i'll start it off with the result from the home first leg of their Intertoto cup match.

Hibernian 0

Elfsborg 2
(Bajrami 16, Augustsson 63)

a not entirely unexpected result for Hibs as this was their first match in their pre-season preparation whereas Elfsborg have already played 12 matches in the Swedish league so far.

from what i heard they seemed far sharper and fitter. perhaps with another week or so of training Hibs can make more of a game of it in the return leg in Sweden.

A disappointing result, but I'm having a hard time understanding the criticism that Hibs shouldn't have entered the tournament that I'm hearing. Match fitness does always seem to be a problem with these pseudo-Euro fixtures, but teams don't have much to lose by giving them a shot.

Whats causing me the most anxiety right now is the lack of transfer activity. Mixu might be waiting to see if large sums of money are brought in before making moves, but there are already some significant holes to be filled with the loss of Beuzelin. If we lose both Fletcher and Benji, Yantorno surely won't be enough cover there either.

still plenty of time left in the window.

Van Zanten came in as well.

in saying that, just had a look at your squad and it is a hell of a young team. need a few old timers in there methinks.

It's hard to believe some of those guys are as young as they are--seems like they've been around for a while. I agee, it needs some veteran influence. Jones provides that sometimes, but he also can be a problem. We need a new Sauzee.

Who was our kit sponsor for this game? Can't make it out from the poor photos on the official site.

According to reports in today's press Hibs forward Abdessalam Benjelloun is about to be the subject of a £1m bid from Belgian cracks Anderlecht.

Think we'd have to take that. A year ago he was worth much more, but he seems mentally weak and is worthless while he is fasting. Shame, because he had or maybe even has the potential to be one of the best in Scotland.

Elfsborg 2-0 Hibernian

Elfsborg go through 4-0 on agg.

well it would seem that the Swedish outfit were too far in front of Hibs in terms of fitness and preperation. no great surprise really. pity Hibs couldn't have got through this test and on a bit further when they'd have been far more sharper.

Yep, it was to be expected ... since they have just finished their season.

i cant believe anders svensson is still at elfsborg, from what i heard he made a huge difference in the tie. with queen of the south another team representing us in europe, i shudder to think whats going to happen to our coefficient. cant see motherwell doing well in the uefa cup group stages either.

same thing that happened to it after gretna and dunfermline were knocked out in round 1.
what's with the spl? a 1st division team in the uefa cup 3 straight years!

yeah but when they went out in the last 2 years rangers got to the last 16 then the final, and plus aberdeen reached the last 32.

unless rangers or us get the safety net into the uefa cup i cant see a scottish side getting out the uefa cup group stages.

hmm, i agree it will be hard for motherwell, but aberdeen were in a pretty hard group last season, and they still progressed from the group stage. if they get a few good draws, who knows?

I'll be in Edinburgh in a couple of weeks and have tickets for the friendly against Boro. It'll be my first time seeing a match at Easter Road, so let me know if there are any hints or things I should know beforehand. Though I don't have any previous connection to Hibernian, I'll be cheering them on as a loyal vistor to Auld Reekie.
