and yet they still can't get a decent double act to commentate on the matches...

I thought they just had a weekly show and the odd game every now and then.

in scotland. here in the us they show it on setanta, but not on normal house tv's. if you want to see live spl games you have to go to some OF hang out to watch it.

The more important part of this announcement is that they are going to double the amount that the SPL is going to get for TV rights. I think this additional money will be helpful for not only the Old Firm but all of the clubs.

Here's another article that talks about this deal.

Yeah and within hours of the announcement the usual suspects in SFL1 started bumping their gums about SPL2 and expanding the league. Something which Partick, Dundee, Livi, Dunfermline and St. Johnstone were all too quiet about back when they were in the top flight.

:D

This is great - however, I'm not sure if those of us in America are going to see that much of an increase. I would love it though - the more Scottish football I can watch (with or without Celtic) the better! :D

Where did you find that they are going to show games on the normal Setanta channel in the US? Nothing I read said anything about America.

Does anyone know how much the Sky deal was worth?

now if Comcast Cable would finally appease me and carry this channel, all would be great with the world. i'd rather spend $15 a month to watch celtic, than $20-25 for one game.

Unfortunately you will still be out of luck if Comcast gets Setanta (or if you start subscribing to satellite TV). The American version of Setanta never shows any live Celtic/Rangers games - those are only at bars for, like you said, about $20 a game. The only SPL games that are ever broadcast live on Setanta's American channel would be if neither Celtic or Rangers was playing in the 6 a.m. PT Sunday game or something like that (then again, there's usually an EPL game starting on Setanta at 5:30 a.m.). I think there might have been about two live SPL games a year on the channel. However, I believe that the majority of Celtic (and Rangers) games are broadcast a couple days after they are played.

If you want to watch on your computer, you can subscribe to Channel 67 off of Celtic's website for about $25-$26. I know, it's not TV, but it is a lot cheaper than $20-$25 per game. They have every game live (including nearly every friendly) with the exception of Champions League games, which can be viewed "as live" and on demand through the website from around 10-12 Scottish time (5-7 p.m. ET).

The SPL is the main league for Setanta in Australia as they don't have the EPL rights as they belong to Fox Sports which do a bloody good job and show around 9 games live per round not that you can watch 5 games at once but at least you have the option to choose what game you see live.

Setanta usually have a good pre and post game show for the SPL matches shown in the UK but it annoys me that if the match is shown live here and not in the UK they can not even be bothered showing putting the scores or the time up on the screen

Timewarer too :(. I guess I will just have to stick to channel 67 till than. But I could be watching games on a 42 HD tv rather than a 19 inch monitor :D
