Horrible news for SC Freiburg.

SCF's young defensive shooting-star, Ömer Toprak, was involved in a Go-Karting accident on Tuesday and apparently was burned pretty badly.

He's in a burn hospital and while his injuries have been described as "serious", they are apparently not life threatening.

SCF released the following statement:

"SC Freiburg asks for your understanding as we cannot make any statements on (Toprak's) injries or the exact circumstances of the accident at this time. What is most important at this moment is that Ömer Toprak recovers as quickly as possible."

You can read the Kicker story at this link. (http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/bundesliga/startseite/artikel/509996/)

All the best for a speed recovery to this young man. :(

That's very sad & shocking news! :(

Let's hope he'll manage to recover.

Yeah, I saw that earlier too.

That was really the only "new" information in the article wasn't it??

Yeah.

They haven't given the details such as where exactly he's been burned etc, which is fair enough that's all personal stuff. I just hope they guy's okay you never wish this on someone, especially a person with their whole career ahead of them.

Exactly. I'd never wish anything like this even on a Schalke player......

this really is terrible news.
seems to be sounding worse and worse.

Toprak is a very promising player too...We're going to desperately need to get another decent defender if toprak can't get back to form any time soon.

really wish schwaab would have stayed
...and du ri cha still came over - that would have been a lot better :o

Ali Günes and SCF have agreed to dissolve Günes' contract.

Günes is expected to move back to Turkey on a free transfer.

yepp, can't say i'm too disappointed.
Gunes had some injuries this past season but really...he barely played at all and we didn't see any negatives.

Schuster, Uzoma, Banovic, Abdessadki, Flum, Olle Olle should be enough for a good season....that's if the first four guys are playing like they did (hopefully better)

so all together we've lost

gunes (turkey)
schwaab (leverkusen)
Schlitte (rostock)

new players:

Makiadi
Reisinger
Du ri Cha
Salz

...hopefully a couple more to come

Dude, this season you're going to find out if Robin Dutt is as good of a coach as many think he is.

It is going to take a monster coaching job and plenty of luck for you guys to stay up.......

Best of luck!!

when i say good season i mean... surviving! whether that be by goal difference or 20 points...It's a "good" season regardless :D

I do think that our players can do handle the task ahead and that Dutt is up to the challenge.
I'm also really relying on the natural motivation of finally being back in the 1st liga after being so close for too many years...to help lift spirits to bring home some valuable points.

Like i've said many times...I think i'm more worried about the 2nd season in 1st liga...don't want to pull a karlsruhe :p

but with a few more decent signings like makiadi and du ri cha...I think we'll do it.

IN FACT I THINK WE'LL WIN THE LEAGUE....(sarcasm)

Agree with that!

I even expect my guys to fall back some. Others did get stronger and I can't say that for us.

Of course. You're a fan. You're supposed to think that way.

I'm also really relying on the natural motivation of finally being back in the 1st liga after being so close for too many years...to help lift spirits to bring home some valuable points.

You don't think Mainz and FCN have that going for them too???

Every promoted club should have that "natural motivation". Doesn't always help.

Like i've said many times...I think i'm more worried about the 2nd season in 1st liga...don't want to pull a karlsruhe :p

You should. They caught lightening in a bottle in that first season. Came back to earth in the second one.

What you want to do is not come back to earth.

but with a few more decent signings like makiadi and du ri cha...I think we'll do it.

You do realize there are reasons those two guys were in the 2nd Bundesliga last season, don't you???

IN FACT I THINK WE'LL WIN THE LEAGUE....(sarcasm)

LMAO!! Pull a "Kaiserslautern", that would be something! LOL!! :D

just a note...thanks keith your making this day at work go by a little faster haha.

- of course mainz and FCN have that motivation too...but i think it might be somewhat different for us because Freiburg has been away from the 1st division the longest of the three...which could go either way...hopefully for the better.

and yes coming back to earth isn't always great...i'm generally a very realistic and pessimistic person...not with football i'm afraid.

so with that being said...c'mon guys lets pull a "kaiserlautern"!
:D
...but even i can say that is most definitely NOT happening haha...
What i'm really hoping for is for Dutt and Duffner to keep improving this team slowly...to STAY in the bundesliga and eventually become a hannover or frankfurt, etc....one of those regular mid-table teams.

unfortunately at the moment i see us more as a bochum or bielefeld (bielefeld during the last few years) but hey i'd be pretty happy to have as many years in 1st that Bielefeld enjoyed over the last few seasons.

about du ri cha and makiadi...

yes i'm aware but still...

du ri cha has 40 appearences for South Korea
and lots of 1st division experience with Bielefeld and Frankfurt...at least more experience than almost all of our players so i'm sure he'll be one of our best this season nonetheless.

