Not strictly Arsenal related, but it's close enough to home that it's interesting to us.

Good discussion about it on the ManUre forum:
http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=71189

I think it's cute how the ManUre fans are suddenly whining about all the money that Chelsea have, yet when Arsenal fans have brought up the disparity in the past we've been called crybabies. Shoe, other foot.

I also like how the Chelsea fans are acting like they've already won something when, in fact, all they've done is just come off a home draw against Blackburn.

Yeah, Dan, I'm reminded of a saying involving a pot and a kettle.

My favorite line in the discussion on the ManUre boards was when ClanBlue claimed that Arsenal will fall by the wayside due to Ashburton Grove and the title chase will be a two-horse race between ManUre and Chelski from here on out. He apparently has forgotten that most of Arsenal's starting XI is under contract for at least a couple more years. Not to mention that, while it's still early, the team that spent a mere million or so over the summer is the one on top of the table! It just goes to show that you don't have to spend a lot, as long as you spend smart.

Typical Chelscum attitude. Ask them what the 1st Division trophy looked like in 1954 since that's the last time they've seen the Championship.

Typical Manure attitude too! Any club that tries to "take" "their" trophies is a heretic.

Bunch of bloody lunatics, all of them.

Anyway, selected comments from the thread. Just so you don't miss it, I bolded the pertinent parts.

P.S. Welcome to the other half.

With his knowledge of our future targets and financial situation, I wonder how this thing will work out? It doesn't look good for us for purely those reasons at this point. We'd lose any bidding war with Chelsea now. They know how far we can possibly stretch, and they have a virtual bottomless pit of cash to spend.
This is just not happening. I can't believe the fortune Chelski fans are having... I don't care whether you think Crespo is trash and Kenyon is an idiot, having an owner who spends, spends, spends for you is exciting.

For the other teams, its pretty nerve-wracking. What's next? Eric Cantona comes out of retirement to start for Chelsea? Georgie finds the cures to his ills are a fat check from Roman and a spot in the starting 11? Jeez...
As long as Abramovitch is at Chelsea, they're ultimately going to have all the advantages.
Finally, if Chelsea do go private - I hate to break it to you lot - but in the medium-term the balance of power will have shifted - Man Utd will be a publicy traded company with all of its deals being held to scrutiny even if it increases its cash generating capabilities - while Abramovich can make moves with impunity with his treasure chest

Funny stuff from the "mancs." I wonder how we would feel if David Dein, or *gasp* Arsene Wenger, were recruited by Chelski. I would be both whining and crying.

One of them, who usually comes up with better stuff than this, actually wants Steve "One Point in Four Games" McClaren. They also don't want SGE, even though he's done nothing except get results with a very mediocre national team.

And to think that we taunt the Sperzzzzzzz fans with the chant of "42 years, 42 years". The next game against Chelski, I'll start one up of "49 years"!!!

you're right. I misquoted you. my bad.

reading your "bolded" quotes from the discussion on the Man Utd board I'm still thinking it's not quite whining, but there you go.

enjoy.

I can't help but chuckle (OK, cackle with glee) that yet another ManUre man has sold out, only this time it's not good for the club. [Reel Big Fish]Chelsea FC's gonna give me lots of money and everything's gonna be.. alright (insert trumpets here) [/Reel Big Fish]. Remember how they laughed at all the indignant Irish fans after they got mad about Keane-o's "health concerns's?" I like hanging out in the Merchandise Utd boards, oftentimes to see the hypocrisy they exhibit so well, but Motterman ususally has something intelligent to say. Motter, if you read this, I'd welcome your opinion.

As a Chelsea fan, I'm glad to see that a sound businessman like Peter Kenyon has jumped on board. I've been doing some checking on Abramovich and I've worried myself -- probably needlessly -- with some of the Russian investigations into his finances.

I think its a bit naive in the extreme for Man U. fans to complain that Kenyon isn't loyal to the cause. He is said to have received a significant pay increase on his 700,000 Pound salary and he isn't going to need to worry about a PLC board. He can focus on making Chelsea the best team possible and not worry about merchandising baby wear.

I guess I'll have to actually go out and buy "Manchester Unlimited" or whatever that business book on Man U. was called.

We all get carried away at times, but I think most Chelsea fans see this year as a transition period. Some players will be willing to fight for a place and some will want to move on. Look at how Petit has quit the French national team. He's obviously thinking about fighting for his team spot.

Look forward to our first meeting of the season in October.

I think its a bit naive in the extreme for Man U. fans to complain that Kenyon isn't loyal to the cause. After all, who wouldn't sell out to Roman? Kenyon is said to have received a significant pay increase on his 700,000 Pound salary and he isn't going to need to worry about a PLC board. Who says that money is the only motivator? He can focus on making sure that Chelsea have the highest-quality and most marketable baby wear.

I guess I'll have to actually go out and buy Manchester Unlimited or whatever that business book on Man U. was called, which is soon to be followed up with Chelsea FC: How I Turned a Crap Club Into a Marketing Powerhouse, All Thanks to Roman Abromovich's Money

We all get carried away at times. What club hasn't gone on a massive spending spree to end a 49 year title drought? I think most Chelsea fans see this year as a transition period. After all, we're not used to winning. Some players, the greedy ones, will be willing to fight for a place and some will want to move on, Because they naively believe that money isn't everything.Look at how Petit has quit the French national team. He's obviously thinking about fighting for his team spot. He's not used to quitting and ducking out on things, right guys?

Look forward to our first loss to Arsenal of the season in October.

Fixed your post, moron.

Yikes. I thought 101er's post was well thought-out, and I'm not sure why it drew the response it did from OPArsenal. An unbridled hatred of Chelsea, perhaps? Certainly the "moron" comment was harsh.

I have to admit, I'm watching the Chelsea scenario with a mixture of dread and fascination. One the one hand, I can't believe all the players they've bought in such a short time. On the other hand, I can't wait for the jealousy and in-fighting to come to the surface. 101er used Petit as an example; is there even a place for him any more? I know he played the other match, but that was before Makalele arrived.

Also have to admit to a bit of jealousy, as well.

This is totally uncalled for. I thought it was a reasonable post by our Chelsea friend. Disagree? Want to make a joke? Fine. But why be insulting?

Either this was way harsh or was sarcasm/joke that none of us seemed to get.

Sorry about the moron part. I was sick that day, and as a matter of fact, I just started feeling better yesterday. Dan, you got it right on the "unbridled hatred of Chelsea" comment. I never have liked them, or Tottenscum or the Mancs. 101er, nothing personal like it seemed, like I said, I wasn't feeling good and I get bitchy when I'm sick.
