Not so sure what to make of him yet, mainly because he's barely played for Arsenal. Surely Stoke or Hull could use him rather than sending him a few divisions down for the entire season.

Unfortunately she's West Ham 'till she dies.

If Gilbert's good as gone, why not just sell him outright already? Someone thinks he's got a bit of potential, right? Has anyone here actually seen him play more than just that quick spell 2/3 years ago?

Decent replacement for Stearman & Sheehan, gives us options for both fullback positions as despite having half a million right-backs last season they were mostly huge failures, so a decent deal. Presumably its with a view to buying at the end of the season, as I've certainly never seen Premiership quality from Gilbert. He was pretty decent at Cardiff on loan a while back, didn't think he stood out all that much but certainly is a Championship level player so it should be a good deal for us. Hopefully its not an indicator of Mattock going, he needs a bit more first team football before making a move really.

Until something allegedly happened with a local schoolgirl and he allegedly decided to leave before an alleged birth or trip to an alleged abortion clinic.

Allegedly.

I don't think they had any other alternative but to sell him out on loan again

Gilbert has made 2 league appearances for Arsenal so far, he played in a UEFA Champions League match against Ajax, coming on as a substitute at left back. Gilbert played in both legs of Arsenal's League Cup semi-final against Wigan Athletic. He started in Arsenal's FA Cup win over Cardiff City on January 7, 2006, which was the start of a six-match run of appearances. In 2006 he has played nine times for Arsenal then joined Cardiff and Southend on loan in 2007.

Just thought it should be mentioned that Gilbert has been a regular in the starting 11 at Leicester who are currently top of League 1 and have conceded the fewest goals in League 1. Also, Gilbert was in the League One team of the week the last time they put one out.

Sounds like he is getting good match experience. I was watching the 05/06 season in review and he played a cross into Henry in a match that was total class. Hope we get him back a more experienced player and can start using him.....

Hate to break it to ya, but he'll likely never play here again. He's almost 22 and he's still playing in the 3rd division.

I think we are going down a different route with the younger players. In seasons gone by I believe that Simpson may have been allowed to leave permanently.

Sidwell, Muamba and Bentley could have been useful squad players here so I have no problem with loaning these guys out for longer periods so long as the loan club picks up their wages.

Some players (especially English ones) are later at showing their potential and I think Arsene may have realised this. He is also terrified about this home grown rule that is gathering steam and the credit crunch.

yeah, we could use sidwell and bentley right about now, even though they arent starters, they are good enoug role players

I'd agree on Sidwell but not Bentley. Sidwell strikes me as the type of midfielder we could have used of late....gritty, does some of the dirty work and is willing to work hard to win the ball back and certainly has enough skill to hold his own in the midfield (hell, if Song can do it...Sidwell could have). Bentley would just add to the problems...huge ego, bad attitude, slow, more concerned with his haircut than football. IMO, he's not the type of player you want on a team that's struggling to find itself.
