I've been in Energy sales (SUEZ Energy NA)for the last 2.5 -3 years and i've alway's had a pretty easy time w/ it commisions used to be pretty good $100 bucks a deal for Residential , now it's just $40 a deal scew that! + it's all outside and houston is 90 degrees every damn day!..aaaarrrrggghhhh!

So i thought i'd make the jump to commercial/industrial because it pays way more guess what it's waaaay harder than it used to be .... I guess i'm not cut out for this kind of gig anymore! it just pisses me off!

After college I worked for a pretty prominent company and after maybe 13 years I left and went to work for my viejo which was nice but mixing family and business never set well with me. I've gone back to my old job with a raise and a promotion. The key to success is willing to take chances regardless of outcome. You'll find your thing.

During college I started a business with my dad. I was running it while in school and wanted out as soon as I graduated. When I did I headed to Manhattan where I thought that I would find what I was looking for. 9-5, corporate, action and fun.

As it turned out, it was the complete opposite and I wanted to shoot myself in the head. After ending up at a publishing company ( i was a computer network engineer) and seeing how absolutely backwards they work (i came from a bank, where the network is seen as GOD), I decided one day to LEAVE.

I wasnt in my environment and I just got the F'ck out of there ASAP. Pick up all my stuff and never looked back. I then returned to the business and decided to do what I do best. It's been 11 years since I left and I couldn't be happier.

Devilman, look for happiness the money will come in time. Oh and defintely use the law of attraction. A GREAT book to read on it, is called THE ATTRACTOR FACTOR by Joe Vitale. Great personality and full of life. I would suggest the audio because it does a much better job of delivering the message. He's actually very close to you in Austin. Seems like that part of the country is very spiritual.

Anyhow follow your heart and everything else will come in due time.

Hey, it's cool to find out what other people here do. Maybe we can use this thread to discuss it.

I started a small import/export business with my brother in law some years ago. It's not big, but it grew little by little, and we can have a decent lifestyle and some leisure time, as well as travel quite a bit.

It's a bit of a roller coaster ride, though. Some years we did very well. This year it's been a bit tough, but we're hanging on.

Nobody said is everything. I've been on both sides of the fence. In fact when I was working for my viejo I made quite a bit more but was always traveling, dealing with borderline shady people that always felt they were entitled to a better deal than we offered. I now work for an awesome company with a clear defined mission that I truly believe in. Between the wife and I we still are capable of living a comfortable enough life to go and build our own home here in Austin.

As far as traveling, I completely agree with you there. Between my military service and a trust fund I've been able to see most of the world. On more than one occasion I've immersed myself in the local culture as opposed to staying in the touristy areas. It's that education more so than college that has taught me the most.

Import/Export to and from Argentina or elsewhere?

Import/Export to and from Argentina or elsewhere?

Mostly import from China, and export to Latin America. Mexico is my biggest market, in addition to the US. I do have a couple of customers in Argentina.

It's mostly low demand small niche products, that the big importers and chainstores won't do. I import hand made artificial flowers for weddings and favors, and some Xmas decorations.

I got into it because I was working for a Korean guy who was doing it, and he never could bring enough, and nobody else was doing it at the time. So it was a great opportunity and we saved some money and brought the first shipment.

That was in the 90's. Now a bunch of Chinese people are doing it and they pretty much got the prices down and the market is pretty much saturated.

I manage a bunch of very high level engineers.

I travel quite a bit for my job...most of the time it is a blast but every once in a while it can get old. This last trip to Italy, 10 days, was about 2 days too long.

I think I'm getting a bit old for the plane rides and my body is starting to tell me to slow down. On average, I probably put 75K to 100K air miles per year with my not-so-skinny backside in a coach seat. This year I have 35K with United (Asia) and 35K with Delta (Europe) already....and I have over 5 months to go....

It could be worse....some of the engineers that work for me are gone from their homes for 250+ days per year:eek:. That is not for me....

Don't get me wrong, I love what I do and I've been doing it for quite some time, but, there is a season for everything and we'll see what the next season brings. Maybe Chunt will trade his dumptruck seat for my coach seat. I bet his is more comfortable;)

I love my job. Even though I'm leaving soon and going back to school.

Anyway, I mostly work at a film school in Manhattan which is very international. Basically I get to meet new people from all over the world on a weekly basis including tons of girls :p all while doing film related things which is what I love. I have contacts in practically every continent now because of the people I've met which obviously helps if I want to travel. I've also met tons of good filmmakers which I'd love to work with in the future.

It's also great since there are a lot of Europeans and South Americans so there's always someone to talk football with.

When I'm not working there I usually work freelance on movies, commercials, music videos, tv, ext...
