He's just playing there for a couple of years to set his family up for life, financially. He wont be there for ever.

Zarate may well be making shed loads of money, but if he can't even hack it in a micky mouse league his reputation is going to be in tatters.

He would have made money if he had moved to europe, perhaps not as much as he is making now, but more than enough to set him up for life, as it is he will be considered an oddity, a once very promising player who failed to fulfil his potential. But lets see how he does in the next couple of years.

It looks like Birmingham will be taking Mauro on loan with an option to for permanency. Interesting move by the Blues considering Mauro never really took off while playing in Qatar. To give the kid the benefit of the doubt, moving from Argentina to any Gulf state is quite a change culturally but how will he do in a city like Birmingham. Also iirc Birmingham just acquired another Argentino I just can't remember who at the moment.

Great player, best one out of that family. He doesn't pass the ball though. But he is a forward in the blitzkrieg sense....he'll fit well in england.

They were supposed to acquire Lucas Castroman. But that deal fell thru as Lucas ended up heading home to Boca Juniors.

Regarding Mauro Zarate, while he was in Velez (my team) he played well, as long as he was allowed to do whatever he wanted. When a stricker coach came along and didnt tolerate his ways, he was benched and his star power diminished. I also went to see him play in Canada with Argentina's U20 team. While still a very stong and technical player (it's hard to take the ball away from him) he's just not good at passing.

If Birmingham put him as their premeir striker and everyone passes the ball to him then he has a chance at returning to his past glory. If not I see him ping ponging around Europe for a couple of years before he returns to Argentina to play for either River or Boca.

Yeah I knew about Castroman and all but I really could've sworn another Argentine (youngster) was linked to Birmingham. I haven't been able to find anything else on line about it. Oh well and thanks for the response.
