I just received a letter from my state youth soccer association discussing insurance. It stated, and I'm paraphrasing here, that my insurance would not cover games not under thier auspices. They listed Super-Y and US Club as not being affiliated with them. But they associated with USSF. So if I want the insurance coverage offered by the ISYA, I won't be covered if I do USSF affiliated matches?

This seems to go with the thread below regarding counting Super-Y games for upgrade, etc. The ISYA can well say that Super-Y and US Club games are not covered by their insurance (I would assume the same is true for adult amateur as well since they are not under the ISYA as well, right?) But you are covered by the USSF policy that comes as part of your USSF registration. Take a look at the policy information you should get each year from Chicago House. Since Super-Y and US Club games are USSF-sanctioned games then the USSF policy would be in force for you.

Your USSF insurance should cover you in Super Y and USClub. They IYSA may be referring to a seperate umbrella policy covering USYSA matches in the state of Illinois. Do you have a seperate policy from the state? Maybe they were getting claims from USClub games and felt the need to claify that the state office is not responsible.

Since similar issues have come up on two threads maybe we need to contact Chicago for guidance.

I sent an email last week to Julie Ilacqua, the Managing Director of Federation Services, asking about my situation quoted in the other thread. Here is her response.

The Super Y League is a member of US Soccer and US Soccer registered referees are authorized and entitled to work any affiliated game to which they may be assigned. [State officials] may not decide "for the referees of his/her state" who is affiliated with US Soccer and who is not. The membership with the Federation is determined by the Board of Directors and the National Council of US Soccer as a whole and may not be changed by any individual. Should you have any additional questions, please feel free to be in touch.

It seems to me that this (the insurance angle) is a little different than my situation. It is my understanding that USSF provides the liability insurance for referees during USSF sanctioned games. The states provide "accident" insurance for the players that cover them should they become injured in a sanctioned game. Clearly, in US Club Soccer and Super Y-League games the players would not be covered by this IYSA insurance. But I'd bet that US Club Soccer has some similar insurance in place for the players.

US Soccer does have their own insurance. I have seen a copy of the notice that they ave posted on their web-site concerning their insurance coverage. I believe that it covers the teams and team officials. Referees have separate insurance coverage from the USSF.
