Hertha got a good victory 4-0 today against KSC. Totally undeserved result though as KSC could have easily tied the game on 3 occasions! But then the subs Raffael and Domovchiyski and Lustenberger came on and all 3 scored and we head into the winter break 3rd!!

Great day for me!! :D

I don't remember the last game where a manager made three substitutions and had all three players score in the match. Unbelievable.

Hertha is on the verge of signing another freakin' Brazilian!

Kicker says Hertha is on the verge of signing 26 year-old Fluminense left back Junior Cesar.

According to Kicker and other news outlets, this deal has been called off.

Some good news *I guess* after the 4:0 at Olympiakos.

Arne Friedrich has agreed to extend his contract until 2011, 2012 if he is able to play in 25 games in 2011.

Ahlen youngstars Marco Reus and Kevin Grosskreutz are being looked after by Hertha. I've heard a lot of good things about Grosskreutz in particular, but I think he could be heading to Dortmund as well. Anyone know anything about these players?

Both players are Dortmunder Jungs. Or for those who don't do Deutsch, "Dortmund Boys."

Both played for BVB's U19 before moving to Ahlen on free transfers.

Reus is 19 years old, nice potential. I've heard nothing on BVB being interested in bringing him back, but since we seem to be about to lose out on Timo Gebhart, I think BVB could look Reus' way. However, I don't think it would be during or even after this season unless Reus just bursts out in a big way.

Reus has two goals and two assists in 13 appearances for RWA so far this season.

I wouldn't rush him. He has another year on his contract with RWA and staying there another season would do him a world of good.

Kevin Grosskreutz is the younger cousin of BVB II defender Marcel Grosskreutz. Kevin is 20, Marcel 23.

Kevin's RWA contract currently expires at the end of the current season, however, I believe if Kevin is smart, he'll stay there another season or two. Any move to Hertha or back to BVB would probably mean either lots of time on a Bundesliga bench or lots of time with the reserve side.

Kevin has two goals and four assists in 17 appearances with RWA so far this season.

As you saw, I think more time in the 2nd Bundesliga would do both players much good. In my opinion, they just aren't ready to compete for spots on a top third Bundesliga roster just yet.

Although, were both players to try it, I do think they would have a better shot back in Dortmund than with you guys.

In Dortmund, there are not as many players blocking their way.......

According to reports in Romania, Hertha are about to sign 21 year old Romanian talent Alexandru Paul Curtean, who the media compares to a young Zidane...

Fee is about 1.500.000 euros according to these reports.

Hertha have escaped the icy conditions in Berlin and are now training in Marbella in Spain.

It seems as though they are testing another player (like Arguez and Fejsa last year), and its another Serb too, Darko (not Danko of PSV) Lazovic, the 18 year old midfielder from Borak Cacak.

Hertha are also interested in signing Raffael's brother, Ronny, who plays LB for Sporting Lisbon on a loan contract w/ an option to buy at the end of the season. Reports say that all 3 sides look to win from this option.

Voronin injured his shin.

Scott Chipperfield failed his medical and will not be coming to Hertha.

For the LB spot, Hoeness has said he has "5 other players he is looking at." The newest name seems to be former Leverkusen LB Marko Babic. Other names include Metalist LB Seweryn Gancarczyk, Ludovic Magnin of Stuttgart, Ronny of Sporting Club de Portugal, Reto Ziegler and Dusko Tosic.

Hertha have signed Marko Babic on a free transfer. Good value IMHO, lets see if he has anything left. He's 28 so I think he can work out even as a squad member.

However, Fabian Lustenberger is out til March :(

he is a solid player who just lost his confidence..he is still young enough so hopefully he can regain his confidence and show some of the form he had in his early days at bayer..

Totally agree. I think this is a good signing for Hertha.

Ironically, Babic made his Bundesliga debut for Leverkusen in the 2000-2001 season in a 4-0 thrashing of Hertha on 10 December 2000 in Leverkusen. :D

Babic also played for Leverkusen in the final minutes of 2002 Champions League Final in Glasgow.

Babic came on at the 90 minute mark to give Leverkusen some more height on the field as they pressed Real Madrid for a tying goal during stoppage time. Real held on to win 2-1 with Zinedine Zidane's nearly legendary volley blast being the winning goal for Real.

I was at that match with my friend Willie. From the other end of the pitch, Zidane's volley sounded like a gun-blast.

Back to Babic. Babic did not become a Bundesliga regular for Leverkusen until the 2002-2003 season.

In 144 Bundesliga appearances for Leverkusen, Babic had 13 goals, 21 assists and two red cards.

In 12 appearances for Real Betis in La Liga, Babic had zero goals and zero assists. He did have three yellow cards.

Babic also has 3 goals in 49 appearances for Croatia in international football.

Leandro Cufre is joining Hertha according to kicker. The all-round defender who can play all 3 positions joins for 500.000 euros. The 30 year old Argentine who last played for AS Monaco has a contract until the end of the season.

To be honest I'd rather have a center midfielder. This probably means that Babic has to play CM  . It'll be interesting to see how Favre accomodates all these players or if he's going to get rid of someone in the midfield. However, with Lustenberger, Kacar, Pisczcek, Chahed and Dardai still hurt, I expect to see this lineup for Frankfurt. Kacar might be fit for the game...

------------------------Drobny (fit again)---------------------
A. Friedrich-------von Bergen/Kaka------Simunic------M. Stein
Ebert------------Cicero-----------Kacar/Babic--------M. Nicu
---------------------Raffael
------------------------------Pantelic/Voronin, but knowing Favre, it'll be Voronin

Cufre will probably start on the bench, but once he gets in the flow of things next week, then he will replace von Bergen/Kaka at RB, and switch Friedrich to CB.

His contract was expiring and Monaco decided to cash in. really small fee though I got to say 500.000 euros really isn't much for a RB who's started for Monaco the whole time and even has 3 goals!

Well we know why he left Monaco now...he had a forged Italian passport and Monaco had too many non-EU players...

Lucky for us thats why he was cheap.

Already I like Babic too...he turned down 5 million euros and sitting on the bench for the next 2.5 years for 350.000 euros for a half year and playing more regularly.

well one of the main reason babic did that was because he wants to get back into the national team..he knows by sitting on the bench at betis he has no chance to get back into the national team..if he had to take a pay cut to do do so be it..

It gets better! Cufre came on a free because Monaco absolutely had to get rid. Brilliant! :)
