So I'll be over in Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo and Rio in November! And after a few years of waiting patiently, I can buy myself a new Boca Juniors home shirt - love it!
Now I'll also be wanting a River Plate shirt - however, I have a predicament (a lame and simple one that I like to entertain myself with because it's more fun then focussing on the harder ones!)...
I've always wanted a River home shirt - you take one look at it and it oozes history and tradition. BUT I'm the type that is pedantic not to dirty or stain any of my football shirts whatsoever - I'm terrified of taking a shirt out my cupboard and seeing a mark on it. Of course, the white River shirt looks prone to dirtiness *shreek*
Now their black away shirt is identical to their home shirt, except that the white is swapped for black, and the black is swapped for white. I definitely will buy it, and wear it, but I ask myself - does it carry the same sense of tradition, or does it seem like just another football shirt.
Sooo, I've seen the new River home shirt at a factory store over here in my little town, for 20gbp...seems like a bargain...except that I think it looks a little plain without a number on the back...and it seems a waste of money if I'm to get the away shirt in Buenos Aires.
Since I'm not made of money, I can't decide what to do? I have some Birthday money, but I'm saving that for my trip! Such confusion!!
And what about club shirts from Brazil?!
And that is my story:D

Get the boca shirt and do the thing like when half their players died their hair blue and put a yellow stripe in it!

Most of the large sporting goods stores in Buenos Aires carry the official numbers for Boca and River and have no problem printing a shirt that you didn't purchase from them. I'm not terribly fond of the away kit. Like you said, the home kit just oozes history. I'm actually a little disappointed that they've been using white shorts at home. It just looks wrong.
Also, keep an eye out for the AFA TGII. When I was there a few years ago I got a great price on the Rotiero version from the Adidas store (I think it was 190 pesos or about $65US). This year's version is one of the most beautiful designs I've seen and I would snap one up in a heartbeat if I were down there again.
I'm extremely jealous of your trip. It sounds fantastic. What matches are you going to see? I might be headed to Buenos Aires in March if I get accepted into this study tour program that is part of the MBA I just started. We'd get to chat with a few execs at AFA which would be phenominal. Fingers crossed.

Oh boy, it's great that you seem to know quite abit about Buenos Aires and the area!
So you say that there are shops that will do the printing? Names as well? Any shops in particular? The River shop at El Monumental should? Any particular cost I'm looking at? What are the prices of shirt over in BA anyways?
Also, are there any great football stores I should look out for?
And do you know what types of boot brands shops carry - besides the usual Adidas, Nike Puma?
I'm in BA for a week, and Boca are playing at home during that time - and I am craving to see a game at La Bombanera. I'm betting on buying a ticket at the stadium a few days before. I need to check other dates still.
Your possible trip sounds very exciting - especially that you'll actually be staying their for a period of time, therefore expecting the actual lifestyle and culture. I'll be holding thumbs for you as well, because from what I saw and felt from BA last time I went in 2006, it's an amazing place to be.:)

I suggest you wear the River shirt to a Boca match and then the Boca shirt to a River match and tell us what happens. Bonus points if you actually make it to the second match.

Quite hilarious...
If you're trying to poke fun at the idea of me showing support to two MAJOR rivals, I'll kindly explain my choice.
After over a decade of intense support of Arsenal, I've found that my subjectiveness has begun to ruin my appreciation for the game. I rarely can sit down to watch an EPL match without thinking, "I hate that player, I hate this player, he scored against us, I hate that bastard team."
I'm curbing my ways sooner then later so that as I grow older, I can sit and enjoy and chat about football instead of having an underlying hate for this or that team.

shrap he never said he wasn an ardent supporter, and i doubt hes gonna go to argentina anytime soon
alot of people take issue with who people follow and support, when i said i follow birmingham and arsenal people used to go mad and cry about it, saying i cant support both teams blah blah
as long as it's not 2 serious rivals that u 'support' religiously then it shouldn't matter

On the one hand: oh dear lord is that actually real? What next, a wrap that attaches your socks to your shorts so you can pretend their trousers and hit the club in your full kit and cleat-skin "shoes"!
On the other, I do end up driving home quite a bit after practice in my cleats- prolly should stop doing that- plus also when we go for a MaccyD's they do look at us like they want us to leave when a few of us are clacking our muddy cleats all over the floor....
But still, IS THAT REAL!!!!! The justification tabs like "economical" is funny, but "time saving- changing from cleats to street shoes can be a real time waster" yes of course, so can showering.....

I just bought myself the River Plate shirt -I was very confused what to do, but then I saw that it has no sponsors on the front or back, and then I was sold!

They used to have Budweiser, but they have brilliant kits. Probably my favorite South American side. Then again some of the NY fans that are in the supporters section and group are River fans so I guess I gotta haha :p

So I just got FIFA09 for PS3 - a belated Birthday present from the rents...AND...
I love the gameplay!
I appreciated PES, but not on PS3.
I enjoyed FIFA08, but my quick one touch game suffered because of how it lagged at passing.
However, EA have fixed this, and it really does feel better imo.
The new goal celebration feature is pretty cute too
