There's a report that Sunderland have offered more than 4 million quid for George McCartney, who used to play for them; I hope that it's no more than a rumour. He was our best and most reliable defender last season, and I don't think he missed a game.
I'd like to see the Hammers confirm he's not for sale to anyone.

See, remember earlier in the summer when I said that you can't just "clear out the deadwood". This is what I'm talking about. If I was Curbishley, I'd have told Nani to have two or three cheap, workable replacements for EVERY position because the financial predicament the team finds itself in means that no good offer will be turned down. If we go for Shorey, Reading will demand the money we're getting for McCartney, maybe more. So then we go shopping for the next Tyrone Mears and our most reliable defensive position becomes the biggest liability.

The story was that his wife was unsettled and wanted to go back to the frozen northern wastelands, however George has come out today and said he has no desire to leave so take your pick!

Sunderland ... London ... Sunderland ... London ... Sunderland ... London.
That is like picking Fargo over New York City.
