Sambucci was the major player against redevelopment. He's folded his cards! NYC2MLS here we come!!!!!!

This has been an exciting week! We are headed to were we want and need to go, a team within the 5 Boros.

he was only a small percentage of the total holdouts right?
it's a victory...but only a small one at this point.

The holdouts are not the biggest issue, there is no stadium in the willets point plan, that's the problem.

Hey maybe the car theft rate will lower in Queens now , that they're shutting down these places. Win-Win :D

now that IS something we can help out with.
We need to force the issue on that.

Small? NO WAY Brandon. This is THE major player in the holdout. Sambucci along with Fodera Foods were the major players, everyone else was just playing along. Fodera has another place and now that Sambucci sold out, the fight is basically OVER. Tully Construction will get a major boost from the city and will be ok. Everyone else is two bit.

This is the final knock out punch. Watch how quickly the stadium rendering will start to surface now.

Can we move this OUT of the Borough Boys sub forum? I originally intended this to be in the NYC expansion forum but I think that I made a mistake when I posted. Bryan, Dillon or Sport Billy, could you guys help me out with this?

Comos - I love your positivity - honestly!! HA HA

I just dont think this is a major victory for NYCFC - I think its a major victory for the City that want to redevelop this area so bad. Like Metrogo said - we need to have a Stadium in that plan, which right now it does not, just a convention center!

We have to wait to see what comes from the meeting between the Commish and the City!

Nick I'm literally seconds away from these people and these places every day. This is all we talk about day in and out. THIS IS A MAJOR PLAYER THAT JUST CAVED IN. Basically the whole movement is dead now that he's out of the picture.

The city will walk in any day now. SSS here we come.

Right. And the good thing about the convention center is that a soccer stadium wouldn't necessarily be bigger, it wouldn't necessarily attract more cars, and would be more of a local community benefit than a convention center. I think the convention center plan is almost a boon, because a stadium will seem the better option.

Left to their own devices, the city walks in with a convention center. changing that to an SSS is our holy grail.

I know there was a rendering somewhere that included a Convention Center and a SSS. Didnt I post it somewhere here on Big Soccer. Anyhow, you know its going to be sort of packaged in there. It's not going to be showcased (the SSS) as the main piece because then it might be politically inconvenient but talk about convention center with an SSS as a side dish and then its completely DOABLE!

Please try and find that rendering because I don't think I ever saw it. I hope you are right about this, but there sin't even a slight mention of the possibility of a SSS in the article.

This is the rendering. The stadium seems to be adjacent to the supposed convention center.

I just want to say one thing. Cosmos may be right for all we know, but neither I nor any member of the Borough Boys (other than cosmos) as far as I know have ever gotten an official or unofficial word from any responsible source that the SSS is or was a part of the willets point plan.

And from what I know, there is no such plan to date. That doesn't mean there is not such a plan just that if there is I don't know about it, and I have spoken to the City, the local councilman, lobbyists, community organizers, and one potential investor (not me, another borough boy). So I have my doubts but I sure hope cosmos is right.

Here's a story in yesterday's daily news

http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/queens/2008/06/26/2008-06-26_unions_love_willets_point_land_grab-1.html?page=0

If you're to lazy to link to the site, here's the most relevant part.

Bloomberg, meanwhile, says he simply wants to transform the 61-acre maze of dirt streets, junkyards and industrial businesses - an area the city has virtually abandoned for decades - into a $3 billion wonderland of retail shops, movie theaters, office buildings, a hotel, a convention center, 6,000 units of largely market-rate housing and even a public school.

Yes Metro is right, there is NO official word about any SSS plans. These are the things that I surmise from events happening around the neighborhood. I'm in the Corona/Flushing 'hood everyday and the events that have occured over the past few weeks lead me to believe these things. They are too numerous to list but if you want you can either PM me or just attend any of the Borough Boys events that we have, meet me and I'll be more than willing to spend my time discussing the in and outs of Willets Point redevelopment.