Makiadi i do have some hopes for with 33 appearances for Duisburg and 16 goals is something we don't see often in Freiburg.

but overall i'm quite worried about our striker situation that i mentioned earlier.

too many decent guys at a similar level.

You're welcome! I'm at the end of a Wednesday that was my "Monday", so I did a lot of waiting on other people today.

I don't think it matters. If you had a team with multiple players who were there the last time SCF was in the 1st Bundesliga, then, I can see that mattering. However, I don't think you guys have one guy who was there the last time you guys were in the 1. Liga.

Counting Makiadi and Du Ri Cha, how many guys does SCF have with any 1st BUNDESLIGA experience? Four? Maybe five??

I am in no way saying this will stop you guys from hanging in. No way. However, I so think your team has more of a chance of being overwhelmed by the moment than taking any "motivation" from the club not having been in the 1st Bundesliga for so long.

That will be down to the job Dutt does.

and yes coming back to earth isn't always great...i'm generally a very realistic and pessimistic person...not with football i'm afraid.

Nothing wrong with that. Just makes you a fan. I think my reporting work just has me jaded and I take it all too seriously.

so with that being said...c'mon guys lets pull a "kaiserlautern"! :D

That's the ticket! LOL!!

...but even i can say that is most definitely NOT happening haha...

Here, I usually say, "Stranger things have happened", but I don't think I can say that here! LOL!!

Let's just see. I think every season has a surprise or two.

Maybe not the title, but maybe you guys can finish ahead of some "established" clubs.

What i'm really hoping for is for Dutt and Duffner to keep improving this team slowly...to STAY in the bundesliga and eventually become a hannover or frankfurt, etc....one of those regular mid-table teams.

Not unreasonable at all. SCF has done it before under Finke, so who knows?

unfortunately at the moment i see us more as a bochum or bielefeld (bielefeld during the last few years) but hey i'd be pretty happy to have as many years in 1st that Bielefeld enjoyed over the last few seasons.

You never know. With the right breaks, perhaps you guys could be the next Hannover or Frankfurt.

But I wouldn't put that kind of hope in Cedrick Makiadi or Du Ri Cha.

At the 1st Bundesliga level, Makiadi is OK, but Cha sucks donkey dick. :o

about du ri cha and makiadi...

yes i'm aware but still...

du ri cha has 40 appearences for South Korea

And Young Pyo Lee has over 100, but he still rides our bench. By that logic, I guess I would think Landon Donovan could star for Bayern.

and lots of 1st division experience with Bielefeld and Frankfurt...at least more experience than almost all of our players so i'm sure he'll be one of our best this season nonetheless.

Delron Buckley had lots of 1st Division experience with Bielefeld and Bochum and all the international caps you can handle. But in three years, he scored one goal for us. ONE.

If you are counting on Du Ri Cha to be one of your "best" this season, I think you guys are going straight back down.

I think some of your other players will step up.

Makiadi i do have some hopes for with 33 appearances for Duisburg and 16 goals is something we don't see often in Freiburg.

Dude, again you're pinning your hopes on the wrong guys. They will help, sure, but I think you're expecting a bit much out of these guys.

Again, there are reasons they didn't make it before.

If there aren't injury problems, perhaps Makiadi will make a good team with Idrissou, but they won't scare anyone good.

I think you guys should make a play for Nemanja Vucicevic, who was just told by 1. FC Köln his contract won't be extended. He's available on a free transfer.

And if 'Kicker' is right, you guys are on the verge of signing Croatian U-21 attacking winger Mensur Mujdza for 500,000 Euros.

If you get Mujdza, Cha will almost definitely just play right back and that will be better for you guys IMO.

Click here (http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/bundesliga/startseite/artikel/510281/) for the Kicker story in German.

but overall i'm quite worried about our striker situation that i mentioned earlier.

I agree. I think you guys could use one more striker with some BL experience.

Toprak won't be easy to replace either. :(

Our main players should be Schuster, Pouplin, Butscher, and Abdesaddki.
We just signed Mensur Mujdza, 25-year-old Bosnian Right-Back, I think he will take Schwaab's position. He's actually pretty good.

I look at it this way. If we get lucky, we stay in the Bundesliga.
Then it will take a lot of improvements for 2010 to stay once again.
Once we are in the Bundesliga for 2-3 years, we have a better chance of acquiring decent players and staying in the elite level will be easier. The first 2 years will be the hardest.

But hey, that's what makes this so fun.

According to Kicker magazine, SCF has Kaka's brother "Digao" on trial.

He's a 23-year old central defender.

He also holds an Italian passport, so he would not count as a non-UEFA player.
