Further addressing the percentages (ahem Ozzy), they are relative values. Sure, the Predators may be 8% more powerful and provide 6% more swerve or whatever, but in comparison to what? A pair of the worst cleats ever invented? Also, if a company says, "Professional players generated 8% more power in Predator Powerswerves than in 'Shit Boot A,'" there's nothing saying that the player put the same power into his shot for the Preds as "Shit Boot A"...so the Preds could be just as ************ as the Shit boot...

I am not sure what a shill is...(though if you mean that I am working for Concave then no I am not).

However I normally post on big.footy.com as stfan (they do not talk about boots much there and there are no boot or gear sections and so I have only made a couple of posts there on the boot. I mainly just talk footy there.

I came onto this site because I was/am following the boots and it bobbed up here.

I am also mainly an Australian Rules Footbal Fan, though I do follow Melbourne Victory a bit as well as the national team (Socceroos). So I mainly discuss Australian Rules rather than soccer, which is why I am not posting in the other parts of big.soccer

So how have you found this? Some independant scientific study? How are you measuring the power you get off your vaps, speedgun, lightgates???

My point is you most likely BELIEVE they're the same, but when we're talking single-digit percentiles it's more than likely that the claims are valid in a closed environment. Sure, what the hell would an extra 2mph on your fastest shot make in a real life game with all those extraneous variables to performance.

Science is science man, don't mess with it. It's just it's ecological validity thats debateable.....

I can part answer your questions.

From Footy-boots Website on cost:

Price: £99
Availability: August 2008
Colour: Black/Red/Silver
Sizes: 6-12

Now that might mean that inititially that you will only be able to get that boot with the black, red and silver combined colorway. See pics earlier in this thread or on the Concave website.

Now there are pics available of other colorways, but I have seen little in the way of when they will be available except on the Liverpool site where Mark Slater has said that all black and all white boots will be out approximately in January.

Also from other sites:

They are releasing a high end model and a mid range - both with three different outsoles - 7 stud, soft and hard ground. They will be competitively priced with models in their category. JJB is the exclusive retailer, and i believe they will be appearing in their newly renovated stores.

As I said I am in Australia and to best of my knowledge August 1 will be the first place anywhere in the world that you will be able to buy them. I have not seen any timings for any other country.

I do know that various players and others have been given boots now though. ie the guys at Footy-boots have been given a pair.

Does your shop carry T90 Lasers or the Predator line? Almost all boots have gimmicks now. Hell, even vapors have a gimmick now. Unless all your shop carries are copas, legends, and adipures there is no sense in the arguement that you won't carry gimmick products.

The concave, just like every other boot, will make it's sales based on false promises of more power and accuracy. This claim is not at all new to anyone here, as it is a promise that has been made by Adidas, Nike, Puma, etc...

The only reason anyone here, including myself, are weary of the concaves is because we have never seen them and they propose an entirely new concept.

You know, as stupid as these boots are I actually really like the colorways they've put together. Aside from that though...

to me the concaves are a decent looking boot
but what i cant understand is why dont boot designers
chuck all the gimmick crap and just make simple classic designs
that are comfortable for the player like the legends,adipures although the 2s are ridiculous and the copas.

Some people actually believe the gimmicks and it enhances their confidence, so they buy the likes of Concaves, Lasers, Preds etc because they think they will be able to bend it like Beckham, or get more power in their shots...that's the one I don't understand, if you've got a more powerful shot it doesn't automatically mean you're gonna score more goals or be a better player...

Personally the biggest gimmick I bought into was sideways lacing for a bigger striking area on the boot, others are different I suppose :)

The way Concave is marketed, it's for folks who like "special technologies" or gimmicks, whatever you call them.

That's why a core group of folks who play football will not buy them, as they know that nothing is more important than a boot that fits them comfortably.

Obviously Concaves will want to sell boots (like any other company) so they will want to make as much noise as possible. Afterall, you still have the other group of folks who believe every 'fact' companies throw at them!

PS - I've been away for 2 weeks and really can't believe the Concaves have its own thread!

i fully understand what you are saying and totally agree but im just saying its a good marketing technique for them they dont have the money to buy big players so they show some good statistics make you interested and you just showed that because you were obviously interested in the powerswerves when you read that especially if you memorized it?


Actually I was just browsing and came across when looking at different prices for boots, I remembered it because it just sounds so false...

These boots are just so bad, sure you can kick it faster/longer/on target... but thats if you are parallel with the goal and if you actually kick it with that part of your foot...

I would never buy a pair of those because I kick the ball where the edge is so it would go everywhere other than where i want it to go...

I just hope they realise that no one is going to buy them after a month or so, then shut down...
