Well i had to work today...so didnt see the game...but from all the aspects looking at it from training camp till now,i think our squad may have been too over-confident if anything.....i totally disagree we lack bundesliga level confidence and performance in our players and i got a good laugh from some of the comments ! most these guys have played at the highest level in similar situations..in other clubs/leagues. etc...i am very sure it was more a matter of they kindda had not doubt they would come out and win and show everybody what they are capable of...and sometimes when you get in that mind frame its risky and you could end up actually losing it all...u actually perform "flat" and from there on its all down-hill..just like a snow-ball effect,as much as i would have liked all 3 points in our pocket..but looking at it now from a different prespective this loss may just be what we needed to come back to earth and focus better without getting carried away by the HYPE!
I have total confidence in this squad and their dedication...adding a player or two is not even an issue...we just got carried away and our confidence didnt translate onto the pitch and on the score-board!

I think overall Gladbach played a naive game against us, being too aggressive, wanting too much from a first game, and showing occasional signs of nervousness and defensive lapses. But these things happen to all newly promoted sides and I think can be dealt with, and Gladbach did show potential in other areas.

Certain players were notably poor in my opinion:

Christoph Heimeroth: Obviously looked very poor in the first and the third goals, even the second was not full proof. With Hitzlsperger's shot power it's always hard for a keeper to hold on to those balls, but you cannot allow it to go under your body like he did. And the way he was tunneled by Gomez made him look extremely awkward consider the angle in which the show was taken.

Jaures: Perhaps the worst player on the field, I know he's a new buy so he may take time to adjust, but he often looked uneasy, and can directly be blamed for the second goal where he hopelessly lost the ball to Simak.

Your central defense: Often left too much space for our players to run at, Brouwers in particular was poor, Daems didn't notice that much in the game but when I did it wasn't particularly convincing.

Your defensive midfield: Both Paauwe and Alberman created a sort of whole between defense and midfield, the exact thing they are supposed to prevent. Hitzlsperger was given about 5 opportunities for his long-distance shots yesterday, and that you cannot allow.

However, with all my criticism here are some bright points:

Marin: I love this guy, I really believe he's gonna become an excellent player. Often threatened us with his quick runs, had one nice shot that barely missed and also gives good distribution and through balls. Gonna be a top player.

The rest of the attacking midfield and strikers: Were all ok - Gladbach did not look bad at all when going forward. Roesler was poor but he can't be blamed for that after that bad injury he received (and i'm 90% certain it was not on purpose by Pardo) so we'll have to judge him later, Matmour impressed me. He had one particularly nice run at the defense, getting past 3 of our players before Lehmann made an excellent stop. And finally Friend, I know he missed some sitters yesterday, but he got his goal in the end and i've seen him in 2. Liga and I do believe he has the potential to become a very solid 1. BL attacker. And when Neuville returns you really should have a good attack.

So overall, in my opinion Gladbach has lots of work to do in defense: some of that is just a question of coolness and getting used to the playing level, which will come naturally as the players play more and more BL games, the other is a question of ability, in which some positions may still need to be adjusted. However, with a strong midfield and attack, the side can be dangerous and once it sorts out its defensive problems I think will become a very tough opposition to beat.

So Gladbach fans, you shouldn't be too worried about this first game, things will improve with time and the side is definitely good enough to survive this 1. Liga season if little faults here and there are improved. :)

I can't believe that Pardo didn't even see yellow for the ugly ellbow check against Rösler's eye! During Rösler's absence, we conceded the 0:1 in numerical inferiority ... and short time later, Sascha even had to be replaced.

That surprised me--I thought German refs were tougher...;)

[I say that because an elbow *to the chest* drew a straight red from a German ref in the *third* minute in the US-Nigeria Olympic match earlier in the week.]

The clip lacks some chances. Where is the 2nd part?

At least I found a vid with all 4 goals:

German referees obviously don't see such incidents ... but hey, they give pk's that would be considered a joke in other leagues.

I have total confidence in this squad and their dedication...

Good attitude, Naz! :-)

Borussia take positives from baptism of fire

Borussia's Bundesliga campaign began with a setback yesterday. And although it wasn't all bad against VfB Stuttgart, many newspapers were calling it a "baptism of fire" today.

All 4 goals where terrible and more caused by silly mistakes and sub-standard playing, even the goals by stuttgart had a good dose of luck attached to it..i think this game was no indication for either teams in terms of how good or how bad they are,no disrespect to stuttgart..just b/c they came on top does not mean they did a damn good solid job...things for us will look more clear on our next 2 games IMO that is:rolleyes:

Hey, I got 2 out of 3, and I never got to see that team play on TV... I think SMG (Soccer Made in Germany) wasn't on in Ohio by that time....
