We are too big to resemble the A's, a small market team with a small fan base and meager budget that tries to develop young players because it can't compete with the big boys. I would say the Bulls (being from Chicago, of course).

Let me tell you about the Bulls: they are a big market team, recently migrating to a new, even more profitable arena, huge fan support since the Jordan era, massive profit margin (I think last year, Reinsdork and Company raked in something like 60 million in net profit), with a net worth valuation among the very best in the NBA.

And yet, despite all they may have going for them, the Bulls live in mortal fear of being imposed the NBA luxury tax, and consequently, maintain a spendthrift philosophy and are on a strict budget. Unlike the Lakers and Knicks, who are wiling to go well over the luxury tax in order to win.

I think they're more like the Patriots. Spendthrift and stingy, but smart and occasionally dominant. Which means one of these days they're gonna get sick of it, and Wenger's gonna sign Randy Moss :o

believe or not, I was thinking Bulls before I even opened this thread.

and you put Knicks and win in the same phrase. That's impossible.

Well, all I'm saying is that the Knicks solution is to (1) just throw good $ after bad; (2) repeat Step 1.

I guess that NYKnicks is the Spurs model, then. :)

He'll moon s***s after scoring against them - That would be worth seeing...

I'm not sure I agree about the Patriots or any other comparison that can be offered because unlike any of the teams listed here Arsenal have no set spending limit of any kind imposed upon them except that the Arsenal Board sets. The Arsenal Board is the only body that actually limits our spending as there is no salary cap or transfer fee cap in European or English Football.

I can see why we would make comparisons and the Bulls one makes real sense to me, but again Arsenal have no such limits imposed on it by the FA UEFA or FIFA which makes our Board's extreme financial conservatism that much harder to understand.

Again no one is suggesting we spend like Chelsea but paying our best players half or less even what other clubs we aspire to be compared favorably with pay their best players, and spending less than we did on the transfer market when we werer taking in less than half of what we have taken in the last two seasons just is astounding....

Minnesota Twins;

1. Great at finding and developing young talent.
2. Consistently in the hunt at or near the top of the table
(even if it is the AL Central)
3. Occasionally win a trophy...

However, i'm not sure what there budget is. Another similar team would be the LA Angels.

Keep in mind, i don't follow baseball, so i'm not exactly sure what i'm talking about.

The A's, but with a manager that would be like Torre, Scosia, Piniella and LaRussa all roled into one. Arsenal have adopted "moneyball", but get the nearly-optimum results due to Wenger.

I hope Arsenal never turn into the Yankees, but I wouldn't mind if they turned into the RedSox.

Ah.........as it turned out, it was not the food. It was simply the uneasy feeling of actually playing a meaningful match in the month of May that made them crap themselves.

What's the difference now? The Red Sox are spending a WHOLE LOT of money now...

The Atlanta Braves of the 1990s...

How about the Atlanta Braves in general?
Long, rich history in the sport? Check.
Steady-handed, long-serving manager? Check.
Limited resources compared to richer teams? Check.
Working to compete with young talent instead of high-dollar buys? Check.
Generally consistent from year to year, despite personnel changes? Check.
