As I'm here in Germany currently, I'm off to the Borussia shop tomorrow to pick up a Bradley jersey. Very cool info that another yank is on the team. Gives me more cause to run with them.

A slow start, but going to top the league Monchengladbach.

You lucky dude! ;)

Enjoy your stay in Rhineland, Sam. Pity you can't attend a game at Borussia-Park.

Too funny. I also visited Germany this week (my grandmother lives in Neukirchen-Vluyn) and visited the fan shop and stadium. I bought my Rob Friend jersey (like 90 euros!), snuck into the stadium and took some pics. Maybe I'll post a couple pics once I retrieve the photos from the camera.

Btw, I was surprised the fan shop was open. I think I also spotted Rossler in the parking lot :)

Cool. :) So your grandmother is a Moerserin...

You mean THIS (http://img359.imageshack.us/img359/923/pic0184sh2.jpg) one?

€ 90? C'mon, that can't be the normal jersey prize. Is the flocking really that expensive?

That would be nice. Had you been allowed to also view the impressive VIP area in the main stand?

Shame you couldn't attend a game and take SUCH (http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/5017/pic0221sc7.jpg) a pic from the Nordkurve.

Btw, I was surprised the fan shop was open.

Why? It's opened every day (incl. on Saturday matchdays until the home game starts).

When Wednesday's World Cup qualifier against Trinidad and Tobago is over, a "new challenge" begins for US international Michael Bradley.

Nice to hear that Michael scored against Trinidad Tobago (my fav team - aside from Germany - at the WC 2006).

PS: Steve Gohouri was banned to the amateur team (4th league) due to missing medical therapy after his injury. Another blackout from him after the "disco night" before the derby against Cologne last season (when he lost his spot to Daems).

My grandmother is actually a Rheinhausener :) Maybe you'd call her a Duisburger? My dad is from Duisburg and roots for the Zebras.

Yes, that's the fan shop I visited. I think the flocking was an extra 15 euro or something. All I know is that the exchange rate was not kind to me! The only reasonably priced items in Germany were flowers and beer. Burp! I had heard that the stadium was a bit isolated and wasn't sure the shop would be open on non-match days, but I did visit this past Monday to find it open.

I actually wasn't allowed to be in the stadium at all (we let ourselves in by finding an unlocked door, hehe), so we just walked up the stairs facing the Borussia colored seats and looked around a bit. It looked intimate and smaller in person. It looked like there wasn't a bad seat in the house. I thought it looked great.

Yeah, I was disappointed that no matches were played during my stay, but I'm happy with the experience nonetheless :)

Zebras in den Zoo! :p ;) Just kidding, Duisburg is ok and not really a rival for BMG.

Maybe you'll have more luck during your next stay.

Btw: How much did you pay for the flight from California to Düsseldorf and back?

The flight from SF to Frankfurt was $1,300US, but I booked on Monday and flew on Friday. Not too bad considering.

Hey Gaucho. Saw your alma mater on FSW last week. Didn't notive any Canucks on the team. Friend had a miserable time in Mexico, playing in a

4 - 4 - 1 --------------------- 1 formation. Pretty lonely up there by himself covered by Marquez and 1 or 2 others all night. Here's to Rob potting a couple against H96 on the weekend!!

Here's to Rob potting a couple against H96 on the weekend!!

I'm really curious whether he'll be among the "starting 11" in Hanover. We're facing a very tough away game (H96 are under big pressure and need 3 points), but ran out of strikers (Colautti injured, Neuville & Lamidi not top fit yet, Rob tired from his long trip). Who knows, maybe we're gonna start with a 4:6:0 this time...;)

Here's a pre-match report with a part of the press-conference:

Christian Hochstätter was our long-time skipper and club manager (after he finished his career), Dieter Hecking our former player, Robert Enke our former goalie (came from our youth teams and moved to Benfica after our 1st relegation), Jan Schlaudraff & Mika Forssell (who's still a "hero" in MG) our former strikers.

Damn, even our club colours are the same...;)

Dear Mikklu, we still adore you and wish you all the best ... but please don't get fit until Sunday! :-)

[QUOTE=CanuckFan;15717984]Hey Gaucho. Saw your alma mater on FSW last week. Didn't notive any Canucks on the team. QUOTE]

I will try not to derail this thread too much, but there is a Canadian freshman on the roster this year but he hasn't seen any PT yet (we have had a recent history of Canadians on the team including Friend, Tyler Rosenlund (Toronto FC), Myles Davis, and Andrew Proctor).

The current Canadian is Reid Fraser who is actually an inch taller than Friend:
http://ucsbgauchos.cstv.com/sports/m-soccer/mtt/fraser_reid00.html

In a season preview, this was said of Reid Fraser:

Joining them will be freshmen Reid Fraser, who is 6-foot-5 and "in the mold of Rob Friend," a former Gaucho great, according to Vom Steeg.

We have players from all over the world including New Zealand, Ghana, Ireland, Canada, Norway, Sweden, and Spain. I am still hoping we get a German one day :)
