View Full Version : One of Our Obvious Weaknesses

I was having a chat with someone I used to work with who's a Barca fan. We were talking about how both teams have had some the similar problems this these past two seasons. Lack of width, key injuries, the tendency to over pass, and up until last season lack of goals from corners. Let me get to my point, he then talked about how awful they were at direct free kicks when Ronnie was'nt there, and that brings me to my point. When RVP is out(which i'm sure will happen soon:(), I can't help but notice how awful this team is at direct free kicks from dangerous positions, when they are awarded a free kick, I don't even entertain the thought for one second that they might actually convert it. I know most teams like us have only one guy who's really good at that, but with RVP being that guy for us, this team simply needs someone else who's capable of doing it.
Anyone knows if Nasri is good at this.

Nasri is good at it... so is Rosicky (no idea why he doesnt take them for us)...
Cesc needs to differ on this... he really is bad at FKs, and is improving at corners...

Rosicky is pretty good at them... but.... well.... yeah, it'd be nice if we could pick another one up. Anyone see Vela take them ever?

Cesc' corners for spain looked pretty good to me. If he can bring them for Arsenal we should continue to improve there.

My issue with corners for Arsenal is that the players taking them always seem to be players I feel should be around the receiving end. Cesc needs to be near the box in the event the ball gets out, as his creativity can help keep the attack in play.
As for PK's, Arsenal does seem lacking in a solid threat here. Rosicky's penchant for shooting from a distance during the run of play suggests he could do well, and I agree RvP is a good choice there. Beyond that, no one makes me really think "Oh yeah, goal coming up!"

Cesc takes absolutely horrible set pieces. He floats the ball in and hopes for the best.
But honestly, I clicked on this thread thinking it was about our goalkeeping situation.

Our set-pieces in general have been terrible for ages. Even the worst teams work on this area until they offer some kind of threat. The failure to address this is annoying, it's like it's beneath the Arsenal coaching staff to practice free-kicks and corners.
