He absolutely does not defend Ligue 1.

He's saying that it's "normal" that every good player go to Spain, England and Italy and that it's "normal" that L1 gets more and more weak and poor.

It's only "defending" if the target audience didn't even know of the amount of good young players ligue 1 consistently produces.

Ligue 1 is also good for aging French internationals.

Thuram, Giuly and now Makelele are playing for PSG.

I think that is a special case because PSG desperately needed to make a splash some how and what better way then to sign some players who are very well known to get the supporters excited most of whom are very upset at how things have been going.

Ligue 1 is also good for aging French internationals.

Thuram, Giuly and now Makelele are playing for PSG.

Thuram is an assistant to the President and probably will be in full retirement due to his heart ailment.

Giuly and Makelele are still very good players who were also brought in to help with the younger players we'll play this season.

Aging French internationals that can still play is what you left out.

If Gallas comes to Ligue 1 it will be a full revival.

People forget these guys are actually french and might just want to come home. They are not football-automations.

It's a thing I'm far to be sure about when I see zillions of 15-18
year old French players signing in Bolton, Arsenal or Tottenham.

right. the grass is always greener on the other side. plus when they've made their millions it becomes a quality of life issue and where they would be most happy.

Ligue 1 is getting worse every year. Pretty soon the Turkish and Russian leagues will surpass it. Its already started. Russia has 2 UEFA Cup victories in the last 5 years and France has 0 in 50 years. Fenerbache is already showing they can attract better foreign players than Olympique Lyon can. PSG right now seems to be the only French team attracting decent foreign talent. Yes the players are French but by foreign I mean that they've been playing abroad. I fully expect Fenerbache and Zenit St. Petersburg to go farther in Europe this year than Lyon will. If I was a betting man I'd bet the house on it.

This is a side note but I didnt like it when they changed the name from Le Championat to Ligue 1. Ligue 1 is a lousy name. The English 3rd division is called League 1 !

Then you will lose. Your team hasnt done anything this summer that would make me feel differently. Fenerbache advanced further in Europe than Lyon last year so I'm not really going out on a limb here.

Except that you said Fenerbache AND Zenit would both advance further.

Plus Lyon did do something significant, they got a new coach, the same coach that almost surprised Man U with a lowly team like Lille. Plus I think OL will be stronger in defense this season.

Yeah I'll still take Zenit but I havent been following their transfer activities this summer but I dont think theyve been severely weakened.
