Goal.com Player of the Week – Colin Clark, MF, Colorado

This could have just as easily been any one of those pesky Rapids, non-losers in 11 of 12 Independence Day clashes, but Clark gets the nod for his parabolic cross to set up Tam McManus' simple finish to open the scoring. There aren't many in the league who can drop it in like that, especially when you ask them to do it with their left foot. Clark's acute-angle finish to the far post showed just another touch of class from the emerging left winger.

Special honorable mention goes to Adam Cristman, who would have merited stronger consideration for perhaps the best performance of his career had he ravaged anyone else besides the completely inept Abel Xavier, and Mehdi Ballouchy

Clark has so much potential. I just wish he would be more consistent in his play. His best games (vs. LA & vs. NYRB) he looks like a world-beater. Other games he just disappears.

I guess inconsistency is something that comes with a young player.

How much is inconsistency versus coaching instructions and tactics? And how much of the latter while making him less exciting in the short run could help him in the long run?

Dunno. I certainly don't have the tactical knowledge to correctly answer that question. Off the top of my head, I don't think Clavijo has a good track record of turning a young kid with potential into a qualified stud. I'd have more confidence if Clark was under the tutelage of a coach like Wenger.....or more realistically, a coach like Steve Nicol.
