I'm too lazy to dig around on other threads to see what you've posted on this (which I'm sure you have).
Wanted your opinion - it seems kinda strange to me to can Medford now; with a fairly week semi-final group, why not wait until the hex?
Any thoughts of Guimares coming back? I think he's available now, isn't he? I think he is a fairly capable coach and the Ticos got downright scary under him near the end of the last hex. Plus, he was in charge when CR made the Germans sweat for at least part of that game at WC 2006...

Everybody knew Medford was getting kicked out after the 2-2 at Granada, it was an open secret, they could have beaten Granada 30-0 and he would have been fired as well.
He had all the local press against him, the fed against him, but he did have 50% of the fans support, medford is loved by most of the saprissa fans, most of the people on the stadium (including myself) cheered his name, before and after the game, but it wasn't enough, it was not gonna change Eduardo LiŽs decision
HE got fired last Friday and Rodrigo Kenton is ready to take his place
IMHO Medford should have stayed for the groupstage at least, I am pretty sure he would have taken us to southafrica, I really don't like Kenton as a coach, i don't remember seeing him winning a local championship or doing something important on the past, he did take the Olympic team to the second round on Athens 2004 and almost qualify Guatemala to this Olympics, besides that he has been only an assistant
I am pretty sure we will qualify to the Hex, with our without Kenton, because we got a weak group
As i said on another thread, I will start supporting Kenton after i see him winning 9 of the first 9 points on the group stage, otherwise ,IŽll keep thinking he is a loser and a pus sy too
I remember that game vs Argentina on the 2004 Olympics, we lost 4-0, CR didn't attack in the whole game, it was a shame, and that was the best U23 we have ever had, he was too afraid of Argentina, for me he doesnt have the balls to coach the CRNT

I disagree MEDFORD is a drunk, party animal, does not have the correct approach with the press and is unexperienced. He is married to old guys who played with him and does not give chances to the new guys. Does not take feedback and always think he is right even when la sele under his guidance break a record by going 12 games without winning(we werent playing powerhouses or anything), 44 % efficiency and with the slowest and poorest game or performance for a CR national team in ages.
I am not saying Kenton is the best guy out there but basically any guy who will adjust and make changes when needed and not keep on playing the same 35 year olds that dont get results internationally is a better option for CR.
In regards to the Argentina game , Medfork bunkers when going to Grenada or Nicaragua so ....

...a few months ago you wished that medford was our coach, I heard it from your mouth, he didn't get good results on the friendlies, that's true, the numbers speak for themselves, but he was building a process, he had to test players, he gave chances on the CRNT to more than 60 players, no other coach has done that before
you are not saying that Kenton is the best guy there, so who is it? who is affordable for us, and better than medford at the same time? Kenton? I disagree, i don't see any other local coach with the balls to take us to South Africa 2010
And we didn't bunker on Granada, that's a lie, we started losing 2-0 in the first 15 minutes, we played offensively the other 75 minutes looking for the equalizers until we finally got them
check your facts pauly, your nice words are useless without a solid base

In regards to the Argentina game , Medfork bunkers when going to Grenada or Nicaragua so ....I agree with most of the first part. Medford always had a way of pissing off the press and was obsessed with his pet Saprissa players(though I'll admit he did achieve alot with them at Saprissa) but Guimaraes did the exact same shit by taking only his buddies to the WC, I really can't see Kenton being much better. We need a big name international coach(something unfortunately we can't afford.)

I think Kenton will end up being the better choice for the CRMNT. It seems to me that los ticos always start qualifiers with slow and tight results, but in the end the team and the players "se acoplan" to end up winning a spot for the world cup. The same thing happened the previous two qualifiers 2002, 2006, CR started with some embarrasing results, but then showed their true colors in the Hexagonal.

Medford does not had a process. It is not really testing players when you called them to play in IRAN(35HR trip) and you dont play them!!
On Granada we started payaing well until the second period when one of the gr players red carded himself...
You will see that given the fact that he moves around his cards and we don t have the same guys since 1998 , we will be ok..

It was the right decision. Medford was getting us no where. He made no improvements in the 18 months he was in charge. He would always get angry when he was criticized and always started beef with the press. He wasn't in favor of giving the younger players a solid process and also blamed them for not qualifying to the U-23 Final Round.
Kenton is a much more prepared, experienced, and smarter coach in my opinion. He has been to 3 World Cups as an assistant (1990 and 2002 with Costa Rica, 1998 with Nigeria) where the teams played solid football. He also qualified Costa Rica to the Olympics in 2004 where they made it to the 2nd round after beating Portugal 4-2.
Our chances of qualifying to the World Cup are much higher now than they were a month ago when Medford was in charge.

Do u remember the last game vs argentina? when we lost 4-0, how can u be proud of that team, It was cool to see cristiano ronaldo face when we won, but we lost on the second round in a horrible game (once again) we played to lose and lost, Kenton is not agressive, same old attitute
Medford does think as a winner

If Medford was a winner...we would've beaten teams like Honduras, Canada, Jamaica, Haiti, El Salvador, Iran, Sweden's B or C team, Panama,ect...Lets not forget the embarassing display from the last Gold Cup. There's a huge difference between coaching a club and a national team. Yes Medford had a successful run with Saprissa...but lets not forget that our league is not that competitive, and the World Cup of Clubs was a really good accomplishment...but Saprissa beat mediocre teams like Sydney FC and Al Itahid...when they played Liverpool the team bunkered and did not look so good.
Lets remember that Argentina totally owned the 2004 Olympics and the only reason we lost 4-0 was because Kenton took out a defender for a foward when we were down 0-2. Teams like Serbia and Italy were also blown out 6-0 and 3-0. We were also in a tough group playing against the champs Argentina, the Bronze winner Iraq, and a tough Morocco team.

we lost 4-0 because kenton just tried to bunker, he was happy with advancing to the second round, he was happy for almost qualifying guatemala to the Olympics, he hasn't won a single championship, or tournament or nothing... as a coach, he is a good assistant

Ouch MOrado..... Vamos ticos has very good points and I happen to agree with them.I dont want to take nothing away from Medford's years in Saprissa but Jeaustin Campos is doing a good job also. What is next Jeustin Campos to la Sele??

Kenton hasn't received a good chance to coach a club in Costa Rica. I remember him coaching Alajuelense as an interim coach and doing a good job. He also started an important process with the youth players from Guatemala (i'm sure most of the Chapines will agree with me.) He has the experience to finally receive a chance to coach a real team like our "Sele".
I like Medford. He is one of my favorite players of all time. He did a great job as a coach with Saprissa. But he still needs a lot of experience to coach our "Sele". I think if Medford, Wanchope, Wright prepare themselves in Europe and coach clubs and youth national teams for the next 10 years...they can be important coaches in the future.
Medford was given a lot of chances. He didn't take advantage of those chances and thats why he has been replaced. I really hope he can prepare himself in Europe then come back and coach a club instead of taking that job Herediano are offering him.
