Why wait till next week?! We can keep the first poll running simultaneously. Anyway, on the first thread people are throwing out lots of great nominations. I'll try to get all the requests involved in the initial 8 semi-final rounds. So that will be 64 goals, with 8 winners. Then we'll have a final poll of the cream of the crop. Anyway, here's the next 8:
Gascoigne v Scotland
Scroll ALL the way down the page to the Gascoigne goal clip for Euro 96--use this link to see the Atkinson and Varela clips from below. None of the direct links to the clips are working for some reason, so just keep this one open.

Di Canio scissor volley

Van Basten full bicycle

Le Tissier amazing run

The original host has exceeded bandwidth, so this is a backup. You just have to open the Zip file and then play the movie file.
Henry turn and volley

Sanchez full bicycle

Atkinson mazy run

Scroll down to just above the Gascoigne clip.
Varela runs through all of Barca

Scroll ALL the way down again, just above the Atkinson clip.

I had to go with Di Canio. I've actually hit decent overhead bikes before, and seen then done often. Not to mention, there's no way of deciding between Van Basten and Sanchez, IMO. Henry's flick and volley is pretty incredible, but Di Canio's still just mesmerizes me. A flying scissor kick volley--like something out of Shaolin Soccer.

I assume this is going to be a four part poll, with four semifinalists. If so, please don't put Rivaldo's goal against Valencia on the same poll as Van Basten's sharp angle volley against USSR in Euro88. I don't want to have to choose between those two until the very end.

Does anyone else have trouble playing the avi files. I have the latest versions of Real Player and Windows media player but the avi's don't play, seeks to be a codec problem, anyone know how to fix it.

Try DivX. I think this is a relatively new streaming vid software, and I've been very impressed with the quality of some of these images that use it. Anyway, you can get it free here:

Well...I'll offer this for "Best Goals III," as well as a nominee for best goal of 2003: Steve Kabba's strike against Forest. It also has one of the best calls, so turn your speakers on as well.

He can't believe it went in because it was a fluke accident. It was a cross that ended up in the goal. Nobody in their right mind would shoot from there on purpose with teamates making runs at goal, it was a fluke. If the goal was on purpose wouldn't he celebrate like no other?

I recall reading that in post-game interviews he admitted it being a cross.

Maybe it was a cross (got a link to the interview?), but to get that spin he had to strike the ball with the outside of his left foot, which you wouldn't normally do for a cross.

Lilian Nalis' strike for Leicester against Leeds last night belongs in the next pool- absolutely spectacular. Early contender for EPL goal of the year. So far I can only find a clip on the LC club site available to premium members- if I find something more public I'll post.
Btw- anyone know of a "best goals by a US player" thread? Does this exist, if not I might start one.

It does exist. Search for it sometime, it had some good nominations.
