Watching the match on DSF. 1860 leads 1-0 at halftime. Bierofka goal in the 29th minute. However, they are lucky to still be up.
The central defense has been HORRIBLE at times tonight.
I hope they can score first in the second half. They need a second goal.
Oh and tonight, I haven't been able to tell the difference between Lauth and
Ku-SUCK-ovic.......

Wow, a Sparta Rotterdam lady interested in the 2 Bundesliga! :)
Btw: It looks good for 1860 at half-time (1:0 lead thanks to a Bierofka header goal).
Haha :)
There is actually a link between Sparta and 1860. Wonder if you can find it.
Visited the home match against Osnabrück btw last season. I was surprised by what I saw, I found the match much more entertaining than most matches I see at Sparta, even when we play against the top of the league. At least there was something happening and judging by the sounds around me it wasn't appreciated as a good match. Wonder how a top 2nd bundesliga match is.

Given 1860's current situation, any win is a good win... Well done.

Yep. They came out and fought for the victory in the second half. But I wonder if Kurz made the "match deciding" substitution because he was forced to, not because he wanted to.
He was going to bring Schaeffler on, which he eventually did for a sorry Antonio diSalvo, but first had to bring in Gebhart for an injured Lars Bender.
On the second goal, Lauth failed due to a great stop by Duisburg keeper Starke during a one-on-one battle between the two, but Gebhart was where he needed to be to put in the rebound.
Not "impressive" at all, but like you said, given the current situation any win is a good win.
I usually NEVER agree with that, but in this case, I certainly can. :D
I'm going to have a couple of beers before bed to celebrate!!

Kurz seems quite combative with the DSF interviewer. Especially about Gebhart.
I don't think Kurz wanted to bring him in.
I don't know what's going on there, but Kurz acted like one of those guys who is going to lose his job soon and is just pissed off with everyone.
Especially because it seems his team just won despite him, not because of him.
Let's hope I just misinterpreted what I just saw and hard.

He has been combative for three weeks now. Nothing new.
I don't think Kurz wanted to bring him in.
Sure he did, just not as early. Lars is always subbed around the 50th. Its like clock work. Hell, Sven was subbed about 10 minutes earlier than I had predicted with Ledgerwood. I think he subbed just about when he wanted to.
I don't know what's going on there, but Kurz acted like one of those guys who is going to lose his job soon and is just pissed off with everyone.
Yeah, again he has been like that for three weeks. Every interview he has seemed aloof and pissed off. I think the stress of the situation and, frankly, I think he is dumb-founded why they are not better than they are now.
Especially because it seems his team just won despite him, not because of him.
What the heck does that mean? Kurz is the one who put the formation together. Changed tactics. Developed the training program. They win as a team and lose as a team. I find Kurz every much at fault with the three losses as I do with his success with today's win. I cannot seperate the two unless there are obvious reasons why a team won/lost (i.e, obvious individual boners that lead to goals, etc.).
Today MSV looked weak. They had rough 5 good chances on goal which Tschauner either savedk defense cleared or were pooched. 1860 had a few good chances as well. For a team snake-bit and finding form, I think it was a damn good game. Here's why:
Wings: They moved the ball very well down the wings. They kept the back busy thinking about flanking moves and that opened up the middle for a change.
Strikers: If you noticed, Lauth and DiSalvo were coming back to the sides to assist on building the counters. This is an old, old style of play made famous by the Hungarians in the 50s. Veyr old school but does wonders in keeping palyers off keel. Sure Lauth and DiSalvo did not have superb matches on the ball, but off the ball their movements were key to opening up space and keeping the MSV defense on their toes.
Central mid: Many counters came from central mid, went wide then forward. They were not left reeling from the counter-attack and struggling to defend; rather they were able to have room in the middle to move up and out. MSV should have shut that down.
Central D: Weak. Berhalter lucky not to have seen yellow and given up a few kicks outside the area. Mate was ok.
Wing D: Very good. Thorandt and Schwarz were the difference today.
I think you are not giving Kurz enough credit today. He threw out his old system, made good chances to his line-up....which was VERY similar to the line-up in the first game. Coincidence? :D
BTW, if you check the line-up it is eerily close to what I suggested. Perhaps when 1860 fires Kurz they will hire me? Sure I only have a UEFA C License, but I am willing to sit for my A License.

