocrity so 1860 has a better chance of winning.:D

That big of "rut?" I don't think so. ;)
Seriously, I think 1860 would have a hard time with HSV II right now and I don't see THAT much changing between now and January.
Hell, HSV might get BETTER as they haven't ruled out winter purchases!
If this match was going to be at the Allianz Arena, I would feel better about Sechzig's chances.
But right now, I feel their chances are worse than a snowball's chance in hell.........
Then again, maybe HSV will be arrogant enough to trot HSV II out there! LMAO!! :D

And as Darth Vader said, "That will be their undoing."
I LOVE the fact we have HSV. They are hot, they are top of the table, they are beating very good teams, and therefore there is ZERO expectation on 1860. What a great position to be in. HSV just very well might be OVER concentrating on winning the league and may leave the Cup ties as "nice to haves" rather than imperative. I think they want CL ball next season and will concentrate like hell to keep that dream alive.
Head-2-head HSV wins. But...if they are still in the hunt for the UEFA Cup AND still in the hunt for the Meister, I will wager they give the DFB Cup draw less attention and jsut might be depleated enough for 1860 to take them.

Call me naive, but I could also see this Sechzig club continuing to develop and grow into a side that could spoil some seasons for others before the term is over. It is not that HSV would have to overlook Sechzig, but rather 1860 may continue to develop on the pitch moreso than they may have thought.
Just putting that out there...
