When you can fall for chains of silver you can fall for chains of gold
You can fall for pretty strangers and the promises they hold
You promised me everything you promised me thick and thin
Now you just say oh Romeo yeah you know I used to have a scene with him

OMG... you are guys are insane...

ooooh we didnt spend all 30 million to replace Overmars... WHAT WILL WE DO???

drop 6 million and buy a Robert Pires... who ended up better than overmars at Arsenal and over the rest of their careers

oooooh, how are we going to replace Anelka, he is only 19... and we havent spent all of the money to replace him... WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO???

so we sign probably out GOAT in Henry... and only spend 8 million doing so...

oooooooooooh, We just sold Vieira, we have no one in our midfield... WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO????

dont worry, we have Cesc Fabregas...

Arsenal fans love to whine and cry... and be depressed... bunch of drama queens...

then the season stars, we are competing for trophies and everyone calls Wenger a genius

First off, I apologize for picking this up so late, but I had to respond to CLEAR MY NAME!

Let's calm down for a second. And cool it with the name-calling. All I said in that post was that Manchester United's situation was not in any way similar to ours, transfer-wise. You'd agree with that, right? In no way was I judging the Wenger system. What anti was trying to prove with his comment was that ManU sold players, and that they're not a feeder club, and we sell players too, so we're not a feeder club. Not sufficient evidence.

But I don't agree that we are a feeder club. To qualify as a feeder club, I think our players that leave have to have success at their ensuing teams, and none (save, arguably, Vieira) have. We are unquetionably a selling team, however. And while I'm not panic-stricken about losing players and having to replace them, I am concerned that if we want to win trophies, we have to be a little more realistic about what going rates are. It's great to be a club of principle, and it makes me proud to say I'm a Gooner. But to be honest, how can we possibly maintain an antiquated wage structure when there is rampant inflation in player wages? Market-wise, it just doesn't work.

We only got 11.9m for Hleb?

"Kudos, Elaine, on a job...................done"

Friar is no good at this. Hleb is worth more that 11.9m - even if he only has 2 years left and wants to leave. Heck, Arshavin is ready to leave is the same age and he is going to go for more - despite not proving himself week in and week out at the highest level and providing a large risk.

The complacency we show to players and their positions on the field seems to have carried over to our management team as well. Anyone can negotiate transfers for any team, not everyone will be equally good at it. Get someone who knows how to do this, because if we will be relying on money generated by sales to fund new transfers, we better be getting paid as much as we deserve.

Barca robbed us on the Henry deal - henry's marketing value should have definately factored in and raised the price, and we got robbed on the Hleb deal (and I don't doubt the price thrown around).

I wouldn't pay 10 million pounds for Hleb, so I would be thrilled with 12 million pounds.

On one hand I don't care what we got as I don't see us bringing in another player, but on other hand we should be fleecing teams for all we can.

Its a decent price, but its not like it really matters and were going to do anything with the money.

We've lost half our midfield, but dont worry Arsenal fans, we got Amaury Fukin Bischoff!!!

I think we got a good deal on someone who can only play half a season due to a chronic injury that Barca knew about. Henry's wages coming off the books helped too.

If we get what we paid for Hleb then it's not that bad of a deal. We did get a few years of service from him as well.

Arshavin won't go for 25 or whatever Zenit want. They'll be lucky if he goes for 15.

Alexander Hleb is expected to take a medical with Barcelona over the weekend and seems set to sign for the Catalan giants early next week.

The Belarus international was credited with criticising Arsene Wenger and Cesc Fabregas this week and although he insists these quotes were not accurate it seems unlikely that he would be welcomed to Arsenal's pre-season training on Thursday.

Reports in Spain suggest Barcelona will pay 15 million euros (£11.9 million) for his services with another 3 million (£2.4 million) should Barcelona win the league in the next two years.

Initially Arsenal are thought to have held out for 20 million euros when negotiations began in early May.

At this time, just before the end of the 2007/08 campaign Josep Guardiola was appointed as Frank Rijkaard's successor and is believed to have made the signing of Hleb his first priority.

Hleb, who cost £11.2 million when he joined Arsenal from Stuttgart three years ago, is likely to pen a four-year deal with the azulgrana.
I guess that means we have to root for Barca.

A few extra million to go into a bank account and collect interest is not worth cheering for the Barca scum.

If we put all 11.9m back into the transfer market this could work out very well. If it just fuels our "look at how low our net spending" is, then Wenger should be slapped.

The move for another top attacking midfielder was in the works well before the season ended, when Wenger identified we needed more than 2 quality attacking mids, and declared his interest in Ben Arfa. This should not be a situation where we say "Oh well this is convenient, Hleb just left and Nasri just arrived - I guess we are covered".

With Hleb we still needed one more top mid, so with Hleb gone we should need two. 12m is a lot in Wenger world, I expect him to find a very good replacement for him.

I expect the 12m = Nasri.

This is what is going to happen.

Then AW will do his typical "Well Eboue can play there, Vela can play there, Traore can play there, we do not need another player in that position"

Nasri in, Hleb out puts us back where we were last season with not enough qualty depth.

We don't need to add Silva, VdV etc. but we should still add another attacking mid in the same 12m range at the very least.

its what I said in the other thread... its not a great price, but its not bad either...

not much we could do since he wanted to leave and was open about it... and Hleb isnt a world class player...

it sucks that he is gone, but Arsenal moves on

He wants to leave, he wants to leave...oh well. I absoloutely loved Hleb's services for our club, specifically this season, he was amazing. However, the thing to remember is there was an Arsenal Football Club before Hleb and there will be an AFC after he's gone.

I'm the sort of person who after I hear all of these talks about so and so leaving, I feel like there has been talks for a reason. A lot of it may be fabricated, but it all stems from some speck of truth. So...there's been so much talk about Hleb and Adebayor as well, I feel like they just need to leave. They may be top quality players, they may have played a huge part last season, but if their heart isn't in it then they need to follow it.
