View Full Version : Soccer goggles/eye protection?

I was wondering if anyone has found a pair of glasses/goggles for eye protection when playing soccer. I used to have a pair back in the day but they were pretty big and made heading difficult.
If so, do you have a link that you purchased them from?
Curious to see others thoughts on what to wear to protect the eyes during soccer games.

I'd say you can still do good with a pair of Rec Specs. Just be mindful that they can fog up and you can lose some periphial vision due to how they are contstructed.

I could also use some advice if anyone has any...
My daughter is 11 and needs to wear protective goggle when playing soccer because she is blind in one eye but has perfect vision in the other.
I realize that the chances of permanant eye injury is remote however, not a risk we want to take for obvious reasons.
Now that she is playing on a Club team, she is complaining that she is having trouble heading the ball with the current pair she has because they sit a bit away from the eye and she claims it hurts quite a bit to have the specs smash her nose and face when the ball hits...although she might not realize that heading an oncoming ball is not exactly a painless experience.
I have been asking many questions from various Rec Specs dealers and they really have no particular model suggesting that most of them are suitable for soccer so I thought I would reach and see if anyone else has experienced this and has any good recommendations.
Thanks.

What does Edgar Davids wear? He seems to be the only notable player that wears goggles.
I am also thinking about getting goggles because I have astigmatism and I hate my contact lens. I always feel and see better when I wear my glasses.

Those are Nikes. I have the same problem as you (and many others). Rec Specs suck and I don't want to use my regular glasses in competitive games. I have yet to find a national vendor who makes such a thing and got many weird looks from a bunch of eye doctors when I asked.
I bought some Nikes (Haul I believe they were called...or Roll...one of the two) from a Sunglass Hut and drove all over the city to find a place to custom make lenses for them. I only found one place who would touch them and it ended up costing me about $300 but it was soooo worth it. I can safely head and it takes a pretty good jolt to unsettle them. Since they are a wrap around type of glasses, I also don't lose the peripheral vision. I would recommend putting a light strap on the back for a bit of security but I'm too picky and don't like the feel.
The place I got the lenses made also had an Adidas sport model out that looked like an updated Rec Spec type of thing. I don't remember what it was called but it was bright orange (think MaxSight contact lens orange). Not sure if they still make those or not. Good luck.

Meh, knew it was Nike of some sort. Too many weird names to remember. Hope this helps people though.
And contacts only work if you can wear them. Not everyone is so lucky. :(