Actually I can think of a few:
The most obvious is Gregg Berhalter played for Sparta back when he was a young player. I think two seasons.
Sparta was the first professional team in Holland, like 1860 was the first sports club in Bavaria....I think in Germany too.
We both got relegated from the first division in the same year (2003), though you guys made it back up recently. 1860 not.
Lastly...we both have damn nice kits!!!! Though the dude on the right looks like the guy from the German childhood stories of Max und Moritz.

On the 1860 website over the weekend, Captain Bierofka posted a statement on behalf of the players to the fans. It read something like this:
For the home match against MSV Duisburg it was up to me as team captain to offer a few heartfelt words for our fans.
First of all, a warm "Hello" to our guests from Duisburg, we have a good week after the league game before our next meeting in the DFB Cup. I wish our two teams good sportsmanship and interesting games. However, I will tell you that we hope to make things as your opponent unpleasant and difficult.
Against the MSV we are just players. With the results of the season to date, none of us are satisfied. With your support, against Duisburg, we want silence all the talk of discord and to let our fans have a reason to celebrate another season.
Right now we are all one team, fans and players. The Loewen have always been a club of incredible cohesion. This relationship was one reason why I decided on returning to TSV 1860.
Therefore, I ask all of you: Support the team and our coach at the home game against MSV Duisburg and also the week that the DFB Cup.
We will continue our obligation on the pitch to fight and bite like lions. To achieve this, of course, we need you. Shout us on to victory against MSV, with the entire crowd behind the team. Together we will from rise out of our current situation and strengthen in the coming weeks to get back on track.

Correct. Although he actually didn't play much due to injuries (almost the whole period).
I was actually going for this obvious one, but now you've got me started.
Sparta was the first professional team in Holland, like 1860 was the first sports club in Bavaria....I think in Germany too.
Not sure if we're the first professional team in terms of paying our players. At least Sparta is the oldest in professional soccer over here. Only 2 amateur clubs are older.
We both got relegated from the first division in the same year (2003), though you guys made it back up recently. 1860 not.
Wrong, we relegated in 2002. After the first season with our great coach Frank Rijkaard.
We went back up in 2005.
Lastly...we both have damn nice kits!!!! Though the dude on the right looks like the guy from the German childhood stories of Max und Moritz.

True, they're very nice. Although our kit doesn't change so drastically as it does with kids in Germany. This year 1860 has a really cool kit with the lion on the front.
The dude on the right is Nathan Rutjes. He is sort of a cult figure at our club because of his hair.
You forgot:
Being 2nd teams of the city
Seem to be having more fans from the city and surroundings instead of the whole country instead of the other way around
Having similair fan "slogans" (A real Rotterdammer is a Spartaan / Ein echte Münchener ist ein Segziger)

I really need to consider getting the Sechzig matches online like LoewenBoy. Part of having a hard time following them is really two-fold: one, my poor German language skills and, two, not being able to see the matches.
My family would be proud if I did...

Solid win so you have to be somewhat optimistic (well, the schedule gets easier for a bit). Anyway, a nice win.
This is just a completely random:) movie (maybe we should have a caption contest):

Turning point? Naw. 3pts tucked away. But I like what Reuter said after the game: "It is a 34 game season and we are in for the long haul."
Kurz's quote was also pretty telling: "The whole team gets alone. The players respect each other, as well as the coach. Management respects everyone. The team has just had consecutive hard luck. That is never easy to overcome. But we have 34 games to make it work."
If you take these at face value, coupled with some of the things you hear behind the scenes, it would seem (for now) that management has no intention of letting Kurz go or making wholesale changes. They truly believe it is hard luck and not wrong coach, system, or players. Only time will tell if this is misplaced trust.

Gebhart hugged someone else first. I think even two others. He was with Kurz for not even a few seconds as I remember.
But you have the video, I may not remember properly.

So, and forgive me for not knowing this, but is it known whether the players are siding with Kurz or, perhaps in a better way to say it, supporting him in this mess?
