"Why do we look to choose the best players and never, or almost never, to take the best coach?' he told L'Equipe.

'Between Domenech's one-man shows, his conflicts, his provocations, we have the impression that his image is more important than that of the France team.

'His main preoccupation is himself.

'The last France coach who was part of the elite of his profession was Aime Jacquet,' added Dugarry.

'We have to go ahead with someone who has a footballing pedigree.

'Football has changed a lot and the youngsters have changed. They are earning astronomic sums.

'I am sure that they listen differently to a coach who has won a lot than to a coach who has never won anything.

'I would love the new coach to be Didier Deschamps. He has a history. The youngsters will listen to him, that's for sure.

'He has the most profound respect for the blue shirt."

Duga also said that Gabriel Obertan would be another Cristiano Ronaldo, I hope he'll be right about that, too. :)

I'm not, but they've been doing a good job in rebuilding their side after the departures of Mavuba, Pauleta, Faubert and so on. They really should have an exciting team this season, along with l'OM and that pro-Domenech club on the Rhône.

How much of a factor did that "pro-Domenech club on the Rhône" have in him keeping his job ? It clearly had to have had at least some influence right ? Aulas is very powerfull in the realm of French soccer.

Its clear that the connection between Lyon and Domenech has been and seeming will continue to hurt the French national team. I am a Lyon supporter but I am also a supporter of Les Bleus and I am not blind.

Aulas profits financially by having his players called up regularly for International service. It drives up the price of his players, and if we know anything about Aulas is that his love of business sometimes outweighs his love of football.

If Aulas was able to use his influence to keep Domenech at the helm it is was for purely business reasons, and it will come at a price. It will mean that Domenech will continue to rely heavily on OL players regardless of form or the better interests of the national team. Many OL players fully deserve to be fixtures of the French team but others have not fared so well, among them Govou, Clerc, and Boumsong.

I would actually exonerate l'OL and Aulas from the FFF decision in the sense that this was more of an internal thing than Aulas coaxing anyone. And Domenech is not wrong to call on all the OL players, the organization there has done a terrific job in terms of their academy, as well as acqusitions (Toulalan is an example, now Pjanic and Lloris).

We can criticize Domenech all day, and I think, if one were to add all the posts I've had here against some of his non-selections (especially that of Mexès), I've already levelled enough criticisms against him to last a day, though like him or not, I think a true supporter has to stick it out now, hoping that things will improve. That's what I'm doing, for now, anyway. ;)

Problem with this quote is that a few of the younger players have spoken in favor of Domenech, notably Benzema. I disagree with his questioning Domenech's respect for the shirt, it's not the issue here. Fact is that this team had high expectations - and deservedly so - and underachieved in a way none of us could have imagined. Dugarry's quote comes off as very personal and nothing different from what a few former players for les bleus whom seem to not like Domenech have said in the past. It's to the point where any chance a few of these players get, they're taking cheap shots at him and it's a shame. Heck the one player who hasn't said much if anything at all about it is Zizou. It would be nice to see comments from a former player that attempt to be objectionable.

I agree with SuperSeb, we're all true supporters and need to get behind the team. As I stated earlier if we're not rocking this group by December then having Deschamps or possibly Blanc as the new manager wouldn't be a bad thing.

I am getting behind the team and I will respect the rank of manager but not the person. A naive part of me is hoping that Domenech has realized that it is not about him but the cynic in me is saying nah. I will respect the person when he actually makes some changes and stops relying on the 98 squad.

Give me a break Christophe, winning as a player has ******** all to do with being a respected by your players. Case in point, WENGER and MOURINHO. Two managers practically idolized by their players and did nothing when they laced their boots up. Or maybe he meant at the managerial level, but even then If you were only able to garner respect by winning titles than, they would be a lot clubs run by their players and that's not the case. That being said I think Domenech does have personality issues, but then why would players go out in public in support of him. If there was a team consensus to get him the hell out, they would have kept mum regardless if they liked him or not. That or our players don't even like each other that very much, which could be possible. Also I think his so called 'infatuation' with calling up Lyon players is greatly exaggerated. If Sagna isn't going to be called up due to injury, Clerc is next most definately. Govou? Maybe he's underperformed in a bleu shirt, but name a better wide player to take his place. I can think of only Pires and he's already written the team off. I still think Govou is grossly underrated as a player and a creator.

I would've chosen Giuly over Govou, he was doing okay at Roma (Shame, I wanted him at Lazio) but oh well.

Merci and je suis d'accord.
Hell, I thought Govou was one of the few bright spots for les bleus during this year's tournament.

FYI - Mourinho never played professionally.
