Although, he didn't win any Int'l or European trphies, Luca Toni deserves a mention.
Also, is this ranking based solely on the 07/08 season?

Im basing this on the 07/08 season and Euro 2008.
I also believe that Rio Ferdinand deserves a mention. He was the best CB in the EPL this season.

It is very hard for defenders and defensive midfielders to get recognised or rewarded by many of these awards but given that he won two major competitions he is the most likely defender to be recognised.

Christiano Ronaldo, Torres, Luca Toni - all disappointed at Euro 2008. As did Ballack. Why people would include Torres ahead of VIlla in their top 10 is just weird. And Ballack ahead of Sneijder is also weird. I'm guessing you people are premiership only watchers?
Van der Sar definitely needs to be included. Great season for both club and country, saved the penalty to win the CL for ManU, was brilliant at Euro 2008.
Another player that needs to be included is Arsjavin. Brilliant for Zenit and brilliant for Russia.

While I'd agree that Villa, Sneijder and Arsjavin deserve mention, I feel that Torres and Toni made strong enough contributions to their respective clubs that they deserve mention. Also, to say that Christiano Ronaldo "disappointed" at Euro 2008 is not exactly true. Ronaldo would have been included in the all-tournament team had Portugal gone further, according to UEFA technical committee chair Andy Roxburgh. Besides, his club form was quite amazing.

Van der Sar and Sneijder also went out in the quarter finals, they still made it to the all-tournament team.

Fortunately, "FIFA World Player of the Year" is not based solely on one tournament! :)

You are talking about tournament only right? Villa had a better tournament but Torres has clearly had a better season.

Torres was the most dominant 1st year EPL player in EPL history. Plus his game winning goal to win the Euro Final cemented his place in the Top 3 ranking in my opinion.
While Villa was great in the tournament he wasn't for Valencia. Valencia were one of the biggest disappointments in La Liga.

Valencia was disappointing, not Villa. 22 goals in 40 games.
