All, there are rumors circulating that Hertha may be making initial plans for a new stadium.

Hertha's current Olympiastadion lease runs through the 2017 season. It is believed that if Hertha really does want to pursue building their own "football-only" stadium, they will try to get out of that lease early.

Hertha has not confirmed any stadium plans.

Right now, this all seems to be in the speculation/research phase.

just returned from a europe trip during which i was lucky enough to attend the hertha berlin/wolfsburg game. (also saw psg/nantes in paris) had a great time at the olympiastadium, even with the tough goal allowed at the end. the penalty miss was truly awful. just wanted to post and let you know that hertha berlin has a new fan here in socal. look for the dude wearing the home jersey around the westside of l.a. and the palm springs area!

I wouldn't mind a Parc de Princes myself, but who would finance this stadium?

Glad you had a good time "Desertroma," please post often.

Who owns Olympiastadion? The City? Are Hertha's lease terms so bad that they would need a new stadium? Olympiastadion seems like a beautiful fit, 80 odd thousand capacity ensures lots of tickets sold for Bayern, Schalke and other elite matches. Not to mention the history of the building adds a significant charm that money can't replace.

Well they were looking at the game against St. Pats where there were 60,000+ empty seats as bad for atmosphere.

The city I think does own the stadium.

I think best solution: minor games like this have the game in the new stadium, Bayern+Schalke+other major games will be at Oly. Maybe Hertha and Berlin can thrash out a solution.

I am more concerned about our next game at Gladbach though ;)

What "charm" is that? I've been to matches there too. Historical significance, it has, "charm?" I didn't feel any.

It wasn't just that match that has them looking.

The stadium is run by a separate company. It is its own entity.

There comes a time when enough is enough too. Bayern showed that by building the Allianz Arena.

Why shouldn't Berlin have a stadium just as modern and nice??

The club wouldn't be the only ones to benefit, it would be better for the fans too.

I really didn't like having to go outside to a trailer to take a piss so much.....

There's no need to use Olympiastadion for major matches. The new stadium should hold between 50,000 and 60,000 if they are smart.

Olympiastadion won't go to shit without Hertha. It just won't be used as much, that's all.

I shared a flat with an architecture student for two years who couldn't stop raving about the new Olympiastadion. I partly caught that virus.

It's a great stadium no doubt. There have been times though where Hertha have sold out the Olympic Stadium, but a 55,000 stadium would be perfect for a club our size.

Can't say I share that "great stadium" opinion. I think it is among the top five in Germany, but it would be fifth.

However, I think it is more "unique" thanks to its historical significance.

Other than that, all I see is another done over old stadium.

There were many "traditionalists" who opposed Bayern and 1860 building the Allianz Arena.

They spoke of the "charm" and historical significance of the Olympiastadion and how nothing could replace that.

Nobody is saying a word now. They're all in love with the Allianz Arena.

I've been there several times now, and I just love it. I just hate the running track.

If this stadium is close the field and has all the amenities that the Olympic Stadium has (except, of course the intangibles such as historical significance), then I'm all for it. I just don't want something like the Kirkby stadium that Everton might be getting

Olympiastadion may sacrifice some of the amenities, but I haven't found a place I enjoy visiting more.

Your coach is stupid. Kacar scores the goal and he subs him off! He still has not played full 90 minutes for Hertha. And, i do not understand Hertha fans. Gojko played bad against anonymous team and they are " unhappy" with him, after just one match!

Don't care, we got the 3 points and thats all that matters :D

Well pleased with the result, nice finish by Kacar.

If Hertha wants a new stadium they should build it on their own.
Berlin and the German state invested 2 years ago 250 million €
into the Olympiastadion. Yes, we taxpayers paid your stadium,
so if you want a new one don´t complain about your current one,
but build a new one on your own.

About the team:
Very good season start for Hertha. Congrats. :)

Man, Simunic must be on drugs or something, because he's playing like seriously wicked awesome lol! Absolute rock in the back. Its interesting because this year his defensive partner is Kaka, and he's been very shaky. Stein is alright and Friedrich is steady as usual, but somethings happened to Simunic.

Then again, once I sing his praises, he makes another boneheaded mistake next time, so

Voronin seems to be a decent signing. He doesn't seem to be much of a goalthreat, but he's not being used as a striker, he's playing on the right or left side of a 4-2-3-1. He works hard, pretty decent defensively as well. Keep it up Andrej :) Nicu was also pretty good too, astute signing for 350.000 euros IIRC.

Voronin is a Dirk Kuyt type player. He lacks the finesse and touch of a goal scorer, but he makes up for it by barging around the field and knocking the ball loose.

Yea I just thought about that myself. Definitely not Liverpool class, for sure, but he can do a job for us. He definitely is a dynamic player who wants the ball and will fight for the team, and we don't really HAVE to have him score, Kacar, Cicero, Raffael and Ebert provide enough goalscoring options in our midfield (first time since Marcelinho and Basturk can we actually say that). And, of course, we still have Pantelic, who can destroy teams himself if he is on form.

I think Voronin will do much more for a club like Hertha than Liverpool anyway. He's not a top class player, but he usually gives 100% effort every game, Ukraine's last qualifiers not withstanding. He is a strong physical player and the Bundesliga is better suited for him. As you say, Hertha doesn't need him to score goals, which is a good thing, hopefully he can make a place for himself on the wing, much the same way Kuyt has a place in Liverpool even though sometimes he makes you wonder why.
