For what it is worth, here is Blanco's official statement regarding his actions at last week's USOC game at the Soccerplex:

Bridgeview, Ill. (July 14, 2008) - The following is a statement from the Chicago Fire's Cuauhtemoc Blanco regarding the Chicago-D.C. United game on July 8.

"I sincerely regret my inappropriate actions during the game against D.C. United on Tuesday. I disappointed my Fire teammates and coaches, D.C. United players and staff, Major League Soccer, the U.S. Soccer Federation, and all our fans. I am truly sorry."

Wow, that's pretty amazing how he was able to make his apology sound just like it was written by the Fire PR department. Blanco is seriously talented to do that.

The saddest part of it all is you know it doesn't mean jack coming out of his mouth. And until someone really comes down hard on him with a serious fine and suspension it DON'T MEAN JACK! He can take his crap apology and shove it where the sun don't shine.... WOW! Where did that little bit o' anger come from?!?!

That was my first thought too! Which of his actions was he apologizing for?
Hitting Simms, dissenting (it's that even a word?) the 4th ref, headbutting the DCU official, being a classless thug his whole career? There are so many things.....

p.s. Do you think he understood what he read?

Will be interesting to see if this is true -- rumored suspension off 5 USOC matches + $5k fine and 2 MLS matches.

Where did you get the rumor from?

I was going to joke MLS Rumors, but then I went to that putrid site, and well......it's there, right above some random European player going to the Galaxy.

I have become accustomed to apologies of the "I'm sorry you're offended" variety.

That one actually wasn't too bad.

But Blanco is probably wrong. I doubt he disappointed the DC players and staff. He probably didn't disappoint the USSF, either.

Well, that certainly must put an end to this sordid affair. Shows you what a real man he must be to step up and apologize and not mention how his feelings were hurt by all those United "fans" booing and taunting him.

I hope all those so-called fans will apologize also because it's really their fault.

Yeah, I'm kidding.

What he's saying in 'apology-speak' is that he's sorry you were offended, not that he's sorry for what he did.

Edit: Oops, should have seen what Jegao Paraiba said.

I agree. That was a horrible apology and not sincere at all. How about apologizing directly to Clyde Simms as that's the most important person here. Not that it would be sincere either. I hope there's something in his punishment about probation. He should be suspended for the next two games against DC...
I saw the same rumor, but I think its fair enough on the games side (although the $ should be a lot more to actually affect him a little).

That was why I asked. If it came from MLS Rumors, I'll ignore it until the league and the federation issue official press releases.

I'd argue that he should also apologize the the DC staffer he headbutted.

And I don't believe the rumor for a second if it did indeed originate on the crappy MLS Rumors site.

Why would Blanco apologize to the United Staff. It is not Blanco fault that his forehead accidently grazed a united staffer who was interfering with Blanco getting his gear from the bench. The Fire FO said it so it must be true.

Assuming that's true. I read a statement from a Maryland police officer stating that there was no headbutt or anything of that nature.

Absolutely, if it doesn't come from the federation, MLS, and/or Goff, I'm skeptical.
