Meh, I don't mind getting really hot and sweating alot while playing - it feels good to shed water.

As for ankle and knee problems - the fields that I play on are so bad that I often turn my ankle. I'll be playing in Copa's on it, so I should be fun.

I'm really excited - my old club scene was getting depressing - we'd always train at about 7 till 9pm, and it's dark, with crap lighting. And the pitch gets waterlogged and muddy too.

On that topic, I was asked to play for a friend's inter-university team today, and I wore my Copa's. They felt superb. Very comfortable, and the soft leather touch on the ball is great.

I guess it's just me I hate heat overall, but it's different then a grass or dirt pitch. When you lunge in you can lock up your knee ect. A guy I worked with over the summer did that and well he was out for a while...:(

There's another level of "getting hot and sweating" when you play on Field Turf(which I assume you're talking about, not actual astroturf). Last time I played on Field Turf it was about 90 degrees F out with fairly high humidity. The temperature on the field was 140 degrees F. Your feet actually hurt from the heat. Some guys I know that played on Field Turf through college actually had white boots they'd wear on Field Turf to keep the temperature of their feet down. The stuff absolutely absorbs heat like nothing else. You're playing on ground up car tires.

I'd recommend getting a pair of synthetic boots to wear on the turf as well. You'll go through leather like nobody's business especially if you're playing matches and training on Field Turf.

Like most players you'll quickly grow to hate Field Turf. Sure it's better than astroturf but the ball never stops rolling, those little pellets get in everything, you'll be finding them for months. It also hurts like hell to slide on, enjoy your rug burns. The only really redeeming thing about it is that every Field Turf field plays the same so you'll know what to expect and you'll have a definite advantage over teams that play on natural grass as they try to get used to the pace and weight of their passes on the turf. Oh, one more thing, if it gets wet it's like ice.

Don't remind me my whole calf last year was like torn up ugly... IT hurt like hell I might add.. :mad:

Meh, I had a burn from tackling a 6'2 guy (I'm only 5'5) from my knee to my ankle, didn't hurt too much, and now that my school has put in newer turf that is supposed to be 'top notch' theres no burning.

As for the fieldturf debate, to paraphrase Brian Clough "If god had wanted football played on fieldturf, it'd grow itself in mud".

I understand we can't all have beautiful grass college fields all around us :o but still it's a shame people are in the position of getting excited over field turf, forget world hunger there should be a telefon about this :eek:
